How I Became Savannah Solo Part 7

Monday December 19th

I woke up at 6 and Lydia made me breakfast. I ate and then got dressed. I went to school and got there at 7:40 so I went by Garvin's room.

Me: hey I'm here on time
Garvin: good, I'm glad that I don't have to call Hope
Me: me too. Well I will be down as soon as I finish my midterm
Garvin: alright

I left and went up to first hour. I took my test in 45 minutes and then went down to take Garvin's. I finished by the time second hour started so I went to German. Once I finished that test I was free to go so I went to get the boys. I brought them home and Lydia made us lunch the boys ate and then napped. I packed my bags for New York.

Garvin came and picked up the boys at 2:30 and I went to eat with Megan and Caroline. We ate and talked. We headed to the stadium and changed. We stretched, got touches, and our shots before putting on our jerseys. The whistle blew and Barbe kicked off. We fought for possession and it was a physical battle. With 15 minutes left in the half we gave up a free kick on the 25. The ball came in and Therese came out but with everyone around one of Barbe's players knocked her down and the ball got passed in.

Me: what! Come on ref that was a foul on our keeper
Ref: I didn't see anything
Me: she was on the ground
Ref: that's enough

I stopped and we set up for kickoff. I sent it back to Megan and she sent it long for me. I took off and got the ball. Players were on me immediately. I fought my way to the box and then keeper came to slide tackle me. I chipped her and went to jump over her but she grabbed my foot making me fall on her. I got up and celebrated with my teammates.

Ref: 18 come here

I walked over and he showed me a yellow.

Me: Seriously she came out first!
Barron: are you kidding me the keeper grabbed her foot!
Ref: I'm counting the goal now I suggest you both stop unless you want another

We set back up and kicked off. The whistle blew for halftime and we went to the locker room.

Barron: we need another goal, I know they are playing dirty and the ref is not calling even but we need to be smart and not give up. Don't give up any fouls near our 18, we are going out how we came off.

We went back out and kicked off. Possession went back and forth for the first 25 minutes. We had a throw on the 30 and Connor won it. She went up the line and saw the early cross on the ground. I was open on the 20-yard line and the ball came in and I shot on my first touch. It hit the bottom of the cross bar and went in to make it 2-1. I didn't get to watch because I was fouled.

Barron: you're not going to call that! Are you kidding me there was no ball
Ref: that's enough coach
Barron: are you blind!
Ref: Coach I'm warning you.
Me: Barron I'm fine
Barron: you're supposed to protect my players now do your job

Barbe kicked off and sent it back. We pressured and fought for it back. Their right back mistouched and I slid in and stripped her of the ball. She was caught off guard and tripped herself up and fell. The ref blew the whistle immediately.

Me: come on that was all ball
Ref: not what I saw

The ref showed me a yellow followed by a red.

Barron: are you kidding, get some glasses she tripped over herself. That was all ball.
Ref: she's out and if you keep on you will be too.
Me: whatever, Duke come on!

Duke ran over from the bench and followed me off the field. I went to the locker room and took off my cleats. I sat in my locker and 10 minutes later my teammates came in.

Megan: we won! 2-1 baby!

We all celebrated and Barron came in.

Barron: fantastic game ladies. I am proud of everyone, great win to go into break with. Solo once you're changed come see me. Everyone else Merry Christmas and see you on the 27th.

We got a break and then took off and turned in our uniforms. I got all my stuff and went to find Barron.

Me: coach
Barron: I'm not mad at you, both of those were shitty calls. Unfortunately, you cannot play in our next game, you can't even be on the bench
Me: yes sir I know, well my sister's wedding in the 28th and if you want me for those other two games I'll be there but if not I would like to stay in New York.
Barron: stay in New York with your family. We'll hold down the fort and tell Brad he can stay too
Me: thank you coach
Barron: of course. Now get out of here and Merry Christmas
Me: you too and Happy New Year
Barron: you too Solo

Duke and I went home and I showered. Brad came over and we watched a movie before going to bed.
