Claire's P.O.V
I groaned at the loud noise my alarm was making. I hated waking up so early because obviously I'm not a morning person and even if I was, I'm pretty sure my type of morning would be at eleven-thirty.As much as I would love to stay in bed even after I shut off my alarm clock, my mom wouldn't allow me to be late for school.
"Claire, get up!" Mom shouted.
"Ughh," another groan escaped my mouth. Being the lovely daughter I am, I rolled over in my bed and kicked the covers from off of me.I stalked slowly and tiredly to the bathroom to take a shower and prepare myself for this awful day of school I'm about to experience.
Strangely though I felt like I was forgetting something.I looked at the mirror and the horrible reflection that stared back at me almost made me jump out of my skin. My not so gorgeous chestnut hair was all over the place, huge bags from the lack sleep-yes I had to complete this certain 'assignment'. Drool decided that it wanted to pay my eye a visit and a huge zit was on my chin.
Dammit, they've been showing more frequently than ever.
The image was still very scary so I took my long needed shower and brushed my teeth. After my shower, I brushed my hairs into a ponytail and I did my makeup heavily today to hide the mountain that grew on my chin.I wore a pair of jeans and a red t-shirt along with a pair of sandals and made my way downstairs to the dining area where my parents were sitting having breakfast and what seemed like a important-I guess- conversation.
"Good morning," I chirped and sat down beside my mom. I stared down at my plate at the lovely heaven of pancakes sitting before me waiting to be eaten.
"Good Morning Claire," dad had said smiling, he sounded like a robot, almost as if he was forcing it out. I gave him a nod of acknowledgement and proceeded to pour some syrup on my pancakes and I dug into them.
"So,Claire....." Mom began and I turned to look at her.
"Yeah?" I said with my mouth full and she scrunched up her face in disgust.
"How are you going to celebrate your big day?" She asked and I looked at her in confusion."Big day?" I stopped myself from eating and turned to her.
"You forgot?" Dad asked in disbelief, what exactly was I missing?
"I think we should spend this day together as celebration of your birthday," mom said and then it clicked.Today is my birthday.
Today is my birthday!!!
"Today is my birthday!" I found myself yelling with a wide grin stretched across my face. Suddenly the excitement ran through me and I found the urge to dress fancier than I have already for my special day.
"Yes it is sweetheart, but..." Mom said looking away from me.
"But what?" I asked slowly looking between my parents. They just looked away from me."Mom....dad?"
"Let's have fun today sweetheart," mom said with a smile on her lips, letting me know that we will talk about it later. We finished eating breakfast in silence and when we were finished, I rushed upstairs and dressed properly.
I wore a black tight fitting dress that stopped just above my knee that glittered the day away, a pair of solid black stilettos and I took my Michael Kors bag with me.After getting ready, I took a slow walk down the stairs and walked up to my parents that were standing chatting happily- probably reliving the day they were married.
Seeing me approaching them, they turned to me with broad smiles stretched across their faces.
"Ready?" Dad asked and I nodded in confirmation. We went outside and got in the car with dad driving and mom taking shotgun. When dad started the car and drove off, I couldn't help but wonder where we going.
Wonder if we're going out to lunch or probably to meet my future husband.
Pft. Yeah right.
Seventeen years old today-September first. What a wonderful day isn't it?Dad drove far away from the city and out of town. That's strange. Where exactly could we be going.
I love surprises, so I'll wait it out. When the drive was finally over-which felt like forever, I jumped out the car in excitement...but that quickly does away.
We were at what seemed to be the entrance to a forest.
"You know dad, you could've told me to dress for the occasion properly...if you get what I mean," I said stressing the word 'properly'.
He just laughed and got out of the car with mom following behind him. They walked through the forest and I groaned following behind them. When we reached our destination, I was shocked at the beauty of the waterfall and beautiful lake in front of me as the sun glimmered on it.
I turned around and smiled at my parents and saw that they were setting up a picnic. I ran and hugged them both.
"Let's have fun today shall we?" Mom asked and I nodded enthusiastically.*****
The day came to an end quicker than I wanted. I lied on the blanket ready to drift off to sleep, but mom decided to butt in and ruin it for me.
"Let me tell you story," she said. I turned to her curiously and so she began to speak."Your father and I had just gotten married." She began. " We came to this very lake, because it was where we had met," I smiled at the thought of hearing their love story. I may not be a fan of seeing them all lovey dovey, but a good ol' love story would be wonderful to finish up the events of the day.
" We went swimming here a lot, and one day when we came, we had company." That doesn't sound good."It was another couple, they looked like they had been running from some sort of danger, and when the lady turned towards us, she held a beautiful baby girl," Mom smiled, reliving the moment.
"The couple looked at each other, and as though they had made decision without talking, they spoke to us,.....' Please take care of our baby, and on her sixteenth birthday place her here in this lake' "
Mom finished the story with a sad smile and dad pulled her in for a hug.
" We're long overdue, and it's time." Dad said this time.
"What do you mean dad?"
"I mean, that baby was you, and we kept you a year too long," he said standing and pulling me up with him. Mom stood up as well and the two of them engulfed me in a hug, real easing waterfalls of tears." I'm confused." I said stepping back, but what I didn't realize was that I stepped to far back and fell into the lake.
The water tickled my skin and I could faintly hear mom shouting my name. I swam back to the surface, and as soon as the light from the sunset hit me, I felt strange. I felt like something new opened inside me, something unknown, yet..... Peaceful and true?
I was so confused.
Dad pulled me from the water and without wasting any more time, they both spoke."We're sending you away,"
"Why?"
"It's what we were told to do,"
Without waiting for me to respond they hurriedly ran, dragging me with them back to car and all the way back home. Both of them just ignoring my questions. When we got home though, there was a man waiting outside of the front door. And with hesitation, we got out of the car.
When we approached the man, he spoke with a welcoming smile on his face.
"Hello Claire,"
