Cade's P.O.V

I could feel my wolf pacing in the back of my mind. Scratching and growling at me to turn around and get back to Claire. He was anxious. Probably angry. He was clawing at me. It was useless to try and calm him down.

His relented scratching had me on edge. His bitterness was awfully dreadful and his distant growls at the back of my mind vibrated through my entire body. His anger became my anger and his anguish became my anguish.

"Mate," he was yearning to mark her. To make her his. To make sure everyone would know who she belonged to. I couldn't allow that. Not after everything I've had to witness. No. I won't allow it to happen.

"No," I hissed, continuing my march to my class. I waved and smiled at a few people that I passed on the way to my class.

Mates are horrible. She broke him. She destroyed him. He wanted to stay with her because of me and now he's broken.

I'm a horrible son.

I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around abruptly to run to the office. Run to my father. I had to run in my human form because it is forbidden to use any and all abilities in the halls or outside of supervision.

"Mate," my wolf kept on pushing me to go back. To claim her. To teach her of who she really is. To let her know who we are.

I didn't stop running. I couldn't. I wouldn't. I had to see him. Find out why he brought her here. I ran directly to his office and pushed open the door, not bothering to knock.

At the sound of the door opening he jerked his head upward to acknowledge me. His surprised expression softened and he pushed his paper work and laptop away from in front of him and motioned for me to sit down. I closed the door and obeyed him.

"Dad," I said as I sat. He sighed. He knew what was coming.

"I told you to call me Mr. Pierce or Grayson at school," he said looking down. His voice soft. A shaky breath left me. I nodded in acknowledgement of his statement.

"Sorry," the word fell from my mouth. "It's just, I don't think I can do this," he ran his hand over his face. His aqua blue eyes showing, as clear as day, the exhaustion.

"Cade, listen. I know it's tough. But what happened between me and your mother isn't your fault. Yes it is true that some things have happened, some very bad things, but that doesn't mean that what happened to me will happen to you. That is life, okay?" His words rolled from his tongue.

He always knew. It was like I couldn't hide a thing from him. The moment he brought Claire here, I could feel her presence in the school. But it was only when he sent me to her room that I realized she was my mate. When I walked in being all pissed with her, he could tell. He knew I wanted to hate her. He just knew. It was like he could see the bond between us.

I pressed my lips tight together and clenched my fists. "But mom, she.." I trailed off. I couldn't find the right words.

"Exactly. Your mother did the things she did and she continues to plot today. But Claire isn't your mother. Claire is her own person. All females are not the same," he moved from his seat behind his desk and came to sit in one of the chairs next to me. His hand reached my tight fist and it loosened the grip. I looked into his eyes, the same colour as mine. He smiled. I returned it.

We remained silent for a while. It was just our presences. Our breaths becoming visible in the air. I scrunched up my face in confusion. The temperature was dropping. Rapidly. I jumped up out of the chair and dad did too.

"Cade!" It was distant but I heard it and I'm sure that dad did too. We looked at each other before we sprinted out of the room. The moment we stepped out, we froze.

Ice was spreading throughout halls. Too quickly for anything or anyone to try and stop it. I looked over to dad and it was like he read my mind. He rushed back into his office and spoke through the microphone that projected his desperate voice through the halls.

"This is Principal Pierce, evacuate the building immediately. I repeat, evacuate the building immediately. This is not a drill, evacuate immediately." That did it. We could hear the screams of the students.

He rushed back out and ran down the hall, but he didn't make it far. I tried to move and go after him but realized that my feet were stuck in the ice. It was rapidly growing on me. I looked up to see that 'Mr.Pierce' was stuck in the ice also. He tried moving but it was no use.

"Can you melt it?" His voice reached my ears. The temperature was way too low now. Our breaths were freezing and turning into little shards of ice.

I nodded to him. Igniting my body with the magic of the fire element, the ice slowly turned to water. Just enough fire, but not too much that could burn the building. I stepped forward, the flames still dancing around my body. As I walked the ice on floor started to melt and the water evaporate. I made it to him and touched his body, trying my best not to burn him.

Once the ice was completed melted after him, I ran with him behind me, careful not to set the building on fire and as for dad, he was careful not to touch the ice. We made it to the hall of lockers and found some student completely covered in ice.

"Dammit," dad swore. The sound of people struggling came from around the corner and we made our way there. Not only could we hear the sound of struggles but also the sound of the ice catching up to us.

"Melt as much of it as you can," he said to me. He didn't need to say it twice. I raised my arms up, palms facing the students and teachers in the ice, and allowed my magic to come forward. Flames danced and swiveled around my arms before I sent them to dance around the frozen bodies.

The ice melted slowly. Too slowly for my liking, but eventually it was gone. But as soon as it was gone it started to spread again. Even faster than the first time.

"Do not touch the ice," I could hear my father say from around the corner. "Those of you who can counter against the ice, lead the group outside, and keep everyone safe, I need to find the source of this," as he finished I heard grunts of agreement.

"All fire users, try to melt the ice as much as possible but do not cause a major fire to the building. Remember to protect one another if danger or harm were to come. Now get outside and spread the word. Get all fire users to spread a circle around everyone. Keep them warm and the ice away,"

Teeth were chattering and bodies  were shivering, trying to work up as much body heat as possible. The group rounded the corner. Four fire magis to the front. Once they saw me they stopped. It wasn't too big a group but it was too many people for only four fire magis. It looked to be about thirty others excluding the four to the front.

"Different formation. We need fire at every corner, one to front, two to the sides and one to the back," I ordered and they changed their formation.

"What about you, Cade?" someone from within the group asked. It was still unknown to me how basically everyone at this school knew my name. Was it because of the constant rumors or the fact that my friends happen to be popular?

"I have something to do," my answer was short and vague. Just the way it was supposed to be.

"Be careful man, this is insane," the fire user to the front said. I gave a brief nod and stepped out of their way. The people that I helped before walking and joining the group. With that they turned and headed out.

"Mate," my wolf was anxious. Scared. Yearning. And so was I. So I ran. I ran as fast as could, avoiding the ice shards on the way back to the room that I should have headed to first. The room I should have headed to when I heard her scream my name.

To Claire.
