Claire's P.O.V

"As promised earlier, I have a story to tell.."

That statement sparked my interest and so I sat upright removing the slouch from back.

" You're always telling stories, old man," Cade said with boredom laced in his voice.

'Rude.' I immediately thought.

"Shut up and listen," Grayson stated sternly. Cade, as I came to know him as, sighed and rolled his eyes.

"Before I begin, let me introduce this world to you. This world was the first world to come into existence. We were the first people to ever walk this planet of earth. We are what humans would call supernatural beings. We are fairies, werewolves, mermaids, whatever you can think of that is us." Grayson started. It sounded a lot like a fairy tale book that I just haven't read yet. What would be most interesting was if I could fly. That would be awesome. I don't know how to take this in so the best way is just to joke about it.

"Doesn't she know all of this already?" Cade sent a snarky remark. I glared at him in annoyance and nearly jumped out of my chair at him to rip his head off.

Instead of doing that I just said, "If I did, would he be telling me now?" That caused a scoff to escape his mouth.

Grayson continued completely ignoring the rude but sexy stranger, but not forgetting to cast him a glare.
"As I was saying,...it was only almost a million years later that people started to be born without magic. The people without magic or humans, as we would say, started to go on a rampage because they felt inferior. They knew each beings' weaknesses, for example, a werewolf's weakness is silver. They created machines and filled them up with our weakness and attempted to get rid of us. However, what they didn't know was that our God and his Goddess, didn't take serious injuries to these things and so they fought for us and eventually sent them away, erasing any and all memory from them about us, forbidding anyone to ever leave or interact with humans again."

I can't believe humans would do such a thing.

"One day, however, a man from the outside world of humans, crossed the borders, said he was just an adventurer. We tried to send him away but he was persistent and our God got involved. It had turned out that the man remembered us and all our secrets and came to complete the humans' mission. He failed though, but he did get word out about us but the folks believed he was a crazy old man and so his tales were written as fairy tales for the kids."

I leaned forward a bit in my seat as the story got more interesting.

"A few years later one of our very own, ran away and she encountered this man, she brought him back and managed to trick the God and Goddess into believing he was a changed man. When she said changed, she didn't mean his feelings toward us, she meant his abilities. The Gods discovered that he was a vampire and they locked him away after discovering he was forging plans with some humans to destroy us because he wanted to rule, and he lied about his identity. However, the woman that brought him in was pregnant with his baby. News spread and it got to him in the prison and he escaped taking the woman and his unknown child. To this day they are being hunted. You see Claire, I succeeded in hunting them down, but I was too late, the baby was already born and I couldn't dare kill an innocent child. So I made them give her away, locking her powers in the deep waters of a lake. That baby was you Claire."

I don't believe this. It can't be true.

"And so I took them to the highest security prison we have here in our town. The only problem is, this man wasn't working alone in his scheme to destroy us. Recently we have been having slight attacks from rogue Magis."

"What's a Magi?" I asked, unfamiliar to the term.

"A person who has abilities. A person without abilities is called a human. So a rogue magi is a person who betrayed Magis. Understand?" Cade explained and I nodded my head to answer his question.

"Thank you Cade. As I was saying, we've been having up to 20 attacks a week all over town, so we increased our security. " Grayson stated, turning his chair ever so slightly and pulling a paper from under a stack of files so to me. The paper was a report on one of the recent attacks. I felt horrified.

"What does any of this have to do with me?" I voiced, desperately trying to figure out what part I play in this.

"From the moment you were born, rogue Magis have been searching for you non-stop, and so I told your parents to put you in the lake on your sixteenth birthday, when I was sure, you would start showing signs of magic. Rogue Magis have hunted you through your father's scent and they located the town you were in. I was lucky to get you out in time. Now there isn't a trace of you. I brought you here so you would learn who you really are, and so you can protect yourself, and your people." He finished looking me deep in the eye. That way I was one hundred percent sure he was telling the truth.

"Cade here, will teach you the basics of magic until we discover what type of magi you are. Until then, you and Cade should not be too far apart from each other."

I looked over at Cade to see him look at Grayson in shock, as if he didn't agree with this decision at all. I didn't either. Neither of us said anything to disagree.

"I know it's a lot to take in, but please for yourself and the innocent people here, please help us protect them."

We said our farewells to Grayson and walked backed to my room. It really is a lot to take in. Seeing as Grayson believed I can do something, I will do whatever I can to help, I just hope I don't end up dead in the process.

Cade and I walked in silence that I can't say was comfortable or uncomfortable. I wanted to ask him questions but I couldn't find myself doing that, instead I just let him walk me to my room.

He opened the door for me and said,"Rest up some more, we have a lot to do tomorrow,"

I entered the room and let him close the door behind me after he said that he would come back tomorrow morning at eight. I walked to the bed and spread my body across it, letting the story settle in and falling asleep, to what was not quite peaceful but it was wonderful.
