He just stood there, looking painfully awkward. Clearly he had no idea what to sat. I mean, he probably thought I lived here alone or that I didn't have parents. My mother didn't help, she just looked at him, through her narrowed eyes. It always looked like she judging people, then again, she always was. Clearing my throat I got Aidan's attention, "um what are you doing here?

"Yes" my mm said, she was clearly annoyed. "What are you doing here? And how do you know my daughter?"

"Mom stop" I said, my voice rising slightly, how it always does when I get annoyed at her. Which seems to happen whenever she actually decided come back from work.

"I'm your mother and I deserve to know who that boy is and why he's here" she said, putting her hands on her hips, trying to play the parent card.

"Oh really" I said, 5 years of anger starting to bubble over me. "You deserve to know? Just like deserve a mom who doesn't work every freaking day for 20 hours because she doesn't want to be in this house, huh?" She only sighed, like she did whenever this fight broke out. "You won't even listen anymore!" I threw my arms in the air in annoyance.

"Honey I know you think I'm never around-" she started.

"You are never around. This is practically the first time I've seen you in 2 months!" I balled my hand into fists as I started to snap bitterly, "and whenever you do come to stay for like 5 minutes, we just fight and you won't even talk about d-"

"Honey you know how demanding my work is" she said, looking at her watch. I felt my face starting to get red from anger, she would never let me bring up dad anymore. "Oh well I just came by to check up on things, but I need to leave now." She walked to the door, "it was lovely to meet you Adam."

"It's Aidan" I screamed after her as she slammed the door. My eyes widened as I realized he was still standing there awkwardly. "Oh god, I'm really sorry. I really didn't think you'd show up here." Under my breath I added, "and I wish she didn't."

"What" he asked. I just shook my head, walking over to the couch and collapsed on it. "Um, I uh.. I'm really sorry."

I sat up and look at him, "why?"

"For uh the mall thing" he scratched the back of his neck awkward. "I was just um surprised to see you hanging out with him I guess.." I didn't say anything, my mother being back I had forgotten about the mall. I pulled my mouth into a tight line, I don't know why. I wasn't really mad about it anymore. "I really am sorry."

I fell backwards back onto the couch and sighed. "Why" i asked, not really caring if he answered. "Why did me hanging out with him bother you so much?"

"I don't know" he said, sighing himself. Then he came over to the reclining chair and sat down. "I just.. I guess I just don't like him. And since we're friends I feel like protective over you."

I turned to be laying on my stomach, my legs crossed in the hair. "We're friends" I asked, tilting my head slightly.

"Well duh" he said while laughing. "Why do you think I drove here to apologize?"

"Because your puppet master told you to" I said matter-of-factly. He just looked at me strangely and I laughed. "Last year in my science class my teacher asked if we believed there was intelligent life out in space and we all had to answer. So it came to this one kid that moved that summer and he's all shy and quiet. So he says that he believes we all were being controlled by like giants and were puppets." I shook my head remembering how bad I felt when everyone laughed at him, I bet he was joking. Aidan started laughing and I smiled at him.

When he looked over at him, he smiled back. Then it fell slight, "can.. can I ask you a question?"

"Well ya just did" I said, twirling a strand of my hair. "But I'm guessing you want to ask something else, so go ahead."

"Um, when you were with that guy-"

"Blake."

"Whatever. When you were with Blake.. Was it a date?" I fell off the couch in surprise, hitting my head on the coffee table when I tried to get back up. "Shit, sorry I didn't expect you to do that." He helped me get up, grabbing my shoulders and making me sit down. Then he sat next to me, blushing slightly.

"I wasn't expecting that as a question" I said, rubbing my head where I hit the coffee table. "Well.. I'm not sure what it was to be honest. To me, no it wasn't a date. I don't know if he thought it was though." Aidan was quiet for awhile, we sat in an uncomfortable quiet for a minute which felt like an hour. "Why?"

"Um, just wondering" he mumbled. With that we went back into the awkward silence. Was he jealous that I was with Blake? Did he think that I liked Blake? I groaned and leaned back on the couch as I kept thinking of questions. Was it really a date? Blake did say that it could've been.

"So that was your mom" Aidan suddenly asked, making me jump. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."

"You seem to be doing that I a lot" I mutter. "And yeah, that was the birth giver."

Aidan snorted as he laughed, "birth giver?"

I nodded, "yes, the woman who gave birth to me on October 31st at 2:28 AM."

"You were born on Halloween" he asked, eyes wide in surprise. I just nodded with a flat look. "Man that's gotta suck, I bet your siblings have fun with that, huh?"

"Don't have any" I said indifferently. "Only child."

He nodded, "I have an older brother, only a year, he skipped 3 years of school though. He's like a freaking angle in my parents eyes." I looked at him curiously, he was starting to ramble. "And I have a younger brother, poor mom wanted a daughter so badly but got 3 sons." He shook his head with a little smile. "She always blames dad for not giving her one. But she loves us." I simply nodded, not knowing what to say. It's been a long time since I could've said my mom loved me. Well she did, I mean it's not like she hates me. She's just too busy to stay for longer than 10 minutes.

"So your mom works a lot" he asked, I nodded a little, turning away so I wasn't looking at him. "That's gotta suck, I mean that just leaves you and your dad, right? And I'm guessing he works a lot too? I mean I've only been here twice but he's never been here."

"No, um he's not around" I muttered, crossing my arms. I don't know why I didn't tell people, it wasn't a huge deal anymore. I guess I was still annoyed at my mom because ever since he left she just works and pretends he never existed.

"Oh, I'm sorry" he said, surprised and embarrassed. "I didn't realize."

"Well I don't wear the 'my dad isn't in the picture' shirt. I don't think it fits anymore" I said, reverting to my first language: sarcasm.

"Well isn't someone being sassy now."

I shrugged, "I'm convinced that it ruins through my veins instead of blood." I smirked at him and he just laughed a little. After awhile it was quiet again and we just sat in the silence. "Well it's getting kinda late."

"Yeah, my mom will be livid if I miss dinner" he said. We both got up and walked to the door. "Um see ya Monday." He quickly hugged me and walked to his car, driving away. A blush crept onto my face as I closed the door.
