going solo

Avril:

Niall getting to skip two years off modules in the school and join me in the third was not unheard of. In fact, many of the year 3's in my class skipped one or two years for having experience as well. For me, a higher up had declined my application for a two-year study. Guess who.

He wanted me to take time to decide if I were to join his company or not. You know what my answer is.

And Niall and his stupid confession. We've only known each other for like a week. Sure he's not that bad looking and I know i'm very likeable but geez. I've surprisingly enjoyed his company, I don't cringe when he touches me and yes, my heart does skip a beat whenever I think of him (cheesy but obligatory to mention) but it's not to the point of liking yet. Right?

Today is Wednesday and I decided I wanted to let Niall explore the school for himself. I told him that today he had to make new friends and he couldn't sit with me in class. He already had the school map from the first day, he should have learnt to read it by now. Too much of babying on my part.

He seemed reluctant at first but he managed to come around to the idea of him going solo. By that, I mean I demanded he stop following me around for a few days and threatened to chop off his legs if he did. Plus, what if he really enjoyed other people's company than mine and just didn't know it yet?

I watched as Niall enters the lecture hall sweaty and with his hair dishevelled.  Seems like he hasn't been paying attention last week when I showed him how to get to the classes.

The whole class glances at me, then to him as if questioning the separation. His eyes look around the class as if searching. He'd better be looking for someone else to sit with.

His eyes come in contact with mine. He takes a step up the stairs. I glare at him threateningly, knowing what he was trying to pull. He takes another step, never breaking eye contact. I felt the whole room watching us and my cheeks redden. He takes plenty of steps more. If this boy dares sit next to me I will...

I shut my eyes, taking a deep breath. If he's trying to piss me off, bravo. He's doing one heck of a job.

Niall POV:

My eyebrows raised at what Avril was asking me to do.

"Just for today." She says, "You've been attached to me by the hip all this time... so you should just go on by yourself and explore."

"Am I bothering you by being around too much? Do you need some time with your other friends?" I questioned her. I don't get what she's trying to achieve by pushing me away. If I wanted to make other friends, I could.

"No, i've gotten used to your annoying-ness. You just need to try and find other friends."

"I like hanging with you, and you don't have any friends." I commented.

She rubs her temple. "Do you have your school map?"

"Yes, why?"

"Use it. Don't follow me. And when you get to your classes, don't sit next to me." She turns her back to me and walks away. She suddenly pauses and glances back. "If you do, I will chop your legs off."

------

This school was a complete maze, even with the school map. I should have paid attention the directions Avril told me instead of just nodding along to everything while daydreaming about the comic I just finished reading. The comic was really good though, my head tells me. Sigh, it really was.

"Hey, you!" I called out to a guy leaning against a locker. He looks up from his phone to me. He raises an eyebrow. " Do you know where is lecture hall 78?"

"Having class there?"

"Yeah, in fifteen minutes."

"Bro, it's at the other side of the school." He laughs out suddenly. My mouth drops open. Really? I've traveled all around the school to have ended up at the wrong place? He wipes away a tear. "C'mere. I'll give you directions. Reaching lecture hall 78 in fiften minutes... Too funny."

----------

The guy wanted to exchange numbers after that but I was rushing so I told him my room number instead. Surprisingly, his room was close to mine so it was possible I would see more of him in the future. I had cursed when I had started to run to class and realised I forgot to ask for his name.

By the time I reached the lecture hall, it was exactly 10am sharp meaning I was on time for class. Thank the stars.

I collected myself outside the lecture door as I took deep breathed to regulate my breathung again. Having to perform for two hours straight whilst having minimal breaks and having to rush to positions whilst giving a handsome grin the whole time had made looking composed at the moment easy for me.

I opened the door and walked in the lecture hall. I was met with many faces looking back at me, curious. I was looking for only one. I scanned the whole room before realising she would be in the back row. My eyes caught hers.

I kept my gaze locked on her glaring ones and kept myself from smiling. I held a serious face whilst walking towards her slowly. My face probably showed no emotion, but a thousand thoughts was circling around my mind. I see her blush.

Should I actually sit next to her after her specifically saying not to? I shouldn't.

Should I then sit somewhere around her? She didn't say I couldn't.

Does she look cute when she blushes? Definitely.

As I get closer I see her shutting her eyes tightly as if she was trying to control herself from exploding at me. I looked around her and saw there was a vacant seat in front of her. Beside that vacant seat was sitting cute girl with black hair, watching me with excitement in her eyes.

I smiled at her and proceeded to take a seat next to her without saying a word. I took out my laptop from my bag and settled in. Happy, Avril?

Suddenly, I feel heat at the back of my neck as if someone was burning holes into it. Don't turn around, I made sure to tell myself without murmuring it out loud.

Pling!

A paper ball hits my head. I refused to turn around. I decided to introduce myself to the girl beside me. She was bice and introduced herself as well.

"NIALL." Aveil whisper-yells at me.

I smirk, before turning around. "Sorry, I was too busy exploring and making friends to notice you. Yes, may i help you?"

"What are you doing?" She says experatedly.

"Why, moving on, of course." I shrug.

"You only moved on this far," she barely needed to stretch her hand to reach my head before smacking the back of it lightly. "And I didn't say 'move on', doofus. I just wanted to give you a chance to not get held back by me."

My chest drops. I opened my mouth to speak while holding the back of my head. "I'm not-"

"Okay class, sorry i'm late. Let's begin." The voice of lecturer calls out causing Avril to look to her and ignore me. I turn as well, hands clenched, head down. Held back? What did she mean? Why is this girl so confusing?

I looked to the lecturer to try and concentrate on his words but they all go past me. I sigh, there was still much of her I needed to understand.
