"my parents won't be back until monday. a whole week away," I tell him. he sits down in the dirt, and looks up at the sky.

"where have you been? what have you been doing?" he asks, not caring about my parents at all. honestly, i don't either, he just couldn't tell what i was hinting at.

"an old friend dropped by for a visit," i explain vaguely.

     "oh," cole says flatly.

after that night, when i called cole, felix left unexpectedly. he left a note saying he'd be back, but i'm not expecting anything. it was still a wonder why exactly he came. maybe my mom told him to check on me, but then it turned into something else. maybe he noticed i was suffering, i'm still suffering, kind of. maybe he wanted to make sure i didn't end up like him, however he ended up..

"why did felix goldsworthy call me this morning?" cole questions.

"i haven't seen felix in a while," i lie. felix is gonna get an earful the next time i see him.

"don't lie, anya, please," cole takes one look at me, his eyes have dark circles underneath them. he probably hasn't slept in days.

"what did he say?" i ask.

"that you needed someone else. that i couldn't keep holding you back."
