My eyes went wide as he said that. He must have realized the time and he kissed my forehead and said a quick goodbye.

I grabbed a new outfit out of the closet and put it on. When I walked into the bathroom I saw a note that read,
"I know we told Anne she could go to that play-date, but I don't want her around that boy. He's a bad influence. Please, if you love me you won't take her.
-Dally"
I flipped the note over in my hands a few times before putting it back on the sink counter. Anne won't be happy about this but Dally's wrath will be worse.

I decided to go downstairs and make some pancakes for Anne and I. The music I had on must have woken Anne, she trotted down the stairs with her eyes still foggy from sleep.
Her pajamas were light blue with little yellow stars on them.
Her bright eyes shined. The light colour of them held such a calmness that can only be found in a child.

She followed me around as I finished cooking the fluffy cakes. I put her in her high-chair and kissed her forehead, the same way Dally did this morning to me.
I put two tiny pancakes on her plate and two large ones on mine. She poured syrup all over her food and stabbed them with her fork.

After breakfast I took her out of her chair and put her in a nice black dress. She held onto the collar of my dress as I put her into her car-seat. I got into the car and started driving to my mothers house.

When we got there, I took Anne out of the car and held her to my hip. I knocked on the big red door, of what is now only my mothers house ever since my dad died a couple years ago. Going back to this place is like a nightmare, all the nights spent crying in the corner as I heard the yelling.

The door opens to a blue eyed woman with brown hair and a shining smile.
"Oh, Darienne. I wasn't expecting you. Why didn't you call? I would have cleaned up the house a bit."
My mother, Anna, took Anne into the house as she kept talking,
"Cole has his 'girlfriend' over. They're in the living-room. Hunter and Phoenix are probably scheming upstairs again."

I stared at the family photos thinking how the man in them was never my father. A slight squeal along with a voice crack came from behind me.
"You're back." My thirteen year old brother Cole said.
He gave me a huge hug then a cough came from behind us. A girl with curly blonde hair was the one who made the sound.
"Oh, was i interrupting something? Because I must have been mistaken when I thought Cole was MY boyfriend."
Her voice came out in a high pitch tone similar to that of a clarinet. Nonetheless I extended a hand towards her and gave my most sickly sweet smile.
When she didn't shake my hand I just walked away.

I walked upstairs and stomped into Hunter's room. Phoenix was the first one to notice me before they both tackled me to the ground. "I missed you." Hunter said.
