She wondered how long it would be before there were others. How many decades would it take for the mutation to become more predominant so that she was no longer the only person with it. It was so strange to think that she really was the only person alive who could do the things she could do and it was true. There was no one in the world who had her abilities except for her, for she was just the first step in a very large jump to a new humanity. A humanity were people lived longer, where people had access to more of their brain, where emotions were not so easily hidden and science would reach an all new level. Beyoncé didn't feel like her life really meant anything though. So far all she's been is a vector. Everything had become so ambiguous despite her new gifts, she would have thought that her new gifts would have solved everything but they don't. They just make it worse. She breathed out heavily and then ran her fingers through her hair as she sat in her garden looking up at the sky. There were two cameras in her garden and surrounding her was a thick forest, the road was so far away that she couldn't even hear an ambulance go through it if it did. She looked at Olly who ran around as usual without his shirt on and smiled. She just wanted him to have a normal life, if not for herself, then she had to escape for him.
"Be careful!" She yelled over to him. "I don't want to have to heal you." She gave him a quick wink and he laughed before falling over Darwin who had been asleep on the floor. When Shawn had left in the morning she made sure she got Olly and Darwin to make sure they were okay after yesterday but they seemed fine. She figured she'd let them play about for a while because who knew what their lives would be like when they escaped. Perhaps they'd be hiding out in a different country. Maybe they'd be living freely in a suburban town. Perhaps they'd be hunted and killed before an hour even passed. Who knew?
"Where's Shawn?" Olly asked without making eye contact with her, instead he just stroked Darwin in his hands.
"He's working, baby." She crawled over to them and wrapped one arm around Olly who looked up at her with a sad smile. "What's wrong?" Beyoncé looked into those icy blue eyes of his and pinched his small cheek.
"Why don't I look like you two?" Olly asked, a part of her was very proud of how much better he was becoming at talking but another part was sad that one of the first sentences he ever said was that he was different than they were. "You have dark skin but I don't." He looked down at his pale white skin and then reached his hand up to touch his black hair, "My hair feels different. I'm not like you." She pulled him even closer to her and leaned down close to him.
"We all look different, Olly. It doesn't matter what we look like or where we're from- we're all just people and you have to remember that. No one is better than anyone else because of the way they look, there isn't a right or wrong way to look, there's just what we are and we learn to love it." Her fingers ran through her hair softly as she spoke so he looked up at her and smiled brightly, "It doesn't matter because we're a family." She then leaned down to kiss his head and he nodded slowly.
"I love you." He told her proudly, he had never said that before and he really didn't know what it meant. In his head he was saying: You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, I can't imagine my life without you, I don't want anything bad to happen to you ever, you're my best friend and all that other stuff he felt when he looked at her.
"I love you too." She almost chocked on her words as she looked down at him. There was something so incredibly emotional about hearing him say those words to her, it made her heart swell and beat just a little harder which wasn't easy when your body practically regulated itself to perfection.
Someone behind her was excited, she could feel it, so she turned around and looked at Dr Hearty who made his way toward them with a smile on his face.
