Télékinésie: Chapter 17

Many people had told Tina that she ought not to get married so young. Scarlet was the driving force of this argument which was of course understandable. They believed that Tina barely even knew who she was, she didn't know what she wanted from the world, she was too young, naive and impressionable but it didn't matter because when Tina put her mind to something... she did it. She also knew that 22 was far too young to really be married but what was the point in waiting? She didn't know when the scientists would find her or when she would die because she wasn't the same as everybody else. Who knew if she'd live for ever or barely at all? So when Mathew had asked her to Marry him, she couldn't say no. He had a good job as a Xerox salesman and she- with a lot of help from Scarlet and her identity hiding skills- managed to get a job at a bank. They had good enough money, a strong relationship and were adamant on making the most of the ambiguous time they had. 

"Matt." Tina called as she carried a box into the living room. "Matt!" She called again. When she didn't hear his voice she began to panic but before she had any time to think he popped out from behind the couch, 

"Boo!" He screamed. Tina jumped and ignited the box in her hands so that a large blaze flew up in front of her. Mathew quickly ran over to the kitchen and grabbed a bucket of water before throwing it over both Tina and the box in a panic. "I didn't think you'd be that scared." Tina dropped the remainder of the box to the floor and looked up at Mathew with stern features. 

"That was silly, Matt! I could have burned down the house." She chuckled breathlessly as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek. "Nope no no no no, you're not making up for it with kisses. Clean this up, Matt. " She removed herself from his arms and walked over to the couch to grab her purse. 

"You going to work?" He asked her as he watched her get ready to leave. 

"Yep. I'll be back in time to cook dinner though." She went to walk out of the house but Mathew got a gently hold of her wrist and looked into her eyes softly, 

"Be careful." He warned. "Scarlet said that she saw a few scientists lurking around y'alls old house. They could have caught up to us and if they see you-" He began but she cut him off, 

"Honey" She took a hold of his hands. "I know. I've been doing this for years, I wish I knew how they found me though." She went to kiss his lips but he moved away from her and looked down at her with raised eyebrows. 

"You know how they find you." He told her sternly, "You're careless, you set too much on fire in front of people. People talk and news spreads fast, you have to contain it because I don't want to loose you." Mathew had never meant to harm Tina, he didn't want any harm to come to her. 

"I'm sorry. I really have to go to work now. We'll talk more later" She quickly pecked his lips and then walked out of the house leaving him behind. 

Tina was on her way home when she heard foot steps behind her, she had never been particularly worried about being hurt before because she knew she was far more powerful than any idiot with a knife. She stopped in her tracks and turned to look at the person who had been following her for a while, even when she walked in a circle. 

"Excuse me?" She said but he lifted his hand and covered her mouth with a strong smelling rag. It's effects worked too fast for her to be able to do anything. Before she could set anything on fire, before she could defend herself, before she could even raise her hand everything went blurry. This was a moment where she was truly scared. There were always the men who looked at her as if she were a piece of meat, those who whistled at her and others who had gone up to her but never got any where because her heart was sold to Mathew but never in her life had she thought that anyone would do this to her. This person was far worse than the scientists, and worse than villains in movies. They were an animal.
