After P.E I practically sprinted to my basic engineering class, the idea of being surrounded by cold, hard, malleable metal made me almost want to cry. I was the first to get there and was greeted by a tall, wiry man. He introduced himself as Mr. Heptude, and told me I could sit where ever I wanted. I sat in the back of the classroom, where I knew I wouldn't be noticed by my peers. Soon the rest of the class began to fall in and all the work tables were full, I was the only person who sat alone. I was glad, no one to disturb me. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. When I opened them again, I saw a girl sitting next to me. At first I thought maybe she was Aphrodite, but then I realized she was the girl who sat at the head of Chris's table. She smiled, it was a pretty smile nothing like Calypso but still really pretty.

“I'm Kailee.” She whispered. “I hope you don't mind that I sit here.”

 “No problemo.” I whispered back.

“...These will be your partners for the rest of the year.” Mr. Heptude announced. “Best get to know them. I'll give you ten minutes.” He grunted and looked at his watch.

“Leo,” I said giving her my hand, she shook it.

 “You're new this year right?”

“Yep, and you're friends with Chris?” Kailee smiled shyly.

“Yeah I've known him most of my life. Is Calypso like… your girlfriend?” I was caught off guard by her question.

“Um.. Well no... But I mean we are really close.” She titled her head to the sideand widened her eyes innocently as if to say keep going Leo, say something embarrassing. “Just friends,” I settled on, but under my breath I whispered. “for now.” She asked about my life and my interests and disinterests. It was a easy, and friendly conversation, we laughed as she explained her secret love for machinery. If I had never met Calypso I would probably think that Kailee was the woman for me. But I had met Calypso.

“You're going to my party right?” Kailee asked blinking her big hazel eyes.

“Oh, I wasn't going too I..” I tried, in vain to think of an excuse.

“C'mon It'll be really fun.” She cooed.

“Alright, I guess I can go for a little while.” She smiled widely and gave my arm a friendly squeeze. Mr. Heptude stood back up and began talking about all the different tools we would use this year. It seemed comical to me that he would have to explain the safety hazards when I had most of the tools in my tool belt. As much as I loved tools he quickly lost my attention and I started doodling on a blank sheet of paper. I drew a few models for legs to put on a brick that Jason had become oddly attached too. I wondered what my friends were doing, I could just picture Annabeth and Percy sitting on the beach, Annabeth building an intricate sandcastle while Percy gathers pretty stones and shells. Jason was probably training with Piper, who was constantly trying to get better. Nico was probably with Hazel and Frank, fixing and making decisions for new Rome before they came back to school. I sighed.

“Mr. Valdez, answer my question.” The teacher said all eyes were on me. He was holding a complex tool, something I hadn't brought to school with me but, there was one just like it sitting in bunker 9.

“Senco Fusion Finish Nailer.” Mr. Heptude looked surprised, but quickly recovered.

“Good eye, Valdez but pay attention next time.” I just nodded. The bell rang soon after.A wave of relief rolled over me, when I realized the first day was over. A day that seemed like it would have come from the darkest reaches of my mind had been had been okay. Sure the goddess of love delivered some of the most heartbreaking news I'd ever heard, I got threatened on more than one occasion, and got told by the love of my life not to ruin her budding relationship, but it could have been worse. I tried to get out of the classroom as fast as I could but Kailee grabbed my arm.

“Walk me to my room?” She smiled. I couldn't think of anything to say so I nodded and linked my arm in hers. I listened to her talk the whole way to her room and tried not to say much. She told me about how she was the head cheerleader and all her cool stunts. She let go of my arm when we arrived at room the story above mine. “Here we are. Come in?” I followed her in and looked around, the room was mostly pink but there were other colors everywhere. “You can sit on the bed or anywhere.” Kailee said as she stepped into the bathroom, I sat down on the light pink sheets and picked up a picture by her bed. She was sitting with two adults and a younger boy. They were all laughing and covered in cake frosting. I smiled but felt a pang of jealousy, I always did when I saw a happy family. She came out of the bathroom and sat next to me, her hair was pulled into a bun.  “You're coming to my party for sure?”

“I guess so. It'll be fun?”

“Of course it will.” She laughed, pawing at my hand. She started talking about all the things she was going to do at the party. We talked a lot about a lot of things, it was so light and I enjoyed the calm of it. It seemed like 20 minutes but when I checked my watch, I saw that an hour had gone by. I had wanted to work on Calypso's bathroom a little before dinner.

“I gotta go,” I said pointing at the door. “I promised Calypso I would make her bathroom cooler.”

“Alright, Mr. Mechanic.” She laughed light-heartedly.

“See ya later.”

“You too.” I took my time walking to Calypso's. I had some wire in my pockets and set to building an airplane, by the time I arrived at Calypso's room, I had a functioning mini plane. She hadn't given me a key yet, but thanks to the Stoll brother's I was excellent at picking locks. I pulled a piece off the airplane and pushed it into the keyhole, after a few seconds it opened. I walked in.

“Hey, sunshine,” She was sitting on her bed and she smiled at me warmly. “What's up?”

“Chris is here, we are just talking.” She began to explain her day and I sat crisscross applesauce, on the ground in front of her and listened, half way through her story about lunch, Chris walked out of the bathroom.

“Oh hey, Valdez.” He gave me a threatening look, and raised his eyebrows.

“Don't mind me, I'm just here to be smarter tha In you, Oh and make Calypso's bathroom better. Something I'm sure you can't do.” I batted my eyelashes, he just rolled his eyes.

“Well, then get to work

“Yes, Sir!” I saluted him mockingly, and marched into the bathroom. I examined the sink and tried to figure out what tools I would need. When I decided grabbing all of them would be best, I started out of the bathroom.

“He's just so annoying.” I heard Chris Scoff.

“Yeah.” Calypso laughed nervously.

“We're going to show him at the party.” He laughed, it was a booming sound. And a faint giggling from Calypso.

“I need to grab a few things see you in a minute,” I started walking out. “Actually I have some homework. So I probably won't come back.” I pointed at them and left awkwardly.

Alrighty. So this short and bad. Also I'm going to do the next part in Leo's POV again. And they belong to Rick Riordan.  You can comment and vote please. Thanks
