“I just don't understand why you all get to be juniors, and I have to be a freshman.” Nico pouted as he picked dirt out of the bottom of his shoes with his pitch black knife. “Even Hazel, she's younger than me you know.”
“Not technically.” Hazel said looking away from the game of go fish she was playing with Percy. “I was born in 1928, you were born in the 30's.” We had congregated in Hazel's room, she was the only one of us that had their own room. Percy and Jason ended up in the same room and so did Annabeth and Piper, and Frank was sharing a room with Nico. I was leaned up against the bed and Piper was braiding my hair. It felt like camp had all summer, we were hanging out and just enjoying each others company.
“I am right!” Annabeth shouted holding up her laptop. “I told you, Grace!” He buried his face in his hands.
“Dude, I told you too never bet against Annabeth.” Percy said nonchalantly. Jason came and sat next to Piper.
“We all need to talk, its important.” Piper said and stopped braiding my hair. “It's about Leo and a certain former goddess.”
“No its unimportant, we definitely don't need to talk about this.” I tried to convince them. Hazel set her final pair down and Percy sighed in frustration. They scooted closer. “It really is not a big deal, I mean its me. All the ladies love me, I'm not going to be tied down by a goddess or anyone.”
“Valdez, we know you're in love with her. Get over yourself.” Nico stood walked out. When he opened the door Kailee pushed through. He walked out without looking up.
“Leo, I am so sorry.” She ran in and threw her arms around me. “Are you okay?” I realized that I hadn't talked to her since the party. “They made me, I didn't want too. They made me.”
“Oh, um, yeah I'm fine. It's fine.” I tried to run my fingers through my hair and they got stuck on a braid.
“What happened?” Piper said standing.
“Nothing Pipes,” I said shaking my head. “Don't worry.”
“If something happened, we're ready too beat people up, if they're bugging you.” Percy and Annabeth stood too.
“Guys calm down, its nothing.” I said. “Kailee, this is everyone. Everyone this is Kailee.”
“Hi Kailee,” Piper said she was tall enough to look down on Kailee, “I'm Piper, Leo is my best friend, basically my baby brother-”
“I'm not a baby.” I said then I whispered. “I am a man.” Piper gave me an annoyed side glance.
“Anyways, sweetheart, if you do anything to hurt Leo, So help me!"
Jason pulled her back by her shoulders “Woah, calm down Pipes!” He began petting her hair and it seemed to soothe her.
“Thank you wonder boy,” I said and then looked back at Kailee. “These are my friends from camp.” I smiled awkwardly and shrugged. Everyone backed off and went back to whatever they were doing before. I sat back down against the bed and Piper started braiding again. Kailee was talking to Annabeth about a local building, and Percy was watching Annabeth. It wasn’t creepy in any way it was actually really nice. I had seen Annabeth watching Percy the same way. It was like they were capturing every last detail of each other, like they could lose each other at any second. He reached out and moved his fingers through the golden tips of her hair, and she smiled at him. His hand settled on hers and she went back to her conversation and Percy started talking to Frank, but they continued to hold on to each other.
I sighed as I finished a small horse robot. “Do you like her?” Piper asked in a hushed tone as she continued to braid my hair.
“She's cool.”
“You need to tell Calypso.”
“Nah, I don't want to be tied down. Besides what would I do about all the girls just throwing themselves at me?” I gave her a thoroughly cocky smile.
“You can't run from your feelings.” Piper said.
“Who's running?” I laughed and looked at my watch. “Oh. I've got to go,” I announced. “Robotics meeting.”
“Aren't all those little robots too easy for you?” Hazel asked looking up from a game of solitaire.
“Yes they are, but I thought you guys weren't going to be here for a while, so I tried making friends. And every robotics team needs a mad genius.” I smirked and made my way out of the room.
“See you later, repair boy.” Piper called.
“Yeah, and you better not ditch us at dinner for your robot friends!” Jason yelled as he jumped onto the bed next to Piper.
“Wouldn't think about it, Wonder boy!”Jason yelled as he jumped onto the bed next to Piper.
“Wouldn't think about it, Wonder boy!” I took my time walking to the robotics room. I followed a path that led too a huge garden. There were people all over the place, I spotted Calypso digging into a patch of moist dirt. She was wearing jeans and a big t-shirt, and her auburn hair was pulled in a ponytail on the top of her head. I stood on the edge of the garden and watched as she dropped seeds into a few small holes. A thin strand of hair fell into her face and she batted at it with dirt stained gloves. She spent another few minutes digging and burying seeds, until another piece of hair fell back into her face and she threw down the shovel and ripped the gloves off her hands. I had never seen her do anything out of anger while she was gardening, but she grabbed sheers out of her bag and threatened her hair. That's when I decided to jump in.
“Woah Calypso, what are you doing?” I said and pulled the tool out of her hand. “Pins might be easier.” I tucked the hair behind her ear. “You okay?”
“I'm fine, I don't need you to rescue me anymore.” She picked up her gloves. “I've been thinking about cutting it anyways.”
“I like it long, but it's your hair.” I smiled awkwardly. I got up to leave her alone. “Sorry if it seems like I'm trying to rescue you or whatever.” I kicked a rock near my shoe. “I just want you to be okay.” I nodded and walked away
“I'll see you later.” She said gently. I didn't want too spend anymore time outside so I made a beeline for the robotics room. I wanted too be back at camp in the forge, with all my brothers and sisters, working on new machines and weapons for my friends. And I desperately missed Festus.I couldn't wait for winter break to go back to camp, only 12 weeks left. I sighed as I went into the room.
“Hey Leo,” Yvonne greeted me. “We just started, check out these blueprints.” I studied the numbers and calculations they made for the simple robot.
“Can I see a pencil?” Yvonne handed me a stubby yellow pencil and I changed a few numbers to make it stronger.
“That's perfect.” Noah stated. We talked about the machine and they were all smart kids but it seemed to always boil down to my opinion.
“Lets take a break.” Daniel said and put his arm around Yvonne. “Who are all those attractive people that you were hanging out with?” They all looked at me.
“Those are my friends from camp, I hope you guys don't mind them sitting with us. They're my best friends.”
“We don't mind.” Yvonne nodded.
“But they aren't on the team.” Daniel assured us, and we all laughed.
Okay, this sucks but whatever. Rick Riordan owns the characters. Vote and comment if you want. Thanks!
