On Saturday, at around one o'clock, Beatrice walked back and forth in her room as the sun's rays shined through her window and reflected on her bed making a slight mist of dust to show in the light.
She heard the sound of dishes clacking and she began to doubt if it was a good idea to let Tom prepare lunch. She was still getting used to bonding with him and not fighting with him for once so she didn't want to tell him it was a bad idea for him to prepare lunch since he tends to always burn things.
She smelled a strong aroma of burgers coming from the kitchen. He was cooking alright. At least for now.
She took a deep breath and held her necklace tight. She shut her eyes so hard that she felt the great tightness of the skin around her eyes. She held her necklace so tight and wished but nothing seemed to be happening.
She groaned hard that a loud annoying sound that always seemed to occurred when she tried so hard to control her necklace occurred. She opened her eyes and yelled still pacing back and forth.
She was not even close to figuring out how to control this so called magical necklace. No matter how many times she had tried.
Sometimes she wondered if her mom was just trying to cheer her up or maybe trying to give her hope when she told her that the necklace was magical. But again she thought and asked herself why her mother would fill her head with fairytale.
"No. She wouldn't have. It had to be the truth." She thought trying to force herself to believe.
"Bea come eat!" She heard Tom saying from downstairs.
She had never asked him about the necklace because of all the constant arguments they had been having. So now was a good time to ask if he knew anything because she was getting fed up of trying everything and none of them working. Actually, she was already fed up.
She walked out of her bedroom and down the stairs to the kitchen where she found her step dad placing two plates of food on the table. She stared at him wondering how she was going to ask him this. He was probably going to think she was insane because magic isn't supposed to be real.
"Are you okay?" Tom asked wondering why she was staring at him without saying anything. Bea sighed and said
"No." She had to ask him despite the outcome of how he would react. He will probabaly be shocked or humoured if he had no knowledge of a magical necklace. "Do you know anything about this necklace?" She gesture to the necklace on her neck "Did my mom tell you anything about how it's magical and all?"
He didn't look shocked or about to laugh but he did look confused.
"I didn't even know there was such a thing as a magical necklace." He squinted. But the serious frown on his expression guaranteed Bea that he was telling the truth.
Cindy never told Tom about the necklace? He didn't even know there was such a thing as a magic necklace? It made a bit sense since her mom stopped wearing the necklace when she met Tom.
But why did she stopped wearing it? She was surprised that her mom never mentioned the necklace to Tom. It was really mysterious and the more she thought about the reason of her mom not telling him, the more she wanted to get the bottom of this mystery.
There had to be an answer and certainly that answer would help Beatrice understand clearly and perhaps help her learn how to control the necklace. She thought about the rest of her family and how they may know.
Bea ran the door bell on the wooden brown door with a golden lock. She felt like she hadn't been there in ages. She ought to come here more often.
She looked around the neighborhood to see if there was anyone that could see her. After seeing no one she held her necklace again for another try.
She had been doing this constantly all the way to here and she was going crazy.
She saw the door open and a blow of wind rushed towards her. Aunt Marie was standing in front of her with a happy smile and a mug in her hand. She looked cheerful. That makes one of them.
Bea forced herself to return the smile but it's hard to smile when you're trying to figure out if your mom left you with a giant big lie or not.
"It's about time you came to visit." Aunt Marie said gesturing for her to come in. Bea followed her in the kitchen "Do you want some coffee? " She asked
Bea chuckled. Only Aunt Marie would be drinking coffee at three in the evening.
"What? It's good for the nerves. " Aunt Marie said reading her mind.
"Sure." She could calm down some nerves of trying to control her necklace right now.
Aunt Marie poured some coffee into a white mug and added milk knowing how much Beatrice despised black coffee. Bea decided to ask her right then about her necklace. She didn't know what her expression would be but she sure hoped she knew at least something.
"Aunt Marie, do you know anything about the necklace that I am wearing. The one my mother gave to me and how it's magical and all?"
"What do you mean?" Asked Aunt Marie as she poured sugar into Bea's cup. She stared up at her with confusion. Great. She had gotten that from her dad already.
"Did my mom ever tell you anything about it?"
"No. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a magical necklace." She did remember Bea telling her that her mom gave her the necklace but she didn't remember her ever mentioning it's magical.
Bea never mentioned it because she thought it was absurd and frankly, Bea wished she would have done this investigation or whatever she was doing earlier despite how absurd it is.
"That's very funny. You are saying the same thing as dad." She in a confused voice.
Now it was her turn to be confused. She was giving her the exact same expression and answer as Tom. It was more ironic than funny actually. She wasn't in the mood for jokes.
"Tom does not know either? " Aunt Marie said.
"No." Answered Bea taking sip of her cofee. She stared down at the plain counter table.
So the mystery of the necklace remained unfound. There was still one person to ask. Uncle Tim. But the man was always busy. He was always out on business trips around the world. That's why he didn't have a family or a wife. He hardly had time to settle down and date or have children. Even if Bea had called him on the phone, he wouldn't have answered. He is usually the one that calls and checks up on them once in a while. But Bea doubted he knew anything about it. She doubted if anyone alive knew anything about it.
All this unknown answers about the necklace were making it pretty hard for her to believe in her mom's words and without believe, she was definitely never going to know how to control the necklace if it was magical.
