The sunlight peaked in through the tiny window above the bed. They both lived in a small cabin just bordering the forest. Living together, in the quietness of nature, was truly what they wanted since they graduated high school. Tris woke up slowly, her arms stretching out beside her sides, her eyes opening and catching the small, white folded piece of paper beside her bedside.
A smile spread on her pink lips. Her hands reached out, picking up the small paper and opening it so she could read the note inside.
Good morning, love. Would you like some breakfast?
The message was simple, yet her husband had always written and placed them right on her night table, every morning. He claimed that he loved seeing the smile on her face once he walked in. And no matter what day it was, no matter what had happened the night before, he always placed a piece of paper scribble with words.
Tris sat up on her elbows, dropping the notes into the mason jar sitting on the second shelf of her nightstand. As a small creak came from the door opening and Tris turned her head, catching sight of her husband standing at the door with a wooden tray in his hands. He walked closer, sitting down on the purple duvet, setting the breakfast tray on top of his lap.
"Good morning," he said, moving an arm around Tris and pulling her closer. "If you don't want any, I'm glad to eat it all myself."
Tris shoved her elbow lightly into Tobias's chest, rolling her eyes as she looked up to him and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Thank you for the note. I love them," she told him, her voice still low with sleep.
"And I love you," he smiled and a moment later, the facial expression was gone. "Remember that."
Tris brushed her thumb along the brown hair that still stuck up, in a bed-head hairstyle. "I love you too," she told him back. "You remember that."
Though his facial expression didn't change and he leaned in, brushing his nose along Tris's. A second later he leaned in, taking a deep breath before moving his mouth closer.
A cut up strawberry piece was placed on top of his tongue instead.
His eyes opened wide just in time to see his wife dig a fork into the pancakes with whipped cream sitting of the plate. Amusement twinkled in her gray eyes as she looked back up to Tobias.
"Did you want to kiss me?" She asked, almost laughing. "I'm sorry; the food can't run cold."
"There's a thing called the microwave, you know."
Tris rolled her eyes, stabbing another piece of pancake and holding it up before Tobias's face. After he finished chewing was when he leaned in, getting the kiss he wanted minutes ago. Tris moved a hand tightly around his neck and Tobias moved away, only to place the breakfast tray on the side table before they were kissing again.
When he was leaning over her and Tris's back was against the bed, she pulled away and pressed a hand to his chest. "I'm hungry," she protested.
The answer in Tobias's eyes made Tris roll her own as their lips continued together. They continued further, deeper, until Tobias was trailing his lips down her neck, taking her pajama shirt off and throwing it to the floor.
Little did they know that would change their lives forever, and that would be their last time doing it.

It was a busy work week of waking up with small notes next to her bedside but no Tobias walking into their room. He had a long day job, went at seven o'clock in the morning until four o'clock in the evening. Tris didn't have her job, of working at the local library. Tobias's job was a good pay, and with them moving closer to the point of trying for a child . . .
