Exactly two years from their wedding, the bride found out that there would be another addition to their little family. She didn't just yet tell her husband, only jumping with glee in her heart as she saw the positive sign show. Her best friends, Marlene and Christina, were over, and had stopped at the drugstore before they came to grab the pregnancy tests. Her husband, Tobias, was at work and wouldn't be home for another three hours. He worked as a technician, while Tris worked as a nurse at the local hospital. Their job incomes would be great for taking care of a baby.
Her dog, Lila, sat right outside the bathroom door as Tris opened it. The test was held tight with excitement in her hand and Tris walked towards the living room, where her friends sat. The golden retriever trotted happily behind her owner as Marlene and Christina looked up to Tris.
"Positive."
Marlene let out a squeal of joy, getting up and wrapping her arms tight around Tris.Christina smiled, although it was tense, and she didn't move from the couch to wrap her best friend into a hug. Something clouded her gaze and she dazed off, hands held tightly in front of her. Tris still moved her eyes to Marlene, not before sending a concerned look Christina's way, before she was smiling. The happiness rushed back.
"How do you think he will react? How are you going to tell him?"
"We're going to dinner tonight. I got him that watch he's been wanting for a while, and I think I'm gonna switch out that for this. Just place the watch on the dresser for now." Then, taking another glance outside the window, Tris frowned. There was already an inch of white snow on the ground, more flakes floating down from the sky. "I hope it doesn't get too bad that the roads close. We've been wanting to go to this restaurant for months."
"Hopefully it will stop," Marlene said, always the positive one. Christina still seemed in a daze when Tris looked back to her, and she hated that she became happy easily as she remembered the stick in her hand.
Pregnant.
She was pregnant.
Nothing could keep her mood from dampening that day.

Until the roads closed down, and Tris had to jump right back into comfy clothes as they couldn't go out. Tobias stood by the stove, cooking whatever they would have for their substitute dinner. It was usually the main plate they shared on their wedding night, at least that's what they did last year, and Tris's mouth watered as soon as she smelled it.
"I thought that you would have this on the stove," Tris said, sliding her arms around Tobias's torso from behind. "I love when you cook it."
"Mmm," Tobias turned the stove down, grabbing Tris's arms softly and turning around. He leaned in, pressed a kiss to her lips, and smiled small. "What did you do today?"
They usually did this, over dinner or close to, they talked about what they did at their jobs, what kind of technology Tobias fixed and patients Tris helped. Tris set her hands on the sides of Tobias's neck. "I wasn't feeling good, so Jill sent me home."
Tobias furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you okay? What happened?"
"My stomach was just upset. I threw up a few times. I'm fine now." Tris smiled then, nodding her head when he looked as if he didn't believe her. "I'm fine, Tobias."
Then, a dog whine. Both of them looked down to the dog, who now sat with wide eyes. She could sense they were cooking, and was waiting for Tobias to drop food to her. Tris laughed, rubbing the dog's head before leaning down and pressing her lips to Lila's snout. "No begging, Lila."
