Chapter 5

Ava's POV

          "Recently while my family was in France, my parents seemed to be kind of distant. My dad was hardly ever home, and if he was home it would be late at night or when mom and I were just leaving. Then one day I come home to my mom crying with her hands over her face. I run over to her and ask her what's wrong. And she explained to me how she had just found out the reason for dad not being home." I started to get choked up. Shawn started to play with my hair and it calmed me down and I continued "She said that dad had been cheating on her for a while now. He also was spending mom's money without her consent. That's when she said that we needed to move. All the shit he chose to put my mom through, he put me through it too. And I'm trying to be tough for my mom but it's getting hard. I just needed my friends back." I put my head down and silently cry some more. Shawn all of a sudden stops playing with my hair. Oh great. I thought. Another person that I pushed- I get cut off by him pulling my chin up. Wow I never noticed how pretty his brown eyes were.

          He looks into my eyes and says "It's going to be okay. I'm here. Your dad was a stupid asshole who didn't deserve to have you guys as family. Just remember that you'll always have me. Okay?" I missed having him around so much. I quietly nod my head yes. He pulls me back into his chest and we stay there for a while when he starts to say "Are you hungry yet?" He chuckles which puts me in a better mood. "When am I not Mendes?!" We both laugh and start to get up. He gets in the Driver's seat while I climb into the Passenger side. He turns on the radio and I hear a song that I haven't heard before. But I knew the voice.

          "Oh my God! Shawn!!! When did you pursue your music career?? This song is so good! I've never heard it!!" I'm so excited for him. Ah!! Aw he's blushing! "Well I started on this app called Vine. It's where you can record six second videos of anything. Some people do comedy but I chose to start uploading pieces of covers. A.k.a singing videos. Then Island Records saw one of them and contacted me. They said that they wanted to talk about signing me. And from then on I've become kind of popular as people would say. I don't think I am but whatever." "Shawn this is amazing! Is there anything else you'd like to tell me now?!" A solemn look comes across his face. "Shawnie what's up?" He's kind of scaring me. "Um Ave? I've been invited to join this tour called MagCon. Along with some other people my age. We start off in Dallas, Texas in 3 days."

          My eyes start to fill up with tears. I can't believe I'm losing another person in my life. "Oh. I'm so happy for you Shawn." All of a sudden a wide smile creeps across his face. "What the hell Mendes?" "Ave Ave Ave! What if I can contact Bart, the manager, and see if you could come with!?" "Shawn that would be amazing! But then we'd have to pass it by my mom. And I'm not sure how that'll work out."

Shawn's POV

          Ava started explaining what was happening and it was so hard for me not to cry. I've known their family for so long and I cannot believe that her dad would do something like this. Ave started to get choked up and my immediate impulse was to play with her hair. It calmed her down and she continued talking. What a shitty father. How could he do this to his family. Then Ave finishes her story. I stop playing with her hair and pull her chin up towards me. I look her in the eyes and say with all seriousness "It's going to be okay. I'm here. Your dad was a stupid asshole who didn't deserve to have you guys as family. Just remember that you'll always have me. Okay?" As she silently nods her head I pull her back into my chest and calm her down. We stay like this for a little while and then I ask "Are you hungry yet?" I say and give a little laugh to lighten the mood. It seems to work and she says "When am I not Mendes!?" We both laugh and start to get up. I get into the Driver's seat while Ave climbs into the passenger side. I start the car and turn on the radio. Hey! My song is playing!

          She asks me another question "Shawn this is amazing! Is there anything else you'd like to tell me now?!" And my heart drops. I totally forgot. "Shawnie what's up?" Oh I don't want to lie to her but I don't want to hurt her either. "Um Ave? I've been invited to join this tour called MagCon. Along with some other people my age. We start off in Dallas, Texas in 3 days." Her eyes start to fill up with tears and I instantly regret saying everything, even though it would have been worse off to not even mention it until I leave. "Oh. I'm so happy for you Shawn." I know she's lying but an idea popped into my head and I smile like crazy leading her to ask "What the hell Mendes?" I laugh at her calling me that, I like it a lot. "Ave Ave Ave! What if I can contact Bart, the manager, and see if you could come with!?" THIS WOULD BE AWESOME!! "Shawn that would be amazing! But then we'd have to pass it by my mom. And I'm not sure how that'll work out." I slowly think to myself of a way to convince her mom to say yes. I can't lose my best friend again.
