“Mom please?!”

“Alright, fine, but make it quick ok? You know Lauren, this isn’t really a practical stop.” My mom responded to me.

“You already said yes. Sorry no take backs.” I said to my mom as I ran into Starbucks.  As usual, the line was incredibly long because, well, it is Manhattan and these people live on coffee.  Yes, I do live in Manhattan and yes, I love it so much.  A lot of people don’t understand city life, but that’s only because they don’t know how to manage it.  My mom and I have been living in New York my entire life, so you could say I’ve gotten used to it.  Plus, do you know how many famous people come to this city every day?

“Lauren, make sure you’re ready to order because we don’t need to take extra time at the register.” My mom said, on her phone as usual.  We stood in line for about 20 minutes before either my mom or I said something. "Lauren, look at that cutie up there.  I think he's been staring at you.” My mom said grinning.

“Mom stop!” I say as I nudge her shoulder.  But I did have to agree with her.  Even though I could only see the back of him, he looked like a cutie.  The boy was wearing khakis, vans, and a blue plaid shirt with a white shirt under it.   I studied him from the back, but my fantasy was broken from my mom yelling my name.

“Lauren! Order please we need to get going!” My mom yelled, snapping in front of my face.

“Oh, sorry mom.  Yeah I’ll have a tall mocha Frappuccino please.”

“Would you like whipped cream on that?”

“Of course.” I said back.  What’s a Frappuccino without some whipped cream?

“Lauren you wait in here, I need to take this call.” My mom said as she rushed out of the Starbucks.  My mom is always taking business calls, so it’s not really something new.  She's always been invested in her work, so I've kind of gotten used to doing things on my own.  You know, for a 16 year old, I would say I'm pretty capable of handling myself.  I just rolled my eyes and waited for our coffee.  From across the Starbucks I couldn’t help but stare at the boy in the plaid.  I could now see the side view of him, and let’s just say I liked what I saw.  At one point he glanced over in my direction and smiled, which made me look away from embarrassment.  I probably looked like a total creeper staring him down. The longer I looked at him though, the more familiar he looked, but I just couldn’t place how I knew him.

“Lauren: mocha Frappuccino and French Vanilla latte!” the barista called out.  I got out of my seat and ran over to the counter.  I picked up mine and my mom’s drink and quickly turned around. As I turned around I felt a thud and next thing I knew I was on the ground, covered in coffee.  I looked over to see the khaki wearing stranger had fallen next to me, with my Frappuccino all over his pants.

“Oh my god I’m so sorry!” I screamed, struggling to get up.

“No it’s totally fine.” The boy said laughing.  He reached out his hand and I grabbed it, hoisting myself up.

“Shit it’s all over your pants. God this is awful I'm really sorry. I'm just-” I said to the boy, not looking him in the eye because I was too embarrassed.

“Really it’s fine, don’t worry about it. It’s actually kind of funny.” The boy said.  “By the way, my name is-“

“Lauren! Come on!” I heard my mom yell from the entrance.

“Sorry I uh, I have to go.” I said running away.

“Where’s my coffee?” My mom asked me.

“Just keep walking please. I’ll explain later.” I said, rushing away from the Starbucks.  I was mortified, so naturally I walked away as fast as I could.

We stopped at a street corner and I pulled out my phone to try to clear my mind.  I saw a new twitter notification from Shawn Mendes.  Yes, don’t judge, but I get his tweets sent to my phone because I'm a huge fan of him, and magcon of course.  I slide the notification across the screen to open up twitter. ‘@ShawnnMendes: if any of you guys see me today im just letting you know I didn’t pee myself someone spilled coffee on me lol”

You froze right there on the street corner. “Honey what’s wrong?” My mom said, placing her hand on my shoulder.

“Mom, I just spilled coffee on Shawn Mendes."
