Lauren's POV

I still couldn't get over the fact that I had spilled coffee on Shawn Mendes. Why did it have to be Shawn Mendes? I told my friends, but they didn't believe me. They said that there was no way I had rammed into him because he was at Magcon in California. "No, I know what I saw!" I had told them, but they just thought I was making it up. I just kept telling myself to get over it because what are the chances that I'll ever see him again right?

"Lauren! Come downstairs right now!" My mom screamed from the kitchen. I walked down the stairs, almost scared because she sounded mad.

I walked into the kitchen slowly. "Umm yes mom?"

"I have a surprise for you!" My mom shrieked. She's never been this excited over something before, and I was kind of worried. "We're moving!"

"Wait a minute, what did you just say?"

"I said, we're moving! To Ontario!"

"Ontario, as in, Canada?" I asked and my mom nodded her head. "Wow um ok..." I said a little disappointed.

"Don't be sad honey! It'll be fun," she said looking at me. "Listen, I know it'll be hard to leave your friends and the city life, but this is a really great opportunity for me. It was too good of an offer to pass down." She said putting her arms around my shoulder.

I held back some tears. "Yeah, I understand," even though I hated this, "But, uh, when do we leave?"

"Yeah, well, about that..."

"Mom. When do we leave?" I asked sternly.

"Saturday morning." My mom said quietly. It was Thursday afternoon.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I asked.

"Don't you use that language with me young lady!" My mom said, backing away from me and crossing her arms.

"Well how do you expect me to react mom? I'm sorry but a little more notice would've been nice." I said as I stormed up to my room.

"Lauren we aren't done talking about this!" My mom yelled chasing after me.

"Oh, I think we are." I yelled back, slamming my door and locking it.  I looked around my room.  All the shitty posters, the christmas lights, the pictures of my friends, all had to be taken down.  I lied down on my floor and looked up at the ceiling. I was moving.  Away from the city, away from my friends, away from my comfort zone.

"Alright I think that's the last box." My mom said as we moved into the new house.  This was nothing like Manhattan.  Nothing at all.  "Well don't look too excited Lauren." My mom said.

"Sorry, it's just, it's so different-" I said, only to be cut off by my mom answering her phone.  'Beth Perkins'  she answered and I immitated her behind her back.  I lifted up a couple of my boxes and headed up the stairs.  Just as I had gotten upstairs, the doorbell rang.  I knew my mom wouldn't even budge, so I set my boxes down and ran for the door.  I opened it up to see an older looking woman standing in front of me.  She looked to be about late 30s early 40s.

"Hello!" She said smiling.

"Hi!" I said back.

"You must be the new neighbors!"

"Yes that's us.  My name is Lauren Perkins and my mom is Beth, she's on a business call right now, sorry."

"Oh that's fine! It's so nice to meet you Lauren! I'm Mrs. Mendes." You felt a pit in your stomach.

"Excuse me, uh sorry,  what's your name again?"

"Mrs. Mendes?" She said confused. But I think she got what I was getting at. "Oh let me guess.  You're a fan of my son, Shawn, aren't you?"

I could feel my face getting a bit red. "Yeah, kind of. I mean I've heard of him before."

"Shawn," Mrs. Mendes called behind her, "Oh, he's just in the car wait here for a minute." She said as she rushed to the car.  No, no, no.  This can't be happening.  Hopefully he's forgotten about the whole coffee incident because if he didn't.... "Shawn, this is Lauren!" Mrs. Mendes said. Standing in my doorway was Shawn Mendes, and it just so happened to be that he was wearing the exact same outfit as the day of the incident.  The same khaki pants, that blue plaid shirt and the white shirt.  His hair was pulled back under a gray beaine and all together he looked perfect.

"Hey," he said putting out his hand.  I shook it and he looked at me for a short time, "Wait a minute, do I know you?" He asked me.

"Well, uh," I say laughing awkwardly, " I see you've gotten the coffee stain out of your pants..."

"No way! I knew you looked familiar," he said turning to his mom, "Mom, this is the girl that spilled coffee on me last week in New York. What a small world." He said laughing, which only made my face get redder by the second.  I wouldnt be surprised if it was the same color as my hair by now.

"You still remember her?" she asked, causing him to blush, "You must've made a good impression." She said winking.

"Mom shut up!" Shawn said laughing nervously, putting his arm behind his head, rubbing his neck.

"Yeah well, it was nice of you to stop by but we really need to get finished unpacking..." I said closing the door.

"But Lauren I never met your mo-" I heard Mrs. Mendes say, but it was too late.  The door was closed.

My mom walked in from the living room and asked, "Who was that honey?"

"Oh, uh, just some neighbors," I replied, still shaking from what had just happened, "I'm, uh, I'm going to go unpack."  I said racing up the stairs.  I grabbed my boxes and ran into the room I chose to be mine.  I ran over to the window and saw Shawn and his mom getting in the car. "Only this would happen to me" I said quietly to myself.

Shawn's POV

"That was a little rude don't you think?" My mom said to me as we walked off of the front porch.

"I wouldn't blame her," I said, "I mean, mom, you did make it a kind of an uncomfortable situation." I said to her.

"I did no such thing!" My mom said laughing.  I shook my head in embarrassment and opened up the car door.  Before I got in, I looked up at one of the windows to Lauren's house to see her standing in front of it.  I smiled and waved to her, but she turned around quickly with her curly red hair whipping behind her.  I put my hand down awkwardly and got in the car.  "Lauren's a pretty girl." My mom said as we started to back out of the driveway.

"Eh, I don't know. She doesn't really seem like my type." I said to her.  I didn't want to say anything because if I did my mom would never let me live it down.  Lauren was a good looking girl I'm not going to deny that, but i had a feeling that my personaliy and hers just wouldn't be a good mix.
