Dedicated to Gestonyx
I find my class easily. The big colorful letters reading the number is hard to miss. It's like I'm back in pre-k. I open the door hit by the aroma of pie. A teacher in a pink dress pauses in the middle of her sentence turning to face me. Her blonde hair is beatuiful cascading down her olive tan shoulders. Her blue eyes are electric with life and her pink lips full and plush.
"Morris!" She says ushering me inside
"Come in"All eyes are on me and the whole room is dead silent. I guess I should tell them about me.
"Hi, I'm- -"
"We already know all about you!" The teacher rubs my shoulder affectionately.
I begin to sweat suddenly uncomfortable. They know all about me? How? Half a day here and everyone knows me.
"You do?" I ask tentatively
The teacher taps my nose playfully. She moves behind her desk grabbing a notebook and pencil.
"Here's your school supplies! This is all you'll be needing"
Seriously. I'm pretty sure I get a dramatic list of useless stuff I need.
"This is it?" I ask taking it
The class and the teacher laugh in a monotonous unison. I look around smiling only for it to contort into a grimace.
"Why don't you go sit down" She ignores my question pointing at the kids.
I turn my next task into finding a seat. This is a difficult choice because not only am I sure this will be my permanent seat but I'm going to be seated next to my classwork partner and friend.
All the kids smile up at me with creepy grins hands folded on the desk in front of them.
Ugh, this is going to be tragic. I'm about to sit next to a girl with strawberry red hair and a small green eyes when someone calls me.
"Morris!" I look up shocked by the sudden sound of my name.
Matthew?
I move to the back of the class sitting next to the boy from last night. He has his feet up carelessly on the desk in front of him slumped in his chair. His hair is a mess of blond and brown curls. His dark brown eyes have dark circles from lack of sleep. I let out a sigh of relief as the teacher continues teaching.
"She reminds me of Chrissy from threes company" He says looking directly at me.
"I've never seen it" I open my notebook numbering each page.
"That's all they really watch here" Matthew tells me " anything old from the like 60s or 90s"
"Weird" I tap my pencil trying to regain focus on my numbering but Matthews caught my attention .
"Yeah, I'm happy your here" Matthew clears his thoart
"Whys that?" I ask
"Someone to talk to that's not freakin brainwashed or whatever is going on in this creepy town"
I nod blushing embrasses for no apparent reason.
"So when did you move here?" I ask
"Not too long ago" He answers sounding disgusted "Kathy and her wonderful husband adopted me because she's you know."
"Wait, they aren't your parents?" That explains the lack of resemblance.
A kid in front of us turns around. His thick glasses protrude from his face like goggles.
"I'm sorry to say but you are disturbing my learning" His face twists up " What are you wearing?"
Matthew covers up a laugh while I examine my outfit. Jeans and a t shirt that reads "See The Irony?"
"Clothes" I say trying to sound as nice as possible.
The kid scoffs shaking his head saying, "That is absolutely horrid!"
"Meet Kenneth" Matthew gestures toward four eyes who continues to glare at me.
"Sorry my outfit disgusts you so much but the feeling is mutual" I grit
Kenneth smirks sizing me up and down one last time.
"I like you, kid" Kenneth says catching me off guard. I turn red flustered by the statement.
"Not like that, geez" He laughs.
I laugh nervously. Why isn't he acting all old fashioned and we'll mannered like the rest of these kids? He's acting normal and joking. Smiling.
"Kenneth is like Becca. I'm sure you met her already" Matthew explains "One day they can be like this, the next they are acting all polite and nice and just like everyone in this town"
"Good thing you caught him on a good day" Matthew nudges me smiling.
"That's...unusual" I murmur
"What are you on about ,Richardson" Kenneth spits at Matthew.
"You" He runs a hand through his mess of curls "One minute your normal like this. The next your acting all freaky"
"This again?!" Kenneth rolls his eyes as if bored "I told you I have blackouts"
"That last a day?" Matthew questions
"I told you 'yes' already!" Kenneth explodes "it's a rare result of my PTSD!"
Matthew waves him away looking at me most likely for backup. I shrug not really knowing what to say. Something is going on in this town and it doesn't take a genius to figure that out.
"It's the pie" Matthew leans foward whispering.
"I guessed that," I lean forward nodding.
"Don't let him drag you into his little conspiracy" Kenneth hisses at me.
I ignore him. Ears wide open to hear what Matthew has to say.
"Okay, so everyone offers pie and why? I'll tell you why because the pie is drugged and it brainwashs any one who eats it! Turning them into a...that" He points at some kid in the class.
"That's outrageous" Kenneth laughs " Dont listen to him"
"It's makes sense" I say " all the pie shops ,all the pies I got, the weird behavior and my mom." My voice falters a bit on the word mom.
"Wait" Matthew grins " you mom's here"
"Yeah, Grace Weathers"
"Oh, I'll hit that!" Matthew claps my back "Bet"
"Disgusting" I scoot away from him
"All the pie shops explains nothing! And have you ever heard of a good generous neighbor!" Kenneth counters
"But the whole town!" I exclaim in unison with Matthew.
"Jinx" Matthew punches my arm.
"Ow" I caress my arm knowing it'll bruise later.
That's when I notice the whole class is looking at us including the teacher. My face pales. How long have they been like this?
"Please continue" The teacher sits on her desk, legs crossed.
"Uh oh" Matthew smiles smug turning in his seat.
"Sorry, Ma'am" I turn in my seat as well.
"It's alright, Morris" She stands stalking over to us "But, Kenny and Matthew, I expected better"
"Give me a break" Matthew scoffs
"I'll see you two after class" She smiles running a hand across Kenneths back.
