i saw that the crescent was designed to cross the region of the heart. it would fray the serge of my robe—it would return and repeat its operations—again—and again.

"let's think about this," namjoon said, causing yoongi and a few others to groan in annoyance. 

"what is there to think about?" yoongi grumbled. "we're stuck in a black room with a giant pit and a fucking pendulum. that's literally it."

"no," namjoon moaned in irritation. "there's more to it. obviously, whoever put us in here in the first place had a reason for doing so. it'll be best for all of us if we try to figure out their motives."

"namjoon's right," jimin said, and yoongi made a mental note to add "agreeing with namjoon" to the rapidly growing list of why jimin pissed him off.

"yeah," hoseok nodded, and yoongi rolled his eyes. "it's not like we have anything better to do, anyways."

"we could sleep," yoongi muttered, but no one paid much attention to him. instead, they turned to namjoon, listening for him to start explaining why they were in here. even after only knowing the man for what had to have been a few hours, yoongi could tell that, as much as he hated to admit it, he was quite smart. he had assumed an almost leader-like role amongst the seven of them, as there was a gentle, yet firm kind of control he had established over them.

"okay, let's start with what we know," namjoon said, and yoongi felt his eyes instinctively go and check out the back of his skull. here we go, he thought, with an audible groan.

namjoon shot him an annoyed look, and then continued, "we've all lost our memories, and we only remember everything after the point when we all woke up in a completely darkened room--"

"--at different times," hoseok interjected. "some of us woke up before others did."

"i woke up first," taehyung said randomly, a smug smile crossing his lips.

"no, i woke up first!" jimin yelled, glaring at taehyung. "i remember! i was the first one to talk!"

"no, i coughed, remember? my coughing must have woken you up. i was the first, though," taehyung said, sticking his tongue out at a flustered, fuming jimin.

just as jimin was about to retort, namjoon held up a commanding hand to stop him. "it doesn't matter who woke up first," he said. 

"yes it does," taehyung and jimin mumbled, but both simply crossed their arms and fell silent, glaring at each other from across the room.

"what puzzles me most is how we all randomly fell asleep earlier," namjoon said. "none of us were feeling tired beforehand--at least, i know i wasn't--and yet we all fell asleep within a matter of seconds, and almost all at once, too."

"i'm always tired," yoongi said, yawning, almost on cue. "it's not that unusual for me to randomly fall asleep."

"ah, but namjoon's right," jin said. "we all felt really sleepy at the exact same time. what are the odds of that?"

"so what do you think happened?" jungkook prompted.

"is there someone drugging us, or something?" hoseok asked, his eyes widening.

"i don't know," namjoon said thoughtfully. "there's something screwy going on here," he paused. "and then there's the question of the pit. and the pendulum."

"it's like you said--as long as we steer clear of the path of the pendulum and don't go bungee jumping in the deathly pit, we'll be fine," yoongi snorted. "like i said, you guys are way over thinking this."

"guys--look!" jin suddenly shrieked, and all of them looked up towards the ceiling where jin was pointing. up above them, they saw that the pendulum had lowered another ten feet, now only about twenty or so feet above them. 

gulping, yoongi looked between the faces of his equally frightened comrades.

as namjoon had said, there was definitely something screwy going on here.
