The next day is filled with excitement and nerves. As the five of us walk into the ginormous airport, I start to become nervous. I reach for Dylan's hand and try to calm myself down. I've never been on an airplane before.
"It'll be okay, babe," Dylan tries reassuring me with a hand squeeze. I just nod, afraid that talking will make my panic worse. Eating three of Sylvie's delicious mini chocolate cupcakes, was not a good idea for my stomach.
We get through luggage and security, and I'm surprisingly calm. As we're waiting to board the plane, Sylvie asks us, "Want to go get Starbucks?"
Everyone shouts their orders, and I type them into my phone. "I'll come with you," I tell my best friend.
We start walking towards the Starbucks, and people are scurrying everywhere. "We definitely need to get Starbucks at every park in Disney. Did you know they put little Mickey heads on the cups?" Sylvie exclaims. Sylvie is the only one who has been to Disney before out of all of my friends.
"That's cute, I can't wait," I smile.
Sylvie and I have known each other forever, no exaggeration. Our parents are best friends, so we have been through everything together. Like Mia, she knows exactly what she wants to do with her life. She loves to cook. We became friends with Taylor and Mia in the beginning of sixth grade. Taylor was new to the school and seemed like the perfect new friend. She always brought extra brownies at lunch for Sylvie and I. Taylor met Mia during her first month, and she kind of just became a part of the group.
Mia and I have never truly gotten along as well as I have with Sylvie and Taylor. I think it might be because of our total opposite personalities.
Dylan and I kind of just ended up together because we were always around each other. Don't get me wrong, I love Dylan to death, but it feels like sometimes he purposely gets on my nerves.
By the time we take the drinks back to our friends, our flight is ready to be boarded. We board the plane, and I end up getting an aisle seat next to Taylor. I see Sylvie a couple rows ahead of us, but I don't see Dylan or Mia anywhere nearby. As we begin to take off, I start talking to Taylor to distract myself. We end up joking about how Dylan is annoying sometimes, and I even forget I'm in the air for a while.
I put my ear buds to my ears and start my Disney playlist. The first song that comes on is 'You can Fly' from Peter Pan. I smile to myself and sing along in my head.
Before I know it, we've landed, and are on our way to our hotel. "Look at all of the palm trees!" Sylvie exclaims. We all look out the bus windows and see sunny Orlando, Florida. Palm trees line the road for miles.
"I would move here in a heartbeat, if it wasn't so hot," Mia complains while fanning herself with a brochure she grabbed at the airport. Even with the air conditioning on, it was still as hot as the Sahara Desert.
I truthfully don't mind the heat all too much. Pennsylvania is cold for most of the year, so the hot heat is a pleasant change.
We arrive at Pop Century Resort and check into our room. Basically, every Disney resort has a theme. Pop Century's theme is giant sculptures of toys and Disney characters from the 1950s through the 1990s. Our room ends up right next to an over sized jukebox.
We unpack most of our things, and then try to decide on which park to go to. After some arguing, we make the decision on going to Magic Kingdom to experience the most popular and well known park first. It was only around noon, so we had plenty of time. We find the bus stop and head to Magic Kingdom right away. Once we arrive and get off of the bus, I realize how many people are here.
Huge crowds of people trigger my anxiety. I feel my heart start to speed up as we enter through a small tunnel. I try to hold Dylan's hand to calm myself, but he stops me, "It's too hot for that, babe."
I frown and slowly pull my hand back. We continue walking down Main Street as a parade is going on.
We get out of the way and onto the sidewalk by the shops to watch. Rapunzel and Flynn's float go by and happy Disney music starts to play. I smile and think, this really is the happiest place on earth. The parade goes on and eventually Peter Pan on a pirate ship passes us.
Peter Pan was my favorite movie when I was younger. I can't help myself from acting like a little kid, and wave at him. He sees me and waves back. My heart explodes with happiness. The parade ends and we continue walking until finally we see the castle.
With a more opened area, I feel more safe and relax. "O-M-G, It's so pretty!" Taylor squeals. I smile and nod. Cinderella's Castle was breath taking.
"Let's take some pictures," Mia suggests. Dylan takes the photographer role because he prefers to be out of the pictures.
The four of us take a bunch of silly photos and it feels like the most fun I've had in a long time. Taylor and I convince Dylan to get in some photos, and we take one with me kissing his cheek. Once we finish taking photos, we head towards Tomorrow Land. We watch the show 'The Laugh Floor,' which is a comedy show hosted by the Monsters Inc. characters.
I laugh the whole time and it finally hits me that I'm really in Disney World. When we come out of the show, I start skipping because I'm so excited for what's up next. "Someone's a little happy, huh?" Dylan says to me.
"Well, of course, we're in Disney!" I exclaim while raising my hands to the sky.
"We should ride Space Mountain, It's a really fun roller coaster," Sylvie suggests. We were in the general area of the ride, so it wasn't very hard to find.
"An hour and a half wait? That's so long," Taylor complains.
"Hey, at least it's air conditioned," Mia says as we walk into the dark building. There were only small spots of light throughout the whole waiting line.
Darkness has always been a fear of mine. I don't enjoy not being able to see where I'm going, or what's in front of me. The dark can even set off my panic attacks. I think about holding Dylan's hand as we get closer to the front of the line, but I remember how he's been acting and decide against it. We get to a part of the line where there's a warning sign. It says the normal safety procedures, but then it says "Dark, high speed ride."
So the whole ride is completely dark? I start to hyperventilate thinking about the roller coaster I'm about to go on. I can't do this. Before anyone can ask me what's wrong, I turn around and run out of the closest exit. I end up coming out of the side of the building when the tears start falling. My eyes burn as I try to keep the tears off my face. I can't help the way my body is reacting. I start speed walking to a bathroom, not even able to see clearly. Everything is just a blur when suddenly I run into something or someone, and land flat on my butt.
