HARLEY
The pale moonlight shined against Audrey's face as she laughed, splashing me for the fifth time. I growled playfully, fully aware that we were both very drunk. I know it's stupid to get drunk and go swimming, especially since I can't swim, but I did it anyway.
"We gotta be careful or we will die," I slurred, walking through the water to get closer to Audrey. She wasn't as drunk as I was, which was a good thing, because I basically needed baby sitting at this point. Although it had been an hour since my last beer, I could feel it wearing off by now.
Audrey laughed at my comment, pulling me onto my feet, as I was squatting under the water and struggling to get back up. I giggled, trying to go back under the water but Audrey stopped me quickly. "Don't," she scolded, treating me like a child, although I was acting like one.
I threw my hands up in defense. "Grab me another beer please?" I begged like an infant, causing Audrey to roll her eyes. "No, you've had enough for tonight. Sober up a bit," she said, dipping herself down in the water and swimming forward toward me. She wrapped her arms around me, carrying my weightless body with her as she kicked against the ground and swam.
She did it a couple time before stopping, and just holding still. Friends do this, it's normal.
She looked up at the pale moonlight, and I could see her blueish green eyes illuminating in its brightness. My feet weren't touching the ground, but she held me up and close to her. Her hair fell in front of her eyes as she focused her gaze on the moon, then smiling.
"Are you and the moon having a heartwarming stare off?" I giggled, snapping her out of her trance. It looked like she had been thanking the moon, like I had done earlier. She chuckled, swaying us back and forth.
I laid my head down against her chest, and she immediately began to stroke my hair. "Do friends do this?" I asked, sobering up a bit and realized we were beginning to do things that friends normally didn't do. I could feel her shrug, but she still continued the calming action.
"Sometimes," she mumbled, resting her chin against the top of my head. She began to sway back and forth, as the drunk fun was fading away, and things were getting slightly serious. I could tell that the alcohol had faded away from my system, and things felt boring suddenly.
I wanted to spend all night out here, and it was only midnight. I lifted my head up, abruptly, accidentally bumping my head into Audrey's chin. "Ow, fuck," she cursed, grabbing a hold of her jaw. I couldn't help but laugh. She playfully nudged me, which meant that she had let go of me.
I took her arm away from her chin, wrapping it around me. Her other arm was swaying in the water, and I did the same thing with that arm. She now held me again, looking at me with her eyebrow raised. "What? It's comforting," I said innocently, with a small smile. Audrey shifted her gaze to my shoulder, tracing her finger lightly across the scar on my collar bone.
The action made me shiver, and my shoulder nudged away from her touch quickly. She apologized, but the reminder of how it got there was now on my mind. I would never forget it.
My mother sobbed loudly as I ran to hide, watching my father shatter glass against the kitchen wall. My fragile body shook furiously, and then he began to scream viscously at my mother.
