I fiddled with the strings and played with the tention before letting my fingers glide over them. I just played a quiet song to myself, trying different chords, trying to come up with words in my head. I started to sing quietly not wanting to bug anyone. I pulled the notebook out of my bag that Blake had thrown together. He knows me way to well to have know to add this in. I grabbed a pen off Beths bedside table and started to scribble some words down. It was a song I had thought of for a while but this made it even hit closer to home. I continued to play and decided to practice Drunk on you. I was in the middle of it singing with my eyes closed when a couple of nurses walked in to check on Beth. My eyes snapped open as one of them cleared their throat. I jumped in my chair and just about dropped my guitar. The older nurse with the greying hear smiled at me and she checked the IV leading into Beths right wrist.
"Your really good, all the nurses have been sneeking around the door to get a listen,"
I looked back at her and smiled, "thanks, music is the only thing thats keeping me sane right now."
The younger nurse kept glancing at me as she adjusted another machine that recorded Beths heart.
The older one spoke again, "I can understand, but I mean your really good you should be famous or something,"
The younger one looked like her eyes were going to pop out of her head as she exclaimed, "What, you mean you dont know who he is?"
The older one looked suprised as she shooked her head. The younger one turned as red as her red scrub top as she explained I was Luke Bryan before rushing out of the room, embarressed.
I chuckled as the older nurse shrugged her shoulders as she finished up and walked out closing the door gently behind her. I picked up my guitar once more and started to play Drunk on you. I stopped half way though the song when one of the machines started to beep uncontollably and Beth started to gasp for air. I threw my guitar to the side and grabbed Beths hand as I shouted for help. Several nurses ran in right away with a doctor on their heels. One of the nurses reached for me and said I had to leave the room. She ushered me out and closed the door and the curtain to the window. She needed to be okay. It was killing me not knowing what was going on. My heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest it was beating so fast. I paced the hall way up and down, my boots clicking on the tile floor. Just as I was about to pass her room again the door opened. That was the longest hour of my life. Some of the nurses stepped out and one of the turned around and told me the doctor would be out in a second and would tell me what had happened. I nodded and told her thanks. Like she had said the doctor stepped out in his blue scrubs. He motioned for me to come to the side of the hallway and explained that her pain receptors in her brain had started to work again and he figured her broken pelvis had shifted sending them into overdrive which cause the weird heart rythms so they had given her a stong done of pain meds and some more sedation. I nodded taking it all in. He told me they would be back in a few hours to check in. He patted my shoulder as I turned to walk back in. I sat back down grabbing her hand and sending up another prayer to keep her safe and alive. I grabbed my phone and threw out a few texts to my friends that knew I was up here. I let my parents know I was okay and that I would phone them tomorrow. I sat back in the chair and threw on a hoddie to beat the chill and grabbed my guitar. I started Drunk on you but drifted off to sleep before I was finished.
