Lukes POV
A little over an hour later I rubbed the sleep from my eyes as I followed the tail lights infront of me down the gravel road. We were almost to Beths place. I smiled as I watched her chest rise up and down as she slept with her head rested againt the back of the seat. I turned the radio down a little bit as I noticed Kellys turn lights start to blink in the darkness. I signaled as well as the sign appeared on the side of the road with Beths last name on it as well as a picture of a horse. The movement of slowing down awoke Beth. She licked her lips and blinked as she stretched giving me a smile.
"Home," she whispered.
I smiled back towards her and reached for her hand across the consol, giving it a squeeze. I pulled up infront of the 2 storey stone house before hopping out and running to her side of the truck and helping her out. Allan came and grabbed our bags as I helped Beth up the steps and into the house. The scent of vanilla and cinnamon hit me as I opened the door and looked inside the cozy little house. Beth groaned as her body slumped against me and I helped her over to her couch and layed her down, tucking in a blanket around her.
"Thanks," She said as she smiled up at me.
"How about something to drink," I asked.
"Sounds good, Kelly will you show him where the coffee is?"
I followed Kelly to the back into the cozy kitchen and plopped myself on a stool at the island. She reached into a cupboard and pulled a tin off decaf out and started the coffee maker up. We made small talk when I noticed Allan wasn't in the house and she explained he went out the make sure the horses had enough hay for the night. All of a sudden I felt a wet nose on my leg and reached down to pet the fluffy dog who was the culprit. Kelly told me this was Tig the farm dog. He slowly made his way into the living room and settled right beside Beth on the couch. I laughed as I looked at the scene and brought Beth in her cup of coffee. We all settled in as Allan walked back in the house and went to grab a cup for himself. Kelly flipped through the movie sbefore she settled on some comedy. I had Beths head against my chest on my lap and was running my fingers through her blond waves as she signed deeply. My eyes started to get heavy and the warmth from the coffee ran through me. I pulled the blanket around us tighter and gave her a kiss on the forehead before shutting my own eyes, drifting off to sleep.
Beths POV
I awoke to the sunshine streaming through my own curtains. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and ran my fingers through by hair before throwing it in a quick pony tail. I leaned back onto Lukes chest and listened to his heart beat as I closed my eyes not wanting to get up quite yet but poor Tig had other ideas. He sat up and went over to the door before pacing back and forth. I let out a little chuckle as I slowly swung my legs off the couch and groaned as my stiff muscles protested. Kelly mumbled something as she and Al both started to wake up. All the comotion must have disturbed Luke as he rolled to an upright position and gave me a grin that made my heart pound faster. Poor Tig started to whine as he was still impatiently waiting on someone to let him out. Al and Kelly both got up and said they were going to go out and do the chores and Tig yipped as he darted out the door with them. Luke pulled me in close as he wrapped his arms aroung me again letting my body melt into him. I could hear his stomach gurgle and he announced he was hungry. I agreed with him and asked him for help to the kitchen. He got up and held out his hands, helping me steady myself as I rose and shuffled to the large kitchen. He told me to park it on a chair as he dug through the cupboards. I couldnt seem to stop smiling as he hummed to himself as he poured us cups of coffee and he then continued to rumage through the fridge. He had pulled out everything for bacon and eggs. My parents had left a note on the fridge letting me know they had gone grocery shopping and stocked up on everything. My parents were so good to me. I settled me head into my hands making myself more comfy on the stiff chair. Luke turned around and asked me where my pans were. I pointed to the cupboard under the island and we made small talk about what we were going to do today. Of course I wanted to get back to doing all my normal stuff and Luke put his hands up in the air as I was rambling on.
"How about we take it easy," he said before cracking an egg into the hot pan.
"I guess so, but I need to get some laundry done, and clean this place," I replied back.
He just shook his head and rolled his eyes as he turned back to tend to breakfast. Kelly and Al walked in at that moment and helped themselves to coffee before settling in. They said everything was fine outside and it was actually nice out. I couldn't believe how much it had changed outside in the short amount of time I was in the hospital. The leaves had really changed and were starting to fall.
Lukes POV
The way she had her head cupped into her hands as she was twirling her hair around a finger was driving me wild. I had to turn around so I didn't get too excited. I tended to the eggs I had cracked open and threw the bacon into a pan beside them. This house was exactly what I had grown up in except had Beths more modern touches. She cleared her throat bringing me out of my day dream before telling me all what she wanted to do. I had to convince her to take it easy and to rest and get better. Allans phone started dinging and vibration across the counter top before he picked it up. He announced that there was gonna be a big bonfire that night to celebrate the end of harvest. Beths face lit up as she told us she wanted to go. I warned her the minute she got tired or sore though we were coming back. I finished making breakfast and told everyone to grab a plate. I noticed Beth grimance as she stood. A worried look must have crossed my face as she quickly recovered with an I'm okay as she shuffled behind the island and grabbed a plate. Everyone loaded up their plates and were silent as we filled up. Kelly got up and grabbed all the dishes. I thanked her and she grinned.
"thanks for the food! If it would have been Al cooking I might have gotten a piece of burnt toast!"
I laughed as Al laughed and nodded his head.
"She's right," he admitted.
They both finished loading the dish washer and told us they would see us later at the fire if Beth still felt okay. She got up and hugged them both and thanked them for everything. I took Beths hand in mine and led her over to the couch. I started to rifle through the stack of DVD's and asked what she wanted to watch. I waited for an answer and when I didn't get one I turned around and saw that she had already fallen asleep on the couch. She looked so peaceful. I got up and grabbed a thick quilt off one of the chairs and tucked it around her. She sighed and smiled in her sleep. I traced a finger over her perfect face really memorized by the sprinkle of freckles over her nose, the long eye lashes that framed those baby blues and her plump lips. It was in this moment that I knew I had truely fell head over heels for this girl.
Beths POV
For the second time today I opened my eyes. I yawned as I lifted my arms above my head and stretched out my back. My pelvis was starting to stiffen up and I realized I need to take my pain killers before I got worse. I looked around thankful to be in my own place again and realized how lucky I really was. I craned my head around to see where Luke was but couldn't see him. I slowly raised myself from laying down and got standing. The pain was starting to come in waves now and tears were threatning to fall. I shuffled over to the kitchen counter and popped a coouple of the pills they had given me and grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge before deciding to find Luke. I stopped at the closet and grabbed a thick sweater before going to the front door and letting myself out. Tig met me at the door wiggling his tailess bum in happiness. I smiled as I fluffed the hair around his face and he jumped around playfully barking at me. I could hear music drift across the yard as I wandered down the steps letting the autum air fill my lungs. I knew exactly where he was when Tig started running across the yard. The smell of horses tickled my nose as I pushed the barn door open. I closed my eyes and I could feel a smile spread across my face. Lukes voice softly played in my ears as I could hear him strum his guitar above me. I walked past the empty stalls and up to the stairs that reached the loft. I slowly made my way up them supporting myself on the heavy handrail, trying to be quiet. The door creaked as I lifted it and emerged into the piles of hay. Luke was sitting by the hay door that overlooked the pastures of horses and cattle below. I stood and looked at him, memorized by him and his hands glided over the wood and strings, how he bit his bottom lip when he let his fingers take over from his voice and how when the finally seperated his lips to let his lyrics take over that his eyes would close as he tipped his head down. He drew in another breath and started something I hadn't herd before. I tried to take a step before he saw me but of course being the klutz that I am I just about took a header and at the last minuete caught myself by grabbing a bale but of course this startled Luke and he jumped to my rescue.
