The Adopted Sister

Chapter 1

*2 years later-present time(2012)*

Daniella's POV

"OI WAKE UP SLUT!" my older brother yells at me throwing a bucket of water.

"WHAT THE FUCK SKIP!" I yell at him.

"Mum told me to wake you up," he said smirking.

"YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO THROW WATER AT ME THOUGH!"

"I did though. It's more fun that way."

"Just get out!"

He leaves my room smirking. I check the time. 5:30. Why the fuck would Daniel wake me up at 5:30 in the morning? I get out of bed and grab my phone. It's Friday, September 24th. IT'S JOEL'S BIRTHDAY TOMORROW!

I quickly get out of bed and run into the bathroom. I quickly take a shower and dry my hair. I walk into my closet and change into my uniform.

Before I start doing my makeup, I text Joel really quick.

To: Joel<3
'We're walking together right??? xxx'

He replies almost immediately.

From: Joel<3
'Like we always do. xxx'

I smile. I love how we always put three x's at the end of our texts. As I do my makeup I get another text from Joel.

From: Joel<3
'How come ur up this early??? xxx'

To: Joel<3
'Skip decided it would be fun to wake me up with water at 5:30 instead of at 7 xxx'

From: Joel<3
'Well ima be over in about 2 mins xxx'

To: Joel<3
'Just walk in...just me and Skip...mum and dad left for work already xxx'

I continue to do my makeup when I hear the door open. I hear Skip and Joel talk for a bit. I chose to ignore it and finish my makeup. I then walk out of my closet to see Joel laying on my bed.

"You're on my bed because..."

"Because I want to be," Joel replies.

"Okay." I the go over to my jewelry box on my side table and grab my 'Love' necklace Joel gave me for my 14th birthday.

"Let me put that on for you." He then grabs the two ends of the necklace as I hold my hair out of the way. He connects the chain and I let my hair down. "Well we have about 2 hours before school starts. Do you want to eat out?"

"Sure, just let me grab my bag," I say. I grab my schoolbag and my phone. "Let's go." We both walk out of my room and head to the front door. I grab my house keys out of our key bin. "Skip, I'm eating out for breakfast with Joel. I'll meet you at school," I yell out to Daniel before we leave. I close the door. Before I lock it I hear the Brooks brothers call my name.

"DANI! JOEL!" the three call out.

"Hey Beau. Hey Luke. Hey Jai," Joel and I say at the same time.

"Where are you going?" Beau asks.

"We're going to the cafe to go eat before school," Joel explains.

"What are you guys doing here so early?" I ask.

"Skip told us to come by," Jai said.

"Okay then. Well see ya at school." Joel and I left and started walking. "What cafe are we going to?" I ask.

"It's a surprise. We can drive instead of walk," Joel says.

"Let's drive since I know you're implying that it's not walking distance." We get into his car and start driving. "So tomorrow you're going to be 17."

"Yeah," he says not sounding excited.

"How come you're not that excited?" I ask.

"I don't know." We continue talking until we get to the cafe. "Well, I know how much hate you've been getting recently and I know how much you're bullied at school so I brought you to your favorite cafe," Joel says.

As we both get out of the car I run over to him and give him a hug. "Thank you," I whisper. We make it inside of the cafe. Luckily there was really no one here.

"You go grab a seat and I'll order." I just nod and grab our favorite booth. It's all the way in the back where no one bothers going. It's really unnoticed so no one but us sits here. After about 5 minutes Joel comes with two hot chocolates and two stacks of chocolate chip pancakes. "Here you go," he says handing me my pancakes and hot chocolate.

"Why thank you," I say. We both chuckle a bit before we start eating. We start talking about everything even though we see each other like everyday. "Skatepark after school?" I ask as we finish the last few bites of our pancakes.

"Sure," Joel says. He's been acting a bit off today.

"Joel, you okay?" I ask.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I can tell that he's lying but I can tell he doesn't want to talk about it so i just leave it.

"Well, it's 7 so we might as well head over to school." I nod. We both chip in for the tip since Joel already paid for the food.

"You know you didn't have to pay for the food," I say as we get into the car.

"Well it's my treat," Joel replies. We start driving to school and talk about all of the usual things. "Hey, want to do a cover and put it on youtube after the skatepark?" he asks as he parks his car.

"Sure, might as well since we haven't posted anything on our channel for a while. What song?" I say as we get out and head towards our friends Lana and Andre. Lana is in Year 11 like Joel, and Andre is in Year 10 like me.

"Let's decide at lunch." Right as we were approaching our group, I hear Daniel, Luke, Jai, and James call my name. "You better get to them," Joel says.

"Well you're coming with me." I then grab his hand and take him with me to see what they want. "What do you want?" I ask as we approach them.

"After school we're filming a video for daresundays since we're going to be busy tomorrow. We need you to help is film," Skip says.

"I'm going to the skatepark after school with Joel though," I whine.

"Come on please. Joel can come too if he wants." The four boys kept begging.

"Fine," I say. They cheered as Joel and I walked back to our group of friends.

"Hey," Joel and I say as we finally get to our group.

"What took you so long?" Lana asks.

"Janoskian stuff," I say.

"That's cool. Anyways skatepark after school?" Andre asks.

"Can't. Have to help film with the Janoskians and my cover with Joel," I say.

"Okay." We continue talking until the bell rings signaling that we need to go to our form rooms. We say our goodbyes. Joel and Lana start walking to their form room as Andre and I wait for Clarice to walk over. Clarice is my girl best friend and Andre's girlfriend.

"Hey," she says giving me a hug and Andre a quick kiss. We walk into our form room and make our way to our table in the back. As usual Sophia 'accidentally' drops her bag in front of me to make me trip. She should already know by now that it's not going to work.

We get to our seats and wait for registration to begin.

*few hours later-lunchtime*

Andre and I walk out of our media class and go to the oval where our friends are sitting. We take our usual seats. I sit with Joel. Andre and Clarice are sitting with each other. Lana and her boyfriend/our friend, Justin are sitting together. What makes today different is that I see Daniel, James, Luke, and Jai walking over to come sit with us.

"Hey sis," Daniel says.

"You're coming to sit with me because..." I say.

"Because I wanted to hang out with my sister," he replies.

"No really what's the real reason?" I ask.

"All of our other friends are sick today and I thought it would be nice to be with my sister for today."

"Okay." I just shrug it off for now. We all make room for them to sit with us. I have Joel sitting on my right and Luke sitting on my left. Then its Andre, Clarice, Jai, James, Lana, Justin, and Daniel going from Luke's right to Joel's left. We all remain talking for the rest of lunch.

The bell rings signaling the end of lunch. We say our goodbyes as we head off to our separate classes. I am heading to gym with Joel, Andre, Clarice, Lana, and Justin.

While the boys are talking about their own thing, the girls and I were talking about what was happening during lunch.

"Luke was totally flirting with you," Clarice said.

"No he wasn't," I reply.

"He totally was! You can tell by how he chose to sat next to you!" Lana mentioned.

"Oh shut up." We quickly walk to the locker room and change out of our school uniforms to our gym clothes.

*Few hours later- after school*

I walk out of math class with Joel. Apparently I'm that good in math that they decided to put me in a math class with all Year 11 students.

"I'm just going to grab a few things from my locker. I'll meet you at your car," I tell Joel. He nods and starts heading for his car.

I head to my locker and grab a few of my things. Sophia and her group decide that they would be by my locker today. Such a joy. Note the sarcasm. I ignore their presence and open my locker.

"Look who finally showed up," Sophia said. I kept ignoring her as I continued to put my things into my bag. "You know it's not nice to ignore me like that." I closed my locker and walked away. Before I could escape, she grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me into the bathroom. Once we were in the bathroom she slapped me across the face. "Next time don't ignore me." Sophia and her group then left me there.

I looked into the mirror. This one is going to be hard to hide. I just used my hair to cover the right side of my face. I then make my way towards Joel's car where I see him waiting.

"What took you so long?" he asked. I moved the hair out of my face to show him what happened. After he saw the red mark by my eye he automatically knew what happened. He brought me into a hug and whispered, "I wish I was there to protect you."

"Don't worry. I can stand up for myself." We separate from our hug. We then get into his car and drive home.

"I have my clothes in my car so I'll just change at your house," Joel says. I nod as we get out of his car and into my house.

I run into my room and into the closet. I first head over to my makeup table and look in the mirror. My cheek is still red but not too noticeable. There's a scratch by my eye though. It's small so no one will notice hopefully. I then close the door of my closet and got changed quickly. I decided to wear my 'Love' tshirt and a pair of really light blue shorts. I then put my hair up into a messy bun. As I exit my closet, I see Joel changing. He only was in shorts meaning that he was shirtless.

"Like what you see," Joel teases as he turns around to see me.

"Yeah totally," I reply jokingly. He comes over and throws me over his shoulder. He then runs out of my room and into the living room. After throwing me on the couch, Joel decides to get on top of me and starts tickling me.

"Stop....please...Joel," I say in between laughs.

"Not until you say that you love me and my abs," he says still ticking me.

"Fine. I love you and your abs." He finally stops ticking me and sits next to me. As my breath starts getting normal again, I say to Joel, "Go put a shirt on." He pouts a bit. "Seriously. Shirt on." He groans but heads upstairs to get a shirt on. He comes down back down with his shirt on.

Joel soon gets a text. "Hey, do you want to do our cover another time? I have to go home. My parents said that we're having a family dinner for my birthday tonight since I'm having my party tomorrow."

"Sure. I'll go walk with you home." We both get up and walk over to his house.

As we walk through the door, we are brought into a hug by his mom. She the releases us both. "Hello Daniella," Mrs. Halliee says to me.

"Hello Mrs. Halliee," I reply.

She then turns to Joel and says, "Joel go change. We're going to eat out with family." Joel groans but goes to his room to change. Once we hear Joel close the door to his room, she turns back to me and asks, "You're still coming tomorrow morning right?"

"Yes."

"Okay, I'll leave the key underneath the door. Thanks for keeping an eye out for Joel. He already knows that we're leaving for Japan late tonight, and we know about his party tomorrow."

"No problem. I have to get back home before Daniel gets home though." She nods. After I give her a hug, Joel appears back by the front door. "Bye Joel." I then give him a hug and leave.

I get home and go into the lounge area. The door soon opens, and five boys I know so well walk into the lounge area.

"What took you guys so long? It's 3:35," I ask.

"Detention for us three," Jai said referring to himself, Luke, and Daniel.

"We were starting to think of ideas for our daresundays video," James said referring to himself and Beau.

"Okay then. Well what dare are you going to film?" I ask.

"We actually are not sure," Beau said.

I then came up with a brilliant idea. "Why don't you guys do a more extreme version of the legends challenge. You could do the same challenges, add some, and change some," I say.

"Okay, we'll do it," Beau and Daniel say at the same time.

"Only if you join us," Luke says.

"Sure, I'll join."

We decided on using slurpees instead of milk. We're still doing the 20 warheads, 2 chilies, and the cinnamon packet, but we decided on not using mouse traps. Instead, we're using the ice and salt challenge to show who won. The catch for the ice and salt challenge is that we have to finish 2 cheeseburgers before we can let go of the ice. In my case I'm just eating 2 burgers since I don't like cheeseburgers.

"I'll go get the salt, cinnamon, and ice. Beau and James should get the cheeseburgers and chillies. Daniel, Luke, and Jai should go get the slurpees and the warheads," I say. They all nod and left to go grab what they need to get.

I grab my camcorder and start recording me getting ready.

"Hey guys. I'm getting the salt ready for the salt and ice challenge and cinnamon for the cinnamon challenge."

I grab 12 plastic shot glasses and write the names of who gets which glass. I filled 5 of the boys' shot glasses with salt, but I filled one of mine with sugar.

"I got that idea from watching Oli White and Jack Harries doing the salt and ice challenge. Cheeky Jack."

I then get the cinnamon out and fill all of the glasses with cinnamon. After their all filled, I grab a small cooler and fill it with ice. I then stop recording and put the camcorder away.

5 minutes soon passed and all of the boys were back. We packed all of the things we need for the challenged and the tripod an camera and made it to the location for daresundays. By the time we got there it was just past 4.

Skip got the tripod ready as the rest of us got the stuff set for the challenges.

They take their positions as I go over to the camera and press record.

"Hey guys we're the Janoskians and today we have a special guest," Beau says.

Daniel then comes and drags me to the front of the camera.

"We have a mini Skip," Beau say. I look over to Daniel who just nods. I then hit Beau in the balls. He then falls down in pain.

"You really are a mini Skip," Luke says. I start walking over as he covers his balls with his hands. "Nevermind. You aren't like a mini Skip."

I smirk and get back to my position. I look to the camera and say, "Hello my name is Dani, and I am Skip's adopted sister."

"That's why she sounds American," Jai says.

Beau is now up and says what we are doing for the video. "Today we are doing the extreme legends challenge. You have to drink two liters of slurpee, eat 20 warheads, two chilies, and one shot glass of cinnamon. You can do that in any order. To show who the winners are, the first to eat two cheeseburgers while doing the salt and ice challenge wins."

"Ready. Set. Go," I say.

I start off with the cinnamon challenge while the rest do the warheads first. Beau and Skip start throwing up after the chilies. James is out after drinking half of the slurpee. It's just me, Luke, and Jai left. I was starting the salt and ice challenge as the other two are just finishing their slurpees. I put the full shot glass of 'salt' aka sugar and put an ice cube in my hand. I then take a burger and start eating it. I hear the twins complain on how it hurts and how they're about to throw up. The twins throw up at the same time I finish both my burgers.

"I guess I win!" I yell in excitement.

"How did u do that? Didn't the salt hurt?" They all asked.

"Nope, but you should let me edit the video."

They all nod as we stop recording. We all make it back to mine and Daniel's house. I finish editing the video by 7:30. I included the bit I filmed at the beginning of the video.

"Do you want to see the video?" I ask the boys. They nod and crowd around me to watch. As they watch the beginning they all have shocked faces.

"You cheated!" Beau yelled.

"Are you sure? I could have mislabeled the cups since I did it after I filled them up." I smirk knowing they can't argue back. "You're right though. I knew I had sugar."

Just then Jai takes my laptop as Luke grabs my phone out of my pocket. James and Daniel each grab one of my legs as Beau grabs my arms. They run out to the back and throw me into the pool.

"WHAT THE HELL!" I scream as I emerge from the water.

"That's what you get for cheating," James said smirking. They all run inside and lock the door.

I then get out of the water and start shivering. I keep knocking on the door. "Let me in!" I scream.

"Are you going to kill us?" they ask.

"What do you think?" I ask sarcastically. Daniel then throws a towel at me.

"You need to dry off first," he says. I just walk around to the window of my room and climb in. Thank God that my house is one story. I go and lock the door to my room and run into my bathroom. I decide to take a quick shower. Once I'm done with my shower, I run into my closet and change into a tank top and shorts. I put my hair in a long ponytail and then head for the lounge area.

"I will get you guys one day," I say.

"Aww, will you not kill us if we make you food?" Daniel asks.

"But it has to be either Luke or Jai. I don't trust the rest of you with making food."

Luke and Jai both get up and head for the kitchen.

*few hours later*

The boys all were passed out in the lounge area. I was in my room finishing my doing my 'Happy Birthday Joel' artwork on one of my walls. Once I finish I cover it up. It's 11:45 by the time I finish so I head towards my bed. I hear a tap at my window so I go see who is by my window.

I pull my curtains back to see Joel standing there. I open my window and he climbs in.

"I was standing out there for 15 minutes," Joel said.

"Sorry. I was doing something on one of my walls."

"It's okay. I was just going to stay here for a bit. My parents left 45 minutes ago."

"Do you want to stay the night here? It's just so you're not alone," I ask.

"Sure, just let me go grab my stuff."

When he comes back, we close my window and both lay down in my bed for a whole and just talk. I check the time. 11:58.

"It's your last moments of being 16. Are you excited?"

"Yup. The thing that makes this the best is that I'm spending my last minutes with you."

11:59. I grab him and drag him up to my covered art wall.

"What is this?"

I ignore him and look at the time. Midnight. I remove the cover from my art wall to reveal the 'Happy Birthday Joel' sign with a bunch of pictures of us and paintings of his favorite things. "Happy birthday Joel," I say giving him a hug.

He hugs back. "Thank you." We the separate from our hug.

We then make our way back over to my bed and climb in.

"Good night Joel."

"Good night Dani."

We both then drift off to sleep. Before I was fully asleep I heard Joel whisper, "I love you Dani."
