Scott sighed as he laid next to his husband in their bed, gently pressing their lips together as he moved the sheets up to keep Mitch warm.

"It's only for a few months, I promise. Everything will be okay." Scott whispered assuringly to the sad brunette. "Just- promise me you'll be safe." Mitch whispered softly. "Always. I'll be home before you know it. And I'll call when I can, and send letters." Scott smiled softly. Mitch nodded sadly and gently pressed his lips to Scott's again. "Promise me you'll be safe too." Scot mumbled against his lovers' lips. "I promise." Mitch whispered.

The next morning, Mitch watched Scott board a plane, missing his husband the second he was out of his sight. He waited ten minutes after the plane left before heading home.

Mitch didn't know what to do with himself aside from wish that Scott was alright. The war in Afghanistan had been going on for so long, what if he never came home?

He didn't want to think like that, but the thoughts just came so naturally. He had to keep himself positive for not only his sake, but Scott's. If Scott called and Mitch showed doubt, Scott might not have the will to do this.

Scott only ever wanted to protect and serve his country. He just thought the army would be best. This is his second time being deployed, and the first time he was looked up to by so many new comers due to his bravery.

His platoon was on their way to a small town in Iraq when they hit a land mine. The trucks in front and behind Scott's were blown up before they took heavy fire. Scott risked getting shot to help a badly injured man barely alive in one of the cars calling for help.

He disobeyed direct orders to fall back to help a man that survived where the only damage to his body was a broken arm and a sprained ankle.
