"Cam?" Kasey said shaking me awake, "Cam we need to talk to you." My eyes widened as I looked at her. Her eyes were bright and her hair held no knots. She was entirely polished and clean, as if she was a Kings daughter. "Kasey what are you doing here I thought-"
"No," she said cutting me off. "We are doing the talking here." After that statement I looked around at my surroundings. I was in a concrete room, there were no doors, no windows, nothing.
Then I looked over at the people. Kasey and I were not alone. Behind her was my whole family. My father, mother and sister.
But this made no sense, where was I?
I looked back over at Kasey and she took my worried look as a chance to start what she wanted to say.
I waited for her patiently as she motioned for my family to stand next to her. She then looked back at me and said "stand up" so I did.
I stood up and was soon face to face with the girl I left behind, abandoned and searched for.
"Kasey.. I'm so sorry, I-"
"No," she repeated "I do the talking, we will do the talking." She politely pointed to my family who all stood up straight in unison.
I talked no more.
"What are you doing here?" She asked me, "why did you come?"
"What do you m-"
"Shh" she replied, "I do the talking"
I nodded.
"Why did you come to Omaha? To feel what it's like to be in the future?"
I swung my head from side to side without saying a word.
"That's why they all come.. and you, why are you here?"
I kept my mouth shut, looking at her before finally speaking.
"I came to find you."
"Yeah right.." she said turning her head. "If you really cared you would be searching for us right now.
She looked over a my parents and my father began to speak, "Cameron I thought you were better than this" he said, "I thought you would never stop fighting"
"But it seems like you have.." my mother cut in. "Why don't you try? Why don't you search for us?"
"I am mum, dad! I promise!" I exclaimed running over to them but I couldn't get to them. Something was stopping me, a barricade or a clear wall.
"Mum, Dad please!" I yelled at them while I leaned up against the invisible wall.
Tears streamed down my face as I watched them, so desperate and alone. They felt forgotten, they all felt forgotten.
It was all because of me.
I looked down at the concrete ground and watched my tears hit the floor silently.
"Cam?"
My head turned at the sweet voice of my sister. I looked at her, with my eyes red and full of water. I didn't want her to see me like this. She depended on me. She needed me, especially Right now.
She was leaned up against the wall right in front of me. I looked at her and said "I'm sorry Fay, I'm so sorry."
But she just sat there waiting for the right time to speak, and when she did nothing in the world was clean anymore. "Why did you forget us?" She cried, and I instantly responded,
"I DIDN'T FAY! Please Mum, dad, Kasey! I don't forget you! FAY, I didn't forget you!"
She didn't seem to understand. I didn't forget her. She was in the most tender place of my heart. She was my sister.I couldn't handle this anymore.
"Please, please listen to me," I cried quietly on the ground. My feet gave out from underneath me and I fell to the concrete. "Please, I didn't forget you!"
Suddenly a loud deep voice interrupted my weeping and it spread throughout the small room I was in. "Cameron, Cameron wake up."
I looked around the room one last time before I was swept out of the strange void, and into the world of reality.*************************
"Cameron?" Grayson spoke as he shook me awake. All I remembered was every bit and every spoken word of the dream. My surroundings were temporarily oblivious.
When I looked around I saw that my bed was a soaked with tears and my pillow had fallen to the ground.
When had I fallen asleep in this bed? My only memories were of the dream and nothing else.
"I need to go" I stated without explanation and I stood up slowly. My back and feet hurt like fire from the restless night, but I needed to leave. Nothing could get between me and my family.
"What? Cameron where will you go?" He demanded but I just walked to my backpack silently. "Cameron!"
"That's not for you to know!" I exclaimed wiping my nose with my sleeve, "I just can't stay here."
Grayson sighed as I packed up my things and he suspiciously looked around the room. I looked over at him with an eyebrow raised but then returned my concentration to my packing.
Soon after I heard footsteps and noticed Grayson by the door. He had my shoes and socks in one hand along with the door nob in the other.
I picked up my backpack zipping it up and then put it securely on my back.
"What are you doing?" I said annoyed as he tightened his grip on the knob.
"Don't leave," he said
"since when do you care what I do?" I said walking over to him.
"I don't," he said.
I rolled my eyes dramatically and then tried to pull the doorknob from under his hand. "Tell me where you're going."
"It's not important" I replied working on the doorknob. "MOVE YOUR HAND!"
"NO, you aren't leaving until you tell me what's going on!"
I sighed and let go of the door. "Fine" I said waving my arms in the air.
He watched me as I walked over to his small brown couch and sat down. He quickly followed and sat next to me waiting for details. He was confused, but not as confused as I was.
For some strange reason, I felt like the dream was real. Like it had really happened and Kasey really thought I had abandoned her and my family.
But I would prove them wrong, either real or not.
I didn't want to tell Grayson anything, but he was one of the most trustworthy people I had ever met. We had only known each other for one day, but he already was concerned about my feelings and whereabouts.
He deserved to know, and I knew he would help me.
"I have to search for something" I said generally.
"What are you searching for?" He asked, "something important?"
"Very important" I replied bowing my head, nothing was more important than my family.
It was quiet for a while before Grayson surprised me with his statement.
"You're searching for someone."
I quickly raised my head. My glance shot directly at him, amazed at how well he could read people.
"Yes.." I said sighing,
"I will help you," he exclaimed standing up, "you can't go out alone."
I smiled at him with appreciation. He knew the city, and I trusted him. I knew he would help me find my family.
"Thank you" I said, "but are you sure? What about Davis and your mother."
He widened his eyes questioning himself when Davis walked in.
"I'm fine" he said with a thick cast holding up his arm.
"DAVIS!" I exclaimed excitingly running over to him. I stopped in my tracks when he shot a dirty look towards me, and my face turned beat red.
"Uh.. Davis you're okay" I said smiling but keeping my distance.
"Yeah I'm good," he replied with a proud smile, and I rolled my eyes at him turning away.
"Davis you're not fine, you literally got shot last night, please, you can't come with us," Grayson budded in,
"Sure I can! I'm fine, see I feel no pain" he said slapping his cast with his other arm. I tried to stop him but he hit himself hard so instead I exploded with laughter.
"AUUGHHHHH!!" He screamed in pain while I fell to the ground with laughter.
He was honestly the stupidest person I knew.
Grayson joined me and we both cried at his negligence.
"Oh shut up" he said shaking his hand.
He then picked up a bag and headed to the door. I rapidly changed emotions and became serious. I turned to Grayson and took my shoes and socks from his hand.
I put them on my feet, and Grayson stood up beside me. "I'm going to help you find whoever you're looking for" Grayson said with pride "there's more than one person" I corrected "but I'm happy to see you're so confident."
I stood up as well and was soon face to face with him. It was quiet and I blushed, but I vastly changed the subject and focused my gaze on something else. "We should go," I said, "I need to find them."
He then took me by the chin and pulled my sight back to him. "We will find them, I promise. I know what it feels like to lose someone."
I smiled at him and then walked towards the front door. "I'll tell mama we're leaving, hopefully she'll understand," Grayson said as he walked into another room.
I smiled at myself and then placed myself beside Davis. My family would not be forgotten.
