We rode for a while on the wagon, almost an hour. I watched the building in front of me as it grew and grew in size. My heart was beating faster every minute.
I didn't feel uneasy I felt excited. I knew the future may not come with flowers but I accepted my fate.
I needed to save my family, even if it meant my life would be taken in the end.
Finally we reached the building and I sat up tall. My back was straight and my spirits were high.
"We're here" Grayson said.
"I know" I replied smiling. He smirked and turned back to the road.
We rode through the front gate easily. Our uniforms were identified to be enough, and we kept our faces straight as we trod through.Grayson nodded towards the guards as we passed them and they nodded back. I just sat there watching everything unfold. I didn't want to ruin anything.
The long gravel road we had been on from the city to the building had ended and it slowly merged into a sleek cobblestone road, fit for a king.
I stared down at it wondering why anyone would need such things to show their power. The building was over done as well.
The windows sparkled with its daily cleaning, and the bricks that made up the walls were spotless.I wondered how many people the mayor slaved to get this done everyday. To keep his home clean and shining.
"How rude is this mayor?" I asked
"What?" Grayson responded confused
"Look at the windows, the bricks, everything! It's spotless. The mayor must've slaved a thousand people to do this job"
"First of all its 'mayors' and-"
"Wait there's more than one? How does that work?" I asked
"I don't know" he responded
"Weird."I then stared up at the tall building that rested above me. I saw thousands of windows, the brand new red bricks and guards by every window.
Then we arrived at the stairwell that lead to the door.
I looked up the stairway in anticipation, and I saw two guards who were strongly armed standing at the top.
"Okay, let me take care of this" Grayson said as he hopped out of the wagon.
"I know, i know" I responded, rolling my eyes.I jumped out of the wagon as well and lead the ten citizens of my village to the front door behind Grayson.
"Hello we have been requested by the mayors to deliver these people to their confinement," Grayson stated.
The guard stroked his chin and Grayson sat there with a face straighter than a ruler.
"Alright." The guard said, opening the doors for us to go through.I sighed and looked at the ground quickly before raising my head again.
I rapidly followed Grayson inside but the guard at the door stopped me.
"And who are you?" He said staring me in the eyes.
"I'm.." I said thinking.
"She's with me" Grayson said, quickly. The guard looked at Grayson who stood behind the doors waiting for me and then return his strong gaze to me.
"Give me your name"
"Ok sure.. I'm... Hayes" I responded quickly and without thinking.
"Well, Hayes.. you can wait here" the guard said.
"No, I need to go with-""You will wait here"
I sighed and looked at Grayson. He quickly mouthed something to me but I could only deceiver "knock"
I raised my eyebrow and he frowned. 'Knock him out' he repeated and I laughed.
The guards looked at me confused, "sorry" I said before punching him in the face.
He fell to the ground knocked out and Grayson took care of the other guard.
