Edd and his mum arrived at home as his mum was organizing things. "Mum? Do you think I could get some new art supplies? It's a little expensive."
"How expensive are we talking here sweetie?" She turns the chair around. "It's a pack of colors and a sketchbook for £60?" He shows her the phone.
"Didn't you get some colored pencils for Christmas?" She sighs looking at his phone. "Y-Yeah, but they are as good quality, I um, I just wanted to know."
"Edd, you know we can't spend a lot of money on other things, now, you can't get it at this moment, but maybe later this month? Because-"
"I know, I know, medical bills, house payments, food, the other bills, I know," he sighs, looking at the floor. "I'm sorry sweetie, look, how about I get you a new sketchbook?"
"No no, it's fine, I'll um, just keep using the one I have now," he smiles reassuringly trying not to show how disappointed he was. "Maybe ask Ell? She has some other art supplies."
"She uses markers and I like colors."
"Oh that's right, Edd I'm sorry about that."
"Mum I said it was fine! Don't worry!" He smiles. "Can I go over to Tom's house for a little bit?"
"Sure thing, just be back before nine, it's already eight thirty," she smiles turning back to the computer. "Okay! Thanks!" Edd quickly puts both shoes on.
"Please be careful okay?"
"Yes mum, I know, love you!" He walks out the door, closing it, as he starts to walk to Tom's house, and up the sidewalk, ringing the doorbell, Tom's mum opening the door.
"Hello Edd! Tom's in his room, do you want to come in?
"Yes, if that's okay," he nods as she lets him in walking up the single step. "He should be in his room, let me know if you boys need anything," she smiles as Edd goes to Tom's room, knocking on the door. "Guess who?"
"Edd? Hey! What are you doing here?" He opens the door. "Wanted to come over! Ell came over to see Tam, so I was like, why don't I come over to see mine?"
"Um, well what do you want to do?"
"We can prank our sisters? I don't know," Edd smiles. "Well they're upstairs, doing whatever they do."
"So, we can just talk? I don't know, oh yeah, and tomorrow we're all meeting up at my house," Edd sighs as they walk into the room, Tom's room was surprisingly clean, nothing on the blue walls, and a shelf of books, both text and Braille, the bed in the small intent in the room, walls on both sides, and only one chair. "Again? Why can't we just come to my house? It's a lot easier, at least for me."
"Well, maybe next time? I don't even know what our parents talk about while we are doing, well whatever we're doing," Edd sighs, plopping onto the chair. "You sure do sigh a lot Edd, anyways, they probably talk about whatever's going on with us, my vision, your leg and back, Tord's arm and leg, and Matt."
"Just Matt? Oh boy, seems exciting!" Edd smiles putting his hands in the air, exactly like Matt does. "You know what I mean," Tom laughs and smiles back. "Yeah, I know, did Tord text you? About him being fit to have a prosthetic."
"Oh! Yeah, he's also getting the fore arm crunches for a little bit, well, he told me maybe, if his parents could find a way to afford it, he also said he used them in rehab," Tom sits on his bed leaning back slightly. "Do you find it weird all of us have a disability, or whatever? Sometimes I feel bad about it?"
"Well, my sister and yours were friends a couple weeks before we meet, after we moved it, Tord came later, and Matt, he's just really friendly," Edd makes a nervous laugh. "I mean, like, we all have different problems, but we understand? Like, you know what I mean."
"Yeah I get it," Tom replies, rubbing his head. "So, do you want to go prank our sisters or not?"
"Well, what what would we even do? Like, do you know who your sister likes?" Tom cocks his head slightly. "No I don't, you know your sister's?"
"Nope, um, maybe I can write a love note to her, and you can say that it was in the mail."
"Yes, let's do it!"

~Around ten minutes later~

"Okay, here it is, go give it to her, hehe," Edd smiles handing Tom the note, folded, and in an envelope. "Okay. Hey Tam! You got mail! Tamara!" Tom opens his door, Tam running down the stairs to grab the note.
"Who's it from?" She looks at her brother taking the note. "Nope, no clue, sorry, tell me when you read it, I wanna know what it's about," Tom smiles. "You're a weirdo."
"But I'm the best older brother you're ever going to get."
"Whatever, thanks for the mail," she laughs walking back up the stairs. "I'm bored, do you want to go on a walk or something?"
"Sure, let me ask my mum," Tom grabs his white cane from off the hook, and his sunglasses from the table. "Mum! Can Edd and I go on a walk?!"
"Just be home before sunset!" She yells back from her office, Edd and Tom heading out, taking the side walk, glad that it was actually on the wider scale for sidewalks. A few cars drove by, and one of them, Edd noticed the kids staring at Edd and Tom as they kept walking.
He makes a grumbling noise, Tom picking up on his annoyance. "Edd, you okay?"
"Staring, like, you know what I mean, it just feels uncomfortable," Edd groans again as Tom stops walking. "Well, we're just as human as them, aren't we? So, just don't let it get to you," Tom smiles as they start to walk again, reaching the neighborhood's playground. "I remember when I used to be able to play on these."
"I don't think I ever did," Edd sighs before they walk around on the walk path.
"So, I don't remember you ever mentioning to Tord you used to be in a wheelchair, why having you?"
"Well, more because of the fact, my incident happened when I was so young, and could barely walk, my walking was well, really really delayed, I don't think that would help him really."
"Oh, well, wait, crap, Edd are we going on the walk path back to our house or are we going away from it?"
"We're fine, we are going in the loop back to our houses, it's fine," Edd assured Tom as they kept walking. "Mummy what's that?" A little kids points at either Edd's crushes or Tom's cane. "Jordan! You do not point! That helps! Sorry!"
The two both smiled as they kept walking. "So, weird question, did you, or your mum consider amputation? I mean, like, just-"
"We did actually, but the doctor said it would be unnecessary, at least for where I am now, so, that's where that came from," Edd adjusts his grip on his crutches. "Oh, okay, pff, sorry," Tom mutters hitting his cane on a pole.
"Opp, there's a pole there," he moves over slightly moving away from it. "Heh, remember the first time I meet you, you literally ran into a pole."
"My vision wasn't even that bad then," Tom laughs, remembering the memory. "Your sister flipped out though, she was like, going crazy."
"That's when she would baby me all the time," Tom snarks, before sighing, "my mum still does it."
"Trust me, I know. She made a doctors appointment, just to look at my foot from a fall, it was a bruise!" Edd laughs at his mother's overprotectiveness. "Trust me, I may accidentally run into something, and she goes full nurse mode, like, it's embarrassing especially in public!"
"It's enough with people staring isn't it? I don't think people see how uncomfortable that makes us feel. I just, it makes me want to just hide," Edd smiles and laughs, Tom blushing slightly. "I don't care if I can't see that well, I can still feel the eyes on me, or worse, when they stare at my mum, my dad, or my sister, trying to find out what's wrong with them."
"One kid even asked my sister, 'why does he need those, what's wrong with him', she just laughed off as we kept walking, let's just say, she found it probably just as awkward as I did. I mean, seriously," Edd scratches his head, putting it back in the cuff.
"Well, I was five or six when the car crash happened, and I didn't start losing a lot of my vision till last year, when I started the cane, I'm, not used to it, somehow."
"I was two, so it's basically all I've know so, I'm used to it. I mean I understand being curious, but it's just that look, like they're trying to find exactly what's wrong with me."
"Yeah that sucks. Like, then people are all like, 'Oh! I'm so sorry!' Dude, it's not your fault, I don't even know you," Tom laughs as they reach back to the front of the neighborhood, walking up to Tom's house, opening the door. "Ell! We should get home," Edd looks at Ell, just sitting on the couch.
"Okie, lets go, bye Tam," she waves as Edd and Ell go home, and eat dinner.
