Tori and Tord sit quietly at the dining table staring at each other with an upset look on each of their faces, eating lunch, røke laks, or smoked salmon as everyone else would call it. "Vil du slutte å gi hverandre stankøyet(Will you stop giving each other the stink eye)?" Thief papa looks at the two as they nod, starting to eat, not saying a word. "Kids, you have to talk to each other."
"Ikke-"
"Torianna, jeg forstår at du ikke akkurat hadde den beste opplevelsen med dine fødselsforeldre, mangler det et bedre ord, men det betyr ikke at du kan behandle din bror slik(Torianna, I understand you didn't exactly have the best experience with your birth parents, lack thereof a better word, but that doesn't mean you can treat your brother like that)," their father sighs, staring at the two. "Ja pappa," she sighs. "Kan jeg bli unnskyldt(May I be excused)?"
"Ja," her papa nods, Tori placing her plate in the sink, heading up to her room. Closing the door, looking in her mirror. "Eight years? And yet it still hurts," she mutters, pushing the hair out of her face. She traces the small scar on her forehead, her mom dropped a glass cup on her forehead. "I don't know why I can't see they're gone, and I'm here, and they care," she mutters. "I'm fine," she laughs hugging herself, feeling the scar on her left arm, mom burned her with boiling water after she asked to have something else for dinner. "Tori? You okay?" Tord knocks on the door. "Ja," she calls out. "Door's open."
"You okay? You haven't been acting like yourself recently," Tord shoves his hands in his pockets, looking at his sister. "Um, I'm fine," she mutters. "Tori, what's up?"
"I said I'm fine, I just finished my lunch and wanted to hang out in my room, you got a problem with that?"
"No, I just, Tori, you're my sister. I don't care if your blood, or not, I don't care, I'm still going to care about you what's going on?" He sighs, cocking his head slightly. "I'm just thinking, as I already told you, Matt's back. He was treated worse than I was, I started thinking about how there's kids who are suffering like I was, and it just, it just breaks me."
"Oh. Just to make sure, it's-"
"No, it's not about me. Tord, you've been through rough times, with your arm and leg, and then Matt going missing, you have to understand where I'm coming from with this."
"I-I think I get it, yeah," he scratches his head. "Like, I was able to get out of it. And I was so scared it was going to happen again. I was seven, right?"
"Yeah, and I was four," Tord looks at the ground. "I'm fifteen and I just want to do something," she sighs, running her hand through her hair. "Um, well, er-"
"Spit it out Tord," she looks up. "Well I don't know. Tomorrow is Tom's birthday, and him being my friend and all, I've basically been stuck on what to get him."
"Get him some bandanas for Mandy," she shrugs. "Sorry I kinda ruined the moment," he chuckles. "Eh, it's fine."
"I looked up want to get a blind teen, and most of it was expensive or something Tom wouldn't like," Tord mumbles. "What has he shown interest in?"
"He was really interested in getting a guide dog, on the chat it's all he talked about," Tord smiles softly. "Well, you can get him the bandanas, as I said, wait, didn't he used to play bass?"
"Yeah, but he quit, why?"
"He can still play, I don't know, I'm just throwing out ideas."
"When I looked up the stuff, Bop It!™ was a very common thing, but Tom doesn't seem interested in it," Tord shrugs. "As I said, bandannas," she smiled softly. "Fine, we can go to the-"
"Nope, I used to collect them," she stands up, walking to a drawer, pulling out if you bandannas, dumping them on her bed. "Here, pick one,"
"Damn Tori, what else are you hiding?" Tord laughs. "I guess the blue, the white, and er, the black?" Tord grabs them and looks up, "I can get a gift bag from downstairs."
"I don't know if he's having a party or what, probably not," Tord shrugs. Tori's phone starts ringing. "Give me a sec, hallo?" Tori answers. "Oh. No, we weren't planning- okay, um, yeah I'll ask my pa. No Ell, I can't drive yet, okay, yeah, alright, bye," she hangs up the phone. "They're going to visit Matt, and Edd and Ell said you should come as well."
"Oh, er, right now? That seems weird.."
"Look, Matt's your friend, right? I don't know the extent of his condition, but maybe you should visit him?"
"Let's just ask Papa," Tord mutters.
