Putting together baby furniture is a pain in the ass, it's tedious, monotonous manual labor. Stevie's due in three weeks, and she's gone into what her mother has been calling her "Nesting period". That means she's preparing to be isolated inside the proverbial "Nest" to care for our baby. "Linds, don't forget to put together the play table!" grumbling I insert another wooden dowel into the changing table "Yes dear!". Ginny, is curios so she sits next to me on the floor watching as I slave away "You were easier" she looks at me as if to say "Duh" then lays down.

"I've got the shelves ready Lindsey, where do you two want them?" Jess showed up about a half an hour ago with Bob and Brian. The three of them are delivering the rest of the bedroom furnishings, Bob's arm is doing better and he's as good as new. His cast came off, and other than his forearm being shriveled from atrophy there's no lasting damage.

Holding her belly with both hands Stevie walks in "That goes there" she gestures toward the far wall and the guys set to work fixing the room up. "Sweetheart you're supposed to be in bed. You know what the doctor said" standing I take her hands "Lindsey..." exasperated she closes her eyes furrowing her brow "Lets get you back in bed" Jess chuckles, shaking his head "You're just like Mom was TeeDee. She couldn't be told to sit down and relax during either of her pregnancies".

In our bedroom I prop her up on sea of pillows "My journal-" her hand reaches for her beloved diary and I hand it to her from its perch atop the vanity "Now stay put, I've got this under control. Your mothers got lunch taken care of, and I'll fix your supper" she takes my hand squeezing it. "I love you, have I told you that today?" shaking my head I kiss the back of her wrist, then her hand "Only about a million times" her eyes light up in amusement "Well here's a million and one."

The phone rings, pecking her on the mouth I answer the phone near our bed, sitting next to Stevie with my arm around her. "Hello? Oh hey Al" Wonsley squeaks in his office chair greeting me with his trademark exuberance "Say how's Stevie? Ready to pop no doubt" I kiss her hair and she smiles "Hey Al!" she yells and he laughs "So, I got some great news kid. Warner wants to loan you to United Artists. They want you to arrange the title track for the new James Bond movie. They're gonna start shooting in April of next year but they're working on the soundtrack and incidental music." My face breaks into a grin and I stand up "That's amazing!" I can't believe they want me to work on a movie. James Bond even!

"I knew you'd be thrilled! We're going to meet the head honchos in London next week, and you'll be working in their studio" Next week? London? I can't leave Stevie here she's about to give birth, but how can I turn this down. Knowing this industry, that'll be stacked against me along with my reputation for being difficult. "Al, you know Stevie's due soon. Can't they postpone it, or let me work on it from here?" I hear exasperation in Al's voice as he leans against his desk "No can do kid they want it done ASAP. I can tell them you turned it down-" Stevie's hand grabs the receiver before I can thank him and decline "He'll be there, but I want him on the first plane back the second I go into labor got it?"

Astonished I take the phone when she hands it back "Well it's settled then! Stevie you're an angel, I'll call you in a few days Buck" the phone disconnects and I put it back on the cradle "Steph I can't go to England, what about you and the baby?" her journal sits open in her lap as she pulls my mouth to hers "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity Babe. I don't plan on popping out this little one unless you're there with me. So do me a favor play nice across the pond and hurry back"

"Steph are you sure?" I'm of two minds about this, on the one hand this is a literal dream come true, I love those movies I've been to all of them at least a dozen times. Stevie knows because I took her to the last one six times, but on the other hand this close to her due date I want to be here with her, I want to be here for our baby's first breath in the world "I trust you to do a good job Linds, which means no arguing, no tantrums, and taking people's advice when they give it to you."
