"I don't want to go in, I don't need a babysitter, Mom! I'm ten for goodness sake!" Jacob exclaimed. Him and his mother, Vivian White, were sitting in their car at the curb in front of the house.
"You have to go in dear, I expect you to be on your best behaviour tonight", She said, applying another layer of her favorite ruby red lipstick, "I've got a date tonight, how do i look?" Vivian turned to her son, making a funny face. " You look very pretty, mom" Jacob laughed lightly.
Vivian smiled, she adored her son. "Okay time to go in. I have to go". Her husband Matthew died when Jacob was only two, from brain cancer.
Jacob sighed and looked up at the house then over to his mother with his best puppy eyes. She laughed, "that doesn't work on me anymore. Now get out of the car." Jacob crawled out of the car, grumbling as he went.
Jacob made his way, very slowly, up to the porch of the old house. He looked back at his mother with pleading eyes. She looked right back and waved her hand at him to keep going. Jacob turned back to the door, grabbing the copper knocker in the middle of the door. Taking a deep breath, knocking three times and taking a step back, he waited.
A few seconds later, Mr. Adams opens the door. Mr, Adams still, has very good posture, white buzzcut, blue eyes and an unreadable face.

Mr. Adams POV
I opened the door to find a boy with brown hair and pale green eyes, he looked to be about 10 years old.
"Yes?" I asked the boy, staring him down.
He replied with a furrowed brow; "You're supposed to be babysitting me...? Till 22:00...?"
"Oh. Okay. Well. Don't just stand there boy, you're letting the bugs in." I said stepping to the side, letting him pass.
I close the door behind him and turn to look at the boy, he would make a good soldier, I thought to myself. I walked into the living room and sat down in my old leather chair across from the door. on one wall, a fireplace and t.v. Across from that wall was another chair and a small loveseat.
I look up from my cross word and light a cigarette and offer it to the boy. He shakes his head no. I shrug, his loss. I watch him slowly cross the room to the chair across from me. As he sits down, I can see out of the corner of eye that he seems very uncomfortable, awkward.

I was almost done my crossword when I looked over at the boy, he was in the exact same position as an hour ago. as I set my newspaper down, I ask the boy, "So whaddo ya wanna do?".
He looks surprised that I said something, let alone take his thoughts into consideration.
"Um.... Can you tell me a story?"
