I played with my dress as we seemed to move through the night in Steven's limo. He placed his hand on my knee.

"Relax, it's a small gathering." He sat back. "Tell me about yourself." He said lighting a cigar and puffing the smoke in my direction.

"What do you want to know?"

"Well I'll get to the point, can I be your lawyer?"

"I actually already have a lawyer."

"Not as good as me, I have a perfect track sheet."

"Almost perfect." I corrected.

He laughed and then his face went stiff. He reached over and held my face between his fingers. He squeezed my jaw tightly.

"I like you, I would hate to have to mess up that pretty little face. That scum maybe off the hook, but I promise he'll have his." He loosened his fingers and sat back.

I sat back, speachless.

"Be on your best behavior. I'm not completely against getting a woman in her place." He blew the smoke back in my face and I coughed. He smiled and laughed.

The car stopped and a man came to my side to open the door. I got out and Steven was close behind me. He grabbed my waist and pushed me towards the mansion that looked beautiful in the night.

A large streaming fountain and all the outside lit.

"Steven." A large balding man walked over and they hugged.

"Dad, I would like you to meet my beautiful date. This is Megan."

"Megan, she is most definetely beautiful." His father hugged me and I smelled a thick cloud of drugs. I coughed.

His father and him laughed, "The cologne gets the best of them." He walked off and the rest of the night was Steven showing me off like a new car. People began to leave and I was invited to stay with Steven and his family and a few other guest for dinner.

"Steven I hear your perfect record has been...challenged." Steven's brother commented.

Steven laughed, "I guess you could say that, but what's one man to a whole....row of people."

"I guess you could say that. I guess you could also say that one man means a lot."

"Eating your lamb before I shove it..."

"Steven!" His mother cut him off. "That is no way to act in front of your lady-friend." She smiled my way.

"She knows me best, she was on the trial."

"Was she?" His father asked. "How do you think he preformed young lady."

Steven squeezed my leg tightly. I could feel all the blood stopping.

"I think he preformed well, I just don't believe the evidence is there."

His hand loosened.

"I think that's the only reason my son wouldn't win." Steven's father laughed and I forced a smile.

The rest of the night was mostly spent talking about the case and then we climbed into Steven's limo to go home.

"I think your attitude was okay."

"I did everything you wanted me to."

"Shut-up. I want to treat you right, but I want to make you learn so bad."

My words caught in my throat.

He sat back and pulled two things out of his pocket. A baggy and a peice of paper.

"What are you doing?"

"It's how you stay ahead of the game baby." He laughed and lit it taking a big puff.

The limo stopped at my house and I tried to step out, but Steven grabbed my arm.

"I like you Megan, I've claimed you. You are mine."

He let me go and I couldn't get to the safety of my mom's house fast enough. Who was this man?
