Tris.

I flop down on my bed crying and text my best friend Christina.

"Code RED."

It's understood between us that if we recive that text from the other person, that we need them. need them right away. Im just wiping away my tears 5 minutes later when Chris comes running into my room, looking slightly out of breath.

"Al," I say when she asks what happened.

Al is my boyfriend. Correction- was my boyfriend. We had been going out for about a year. Our relationship started a week after I joined their group of friends last fall.

I moved here from California and Christina was the first person I met here in Chicago. She introduced me to all her friends: Marlene, Uriah, Zeke, Shauna, Four, and of course Al.He was my first boyfriend. I guess that explains why I fell for him. I fell for him hard, and fast. Looking at it now, it was probably also because he is a lot like the person I used to be. Kind of shy, very quite, and consierate to everyone he meets. I reinvented myself when I moved to Chicago, but I think being with Al was comforting because it reminded me of where I started.

But that's not who i am anymore, and it's definitely not who he is. I didn't even notice the changes in his personality. That's why it stung like a slap in the face when I caught him sleeping with another girl, named Molly.

I explain what he did to Christina, and she looks totally shocked.

"Are you sure? Not that I don't believe you just ... wow." She said when I finished. I understand her confusion. Like I said, we all saw Al as a guy who wouldn't hurt a fly.

I nod, my sadness turning into anger. " I almost didn't believe it and saw it with my own eyes." Then i mutter, "That's one image I'll never get out of my head."

"Well, I've got the solution." She tells me. "Make him regret it, of course. Im gonna get you all dolled up for the party."

I smile when I remember the party tonight. This girl at our school,Lauren, throws a beach party practically every weekend, and me and my friends have a deal made with her. The girls and I have a band, and Lauren's parents are loaded. So everytime she has a party, we preform and she pays us for it. Because of her parties, we've actually become pretty popular. That's one example of how I've changed since moving to Chicago. I never would've had the courage to preform in front of a crowd.

I spread my arms wide, "Do your worst."

Christina grinned. uh oh.

I take one last glance in the mirror to check my makeup, all of my makeup, before jumping in my car and heading to the beach. I silently thank Christina for my hair, and outfit. Im wearing a black dress that ends above my knee with silver detailing on it. The front was a scoop neck and actually managed to make me look like i had a chest-a virtually impossible task. I paired the dress with sparkly silver stilettos. My hair was curled and pinned back. Finally for my make up I had mascara, eyeliner, light lipstick, and dramatic smokey eye. Oh, Plus concealer on...in certain spots. It might sound like a lot, but I was really happy about how I looked.

When I hop out of my car, I hear Christina fighting with Lauren.

" We cant start yet!"

" If she isn't here in five minutes your going on no matter what." Lauren replied and walked away.

"CHRIS!" I yell to her. she turns around with obvious relief on her face.

" Thank God you're here! So there's a little change of plans. Me and the girls are going to be preforming a song for you tonight." she smiles.

" Actually, that's perfect just tell lauren i'll be preforming solo after you guys." I tell her.
