1o minutes after Tobias left, Me and Caleb stood on our front porch and watched an ambulence take off from our house. The policeman who came to our house said once he was healed they would take care of the rest to make sure he never came by our family again. I had no clue how they expected to do that, since I was pretty sure they couldnt lock him in prison for this. Maybe they could but not for long. As the ambulence was pulling out, our mom pulled in. Time fore the next challenge of the morning. Telling her what happened.She got out of the car looking frantic.

"Tris! Caleb! Are you guys okay? Whats going on?" she yelled while running toward us.

"Yes mom we're fine." Caleb said and glanced at me. "Mostly fine" He added

"We're okay now." I told her.

"what do you mean now.?" She looked scared. "what happened?" We get her to go inside to explain and tell her everything. I tell her how dad acted toward me, and what he did today. Caleb explained what the cops said to me and her. Appearanlty they we go to court ( If my mom agreed- which of course she did) and I would have to testify against him. They would decide if he was guily or innocent, then take whatever measures they seemed fit. Caleb assured me he would be found guilty. I had no doubt he would, but I wondered what they would do to him afterwards.

"Tris im so so sorry." My mom said to me

"Its not your fault mom. Its his."

" B-But im your mother. I knew it happened when you were young he hit you a few times, but I thought it ended. He told me it ended.." She started getting choked up "Im your mother Im supposed to protect you, and I didnt even know this was going on." I go over to her and hug her.

"Mom, I-" Im cut off by my christina bursting throught the front door followed by Marlene and shuana.

"Happy Birthday Tris!!" Chris screams.I jump up quickly and give them all hugs.Mar and shauna also wish me happy birthday as I give them hugs. Much quieter though and I have a feeling they sense we were having a serious discussion. How could they not? My mom stands up to greet them quickly wiping her tears.

" Hello girls, how nice of you to stop by for tris' birthday. Do you have plans for the day? Bea I was hoping we could.." She trailed off. I could tell she wanted to spend some time together after everything.

"Mrs. Prior Im sorry to steal Tris away but we are in desparate need of shopping.. for tonight." Chris not-so-slyly-winked at my mom. She must have been in on the surprise party.

"Oh, Oh yes! Im sorry girls Caleb and I will be out of your hair in 20 minutes." She smiled at us, then said to Caleb " Come with me darling, I need to talk to you about your plans tonight as well."

I didnt know what was the big deal about Calebs plans that they were so secret, but I decided not to worry.

"So, Tris is everything okay? You guys seemed kinda upset when we came in." Shauna asked, concerened.

"Oh yeah, its nothing." They didnt look convinced so I added, " My mom was just getting all emotional that im turning 17. She can get a little dramatic sometimes." I laugh, fake rolling my eyes.

"Well, I agree. 17 is huge! The rest of us are only turning 16 this year. Well besides Four obviously." She was right I was older than most of them. I was only a sophmore but turning 17. I think my mom waited a year to put me into school or something because of my dad.

"I guess your right." I smiled, I actually really liked my birthday usually, so i might as well try to enjoy it. "So what do you have planned for the day?"
