1 WEEK LATER
COREY
The hunters were no longer than an issue, yes we had killed Derek and Alex but we'd left Karl alive to serve as our go between. When asked why they'd come to town when our vampire clan had never been a threat Karl didn't have a solid answer, other than the fact Derek and Alex loved killing vampires and didn't set apart the good ones from the bad.
We'd made the hunters associated with Derek and Alex know that their deaths including Zack's and George's were necessary for providing a safe environment for us vampires. And when we bought up the fact they'd broken the hunter code by harming and killing innocent humans let's just say the hunters didn't want that stain on their reputation so promised us that unless any of us broke the law they'd leave us alone to go on with our lives.
Today was the day of Fae's funeral and to say I wasn't the best person to be around this past week would have been an understatement. No one questioned when I snapped or got mad, the only person I let in was Rosie who'd helped me plan the funeral. No one wanted to bury anyone, but here we were finally putting Fae to rest so that she could go to a better place.
Using all our vampire mind tricks we'd managed to get Fae a plot next to her parents and brothers graves despite the cemetery originally telling us it wasn't possible in such a short space of time. We'd also mind controlled them into doing everything for us then leaving us alone so we could have a small ceremony without any distractions from the outside world.
"I don't know if I can do this Corey."
I glance down to see Rosie had snuck her hand into mine as we stood in front of Fae's grave where the coffin was waiting to be lowered into the ground. I squeeze her hand back and smile down at her.
"Take a deep breath Rosie and you'll breeze through this."
Rosie nods before going back to being silent by my side. Shawn takes the lead and steps forwards straightening his black tie.
"This is the second time we've had to bury someone close to our hearts and it doesn't get easier to cope with the heartache and pain. Although we didn't know Fae as well as Cory and Rosie it's safe to say that in the short space of time we all got to know her that she bought a light back into our lives and to some degree made us feel human again. She also introduced me to Rosie and I'll be forever grateful to her for that, I miss you Fae and hope you have a good time on the other side."
That was actually a beautiful speech Shawn gave and he wasn't Fae's biggest fan in the beginning. He steps back and Rosie removes her hand from mine to hold Shawn's, they really were in love with each other kind of like how Fae and I were. They didn't show their love around me, but I'd have to get use to Rosie being around the house more often now.
Each guy steps forwards and makes a speech. I zone out, they were all touching but no words would bring Fae back from the dead. One thing we'd all agreed on was that Rosie and I would be left to do our speeches alone because they were more personal.
Once it was just Rosie and I stood in front of Fae's coffin I take a deep breath and step forwards.
"I never thought the day would come that I had to bury the love and light of my life. Then again I never thought I'd find someone who could love someone like me flaws and all, but that night in the club I was drawn to you like a moth to the flame and we shared some special times that I will always remember. You'll always live on in my memories and I'll never forget you Fae. I love you so god damn much."
I wipe a stray tear away and stand back alongside Rosie who was sniffling and trying to keep herself from crying anymore. She steps forwards and pulls out a piece of paper with her speech on.
"Fae, we've been friends since that first day in kindergarten when you let me help you build that sandcastle because none of the other kids wanted to play with me because I was weird. You were also weird so we bonded and became best friends for life. You've seen me at my best and at my worse and vice versa, you also helped me realise my dreams and I'll never forget all you did for me. You were taken from this planet far too soon and I'll never let your memory die. You introduced me to Shawn and I'll be forever in your debt and one day we'll reunite on the other side."
"That was a nice speech Rosie, I bet Fae's watching down with a smile."
Rosie bows her head and walks away from the grave in the direction the others had walked. I hit the lever and the coffin is slowly lowered into the ground. Today was a sad day indeed, now I needed a drink or three to get over the grief slowly eating away at me.
