FAE
I'd killed people today, first Ellie, then Zack and now George. But Alex, Derek and Karl were still breathing.
"Deep breaths Fae in and out."
Corey rubs my back and my anxiety mixed with adrenaline starts to ever so slowly calm me down.
"I killed Ellie Corey I snapped her neck. I then stabbed Zack and pushed him over the railings. And lastly, I stabbed George in the neck. I think I may have a thing for necks."
He chuckles, "you did what you needed to do to survive Fae."
Corey holds me up as us including Sid and Rosie walk over to the others. The guys were still cuffed together so obviously, the keys Derek had must be the ones to unlock the warehouse doors. Joey and Chris were standing over Karl while Shawn, Craig, Jim and Mick stand over Derek and Alex.
"Dude give her your blood or something, no offence Fae but you don't have long left and you smell of death."
I roll my eyes at Jim, "yeesh don't you know how to flatter a girl Jim."
COREY
Jim was right, giving Fae my blood should have been the first thing I did. Come on even Shawn had given Rosie some of his blood.
"Here you go Fae, one bloody wrist."
I bite down on my wrist until it bleeds and offer it up to Fae who smiles. However the moment is shattered when to our left a struggle takes place, Derek somehow breaks free, and just as Fae takes my bloody wrist and starts to drink a gunshot echoes through the warehouse.
Fae's smile fades as she gasps and falls forwards into my arms, my eyes go to the growing red patch on her chest. Derek had gotten a gun off Joey and shot Fae at point blank range, so the bullet entered her back and came out of her chest before embedding itself into my chest. I hiss knowing it was a wooden bullet and also drop to my knees still holding Fae.
"She killed my girlfriend so I kill yours Corey."
I hear shouting all around me and even crying, but all I could do was focus on my fiancée who was cold to the touch and unmoving. Tears prick my eyes as I try to shake her awake, we hadn't long lost Paul and now the love of my life was dead in my arms.
"Fae baby please wake up."
Fae continues to lie lifeless in my arms.
"She's gone, Corey. We need to get the bullet out of you before we lose you as well."
I struggle against Jim and Mick. I wanted to die if it meant being reunited with Fae on the other side. They manage to get me away from Fae. Sid takes my place his eyes watering at the loss, he'd saved Fae once and he couldn't save her a second time. Shawn looked stunned and was holding a distraught Rosie who in the space of less than an hour had lost two of her childhood friends. Joey, Chris and Craig keep the hunters back, Chris punching a smug Derek.
The effects of the wooden bullet don't take too long to take hold on my body. Even though I didn't need to breathe because vampires didn't need air in our lungs to live I feel my throat close up. I cough up blood, not a good sign I was going to last much longer.
"Dammit, Corey don't you dare die on us as well."
Mick shakes my shoulder just as I close my eyes to take away some of the pain sweeping across my body.
~Night~
Life comes crashing back into me jolting me upright. I look around to find myself back in my room, a few blood bags had been left on the bedside table to quench my thirst. I rip into them feeling parched, just how long had I been out? Throwing the empty bags in the trash I get off the bed. Then memories come flooding back, the space next to me was empty because Fae had died in my arms back in the warehouse.
The bedroom door opens and in shuffles the last person I expected to see.
"Rosie, what are you doing here?"
Rosie sniffles her eyes red and puffy, "Shawn thought this place would be safer for me. I'm so sorry Corey, I really miss Fae."
I sigh and open my arms; I wasn't the only one close to Fae. Rosie walks into my arms, we both needed each other right now to get through this difficult time in our lives.
"She's really gone isn't she Rosie? No chance my blood took hold."
Rosie shakes her head, "Jim said even if your blood had taken hold her injuries were severe. She's gone, Corey."
I hold Rosie tighter, why hadn't I given Fae my blood the second she got off of George? But Jim said her injuries were severe. Maybe it was Jim's way of making me feel less guilty for losing the love of my life. She'd made me promise that if we both went into that warehouse we'd both come out alive. Now instead of planning our wedding, I had to plan her funeral.
"Where's her body?"
Rosie stiffens in my arms, "She's still in the house, I cleaned her up so she looked like her old self instead of being covered head to toe in not just her blood but everyone else's."
I nod, "that must have been tough for you Rosie. Do you want to help me plan her funeral? She deserves a nice send-off, maybe a private affair."
"I think she'd like that very much Corey, maybe we could bury her near her family."
I chew my lip, a whole family was now gone. As a vampire, I'd lived many lives, seen many loved ones grow old and die naturally. Death was a part of any immortals life, now I needed to add another death to the long list of loved ones, but unlike moving on from the others I'd never forget Fae as long as I lived.
