1 WEEK LATER
FAE
I didn't attend Corey's funeral, the Police and rescuers only found his jacket and blood on the rocks but no body was found assuming he'd gone over the waterfall. I refused to bury an empty casket. All I had left of Corey was his mobile which after ten attempts I managed to unlock.
What I also found odd was that Slipknot hadn't done a press conference announcing Corey's death and people were keeping quiet trying to act like it didn't happen. Also, none of his band members had been in touch or tried to contact me to see how I was coping like they didn't care about me in the first place.
On Corey's phone, I found the address to his apartment as well as the band house which I'd never been allowed to because it was an all guy zone. Calling a taxi, I was going to check them both out for any clues as to why Corey would commit suicide out of the blue.
~Corey's Apartment~
I hadn't been here often since Corey said he lived more in the band house but would use the apartment as an escape. It was empty and lifeless like it hadn't been lived in long before Corey's 'death'. And no matter which drawer or cupboard I looked in I couldn't find anything.
Just as I was about to call it quits after checking the bedroom, I stomp my foot on the wooden floor and am shocked when under the rug at the end of the bed one of the floor panels had come loose.
Throwing back the rug I fall onto my hands and knees and rip up the panel. Putting my hand in the hole my fingers brush over a metal lock box which I pull out. There were things inside but the key was nowhere to be found. Putting the box in my bag to try and open later I decide to head over to the band house.
~Band House~
Corey said they lived in a modest house but this place looked more like a mansion, then I remembered they were in a pretty famous band so had the money. There were no cars in the drive and the front door was unlocked like someone had left in a rush.
The mansion looked like it had been turned upside down like someone had ransacked it looking for something. The guys wouldn't leave it like this. Each room I looked in was void of life like each member had packed up all their belongings and left with no intention of returning in the future.
In Corey's room I find a smashed photo frame on the floor, the picture inside was the same one I had on my bedside table. Corey loved this picture.
This whole place was kind of creepy when empty, whoever ransacked it could come back at any minute. As I stand up my phone vibrates with a new message off Rosie.
Rosie: You can't stay cooped up forever Fae, meet Ellie and me at our favourite spot in thirty minutes x
Out of my two friends, Rosie was the most concerned about me after Corey's 'death'. Ellie, on the other hand, had been distant, especially when she started dating my neighbour Derek. Oh, and she'd also set up Rosie with Alex.
Ellie was convinced Corey had brainwashed me into falling in love with him so fast, I called Ellie crazy and said she should probably stop taking Supernatural so seriously because it was only a show. I had a feeling Derek had turned her against me and Corey but I didn't know why. But coffee did sound nice right now.
Fae: Coffee sounds good see you soon x
Ringing the taxi service again I wait outside the band house for my ride back into town. And you know that shiver you get down your spine when someone walks over your grave or talks about you behind your back, well that shiver suddenly overcomes me.
The wind picks up and leaves fly around my feet. It also felt like someone or something was watching me. Darting around in all directions I don't spot anyone straight away, but then I swear and jump as to the left of the main gate in some of the wooded area I see a figure blocked by shadows watching me.
"Oi."
My voice is distorted by the wind but the shadow doesn't move towards or away from me. and just as I talk to myself into approaching the figure the taxi comes up the driveway, and as quickly as it started the wind vanishes. My eyes dart to the taxi and then back to the woods, but the shadowy figure was gone as quickly as a ghost.
~Coffee Shop~
Walking into the shop the smell of fresh coffee hits my nose and immediately makes me happy and feel warm inside. Rosie waves me over to where she was sat in one of the window tables.
"I know you're sick of this question Fae, but how are you feeling?"
Rosie gets up and hugs me. I hug her back and sigh before sitting down opposite her.
"I'm numb I'm not going to lie. My heart feels empty and all I want to do is wrap myself in blankets and sleep forever blocking out the world."
Rosie nods along and listens like a good friend should. After I finish babbling Rosie taps her nails on the table.
"Well good on you for getting out of the apartment Fae. I'm proud of you and this first step."
I chew my lip, there was something else I needed to get off my chest and I knew Rosie would keep my secret.
"I still see him you know Rosie. Like, in the corner of my eye and such, little flashes. I'll see him as I turn, but then he's gone again."
"He was your soulmate Fae so it's understandable you think you're still seeing him, but he's gone."
I wanted nothing more than to lean over the table and throttle my best friend. I wasn't crazy and seeing things. Corey was real, no matter what anyone else told me. it had only been a week since his 'death'.
COREY
Walking away from Fae was one of the hardest decisions I'd ever had to make in all my years on earth. Fae was perfect head to toe. I promised to never leave her alone but I did go and leave her alone breaking my promise.
Fae wasn't seeing things, I was still around town looking out for even if it meant occasionally making my presence known to keep my memory alive inside her. Some members in the band called me selfish for leading Fae on but I didn't want to leave her alone in this cruel world especially with the hunters still sniffing around.
"Once the hunters leave Corey you can reveal yourself and tell her everything. But for now, we must continue watching from the shadows and plan our attacks on the hunters."
Shawn pats me on the back before walking off. I continue watching Fae from across the street keeping myself hidden in the forest tree line. I see her mess around with the engagement ring she still wore on her finger, I had to find a way back to my soulmate and fast before both of us went crazy.
Once the hunters were taken care of I'd swoop back in and show her what I really was, Fae had always been quirky and open to the idea of supernatural beings being real so she should accept me. However faking my death wouldn't exactly put me in her good books. Maybe I needed to work on my "oh look I'm not dead' speech.
