"What do we have here, Lisa?" an old woman, around the same age as Mr. Jung asked with a strict tone.

She kept playing with her fingers, stuttering as she wasn't able to let the words out of her mouth. Where was the encourageful Lisa I know? The annoying one? Why did she suddenly shut herself down at the old woman's presence?

"He-He doesn't have a place to stay, for now. But I'm sure he'll help around the clinic." Lisa reassuringly added, her voice almost sounded like she was shuddering in fear.

The old woman took a long close look at me, from head-to-toe. It made me uncomfortable, so I bowed my head as an immediate reaction. "Good evening. I-I could see that this is a clinic, and that there would be no rooms to sleep in. Then." I bowed my head once more, ready to leave before I embarrass myself.

"Wait." as soon as she spoke, Lisa had already grabbed me by the wrist with an anticipating look carved on her face as she waited for the old woman to finish her sentence. "You can sleep here. After all, there is a couch in Lisa's room. Of course, you can endure, right? Seeing as you're only staying temporarily."

Lisa sounded more grateful than I do, bowing first in my place. "Thank you, Thank you so much!" she nudged me by the elbow, making me bow again and tried smiling in the process.

The old woman simply brushed off our thank you's as Lisa opened a door just beside the restroom, leading me to her room. Quite spacious if only the stocked boxes weren't placed inside it.

"Jja-jjang!" Lisa removed the cloth covering the couch, patting her hand on it to see if it was in need of fixation. Seeing as she nodded in approval, I quickly plopped my bag on top of it, using it as my pillow.

"Aww, is baby kookie feeling comfy now?"

I shot up a glare at her. "What did you just call me, kookie?" I rolled my eyes in disgust, folding my arms across my chest as I stared up at the ceiling.

"You'll get used to me. I always give nicknames to everyone I meet so I could remember them much easier." she hid her hands behind her back as she playfully tried doing aegyo (cuteness) in front of me. "Ah, no need to use that for a pillow, I have an extra. Oh, you might also need a blanket." she went to her bed just across the couch, handing me a pillow and a thin blanket.

"Sorry if it's all I could offer you."

i simply shrugged her off as i prepared experimenting a comfortable position to sleep with.

"Kookie, if you need anything-anything at all, just wake me up or tell me, okay?"

Lisa walked to her bed.

While I was fixating in a comfortable position, I brought out a book from my bag and pretended I was reading when in truth, I wanted to thank her more sincerely this time-even by just muttering it out. I cleared my throat before doing so.

"T-Thanks for bringing me here. Thanks for.." I looked over to see her fixing the wrinkled parts of her blanket on her bed.

She looks so familiar and I still have no idea where I had seen her.

She seemed to have noticed my gaze, making me jolt up when she spoke, "Kookie?"

"Nothing!" I quickly pulled the sheets over my head, ignoring her. I could have sworn I heard a bit of her snickering, but I didn't mind and just pretended to sleep. Soon enough, I fell into slumber right then and there.

the next day, I woke up without a single worry popping into my mind. This was a first. I had already forgotten that I had run away from home.

I clenched my jaw, biting onto my nails. Imagining Mom bursting into my school without warning, possibly drag me out, humiliate me (for betraying her) made me swallow, trying to conjure up a plan to escape this predicament.

"Morning, sleeping beauty."

I jumped from the sudden greeting, seeing Lisa skipping toward me, letting her hair bounce up in the air as she did so. Crouching slightly, she stared into my eyes while saying: "Breakfast is ready, Kookie-ya."

"Kookie?" i repeated.

"You have quite the short term memory, huh? I decided to call you Kookie since last night since it's easier."

reluctantly ignoring her made her feel appeased. meanwhile, I made my way up the stairs to buy myself breakfast, but was caught in shock when I saw real food being served on the dining table. I gulped as sweat started running down by the side of my face, already tempted to take them all for myself.

"Ah, he's up, I see. Help yourself, young man." the old woman, whom I thought was the most strict yesterday, now seemed to have a change of heart. Even pouring us a glass of home-made tea. "This ought to help lessen your body aches-if you have any. But if you have none-it'll boost your energy for today."

"Thank you, but I can just go and provide for myself." I bowed at her presence, which seemed to have Lisa gasping, tapping me subtly by my waist.

The atmosphere, all of a sudden, seemed to have gotten cold. I turned to see the old woman sipping the tea she made, gesturing me to come forward. I followed what I was told to, and when I was in a reachable distance, she looked upon me with seriousness.

"This is a limited offer, i tell you, boy. Eat for now. You can look for a job, if you still want to. But eat. You will need the energy."

With that said, I sat in front of the place provided for me. Next to mine was Lisa, already aiming for the best part of the chicken. But the old woman beat her to it, slapping her hand, letting me choose one first.
