Caesar woke up suddenly from a dream that he had that made him sweat. The sunlight peeked behind his curtain as it rose. Shining its light into his room. He began to take deep breaths. As he settled down, he began to frown. Though, he looked at his alarm clock to see that it was time for him to get ready.

Annoyingly, he swung out of bed and began his morning routine.

The morning routine was pretty simple.

Caesar hacked up spit and spat in the sink. Then grabbed his toothbrush and lined it with some Colgate Toothpaste on top.

As he brushed forcefully, some of the bristles had caught against his young braces.

"Michael! You ready to go?" His mother called from downstairs.

With toothpaste still in his mouth, he looked at himself in the mirror and sighed. He slowly spit out the foam that had increased in his mouth.

"Ready as I'll ever be." He called down

He grabbed a tiny ziplock bag that was sitting in the counter and inserted his toothbrush and toothpaste. After he rinsed his mouth once more, he headed out the bathroom and turned off the light. When he entered the hallway, he looked over he banister down below to see two men moving the couch outside and others followed them with a tv and some dressers.

"Michael! Let's go honey. We are going to hit traffic!" The mother said urgently as she held some bags and her purse on her arm.

"Why do we have to move to Maryland? It's so boring! Nothing to do!" Caesar exclaimed, raising his arms in the air.

"We need a change of scenery baby. We've been over this. Let's go." His mother told.

"But Brooklynn is my home! Our home mom! Are we just gonna let people impact us so much that they influence are lives negatively?!" Caesar questioned. Obviously upset at this situation.

"Your momma got a promotion baby. Can you be proud? We are going to have such a better life. I know it." His mother sighed, her brown face easing away tension.

Caesar sighed as he slight put attitude into his steps as he walked down. As  he reached his mother he avoided her eyes.

"Let me get a smile." His mother playfully whined.

Caesar didn't smile, only cross his arms

"...Fine. I'll be waiting in the car." She said, and turned her heel to walk out the door. Leaving Caesar alone in an empty house. Slowly he turned in a full circle. Examining the empty walls where pictures of family and diplomas were hung. And across the way to the empty family room where he and his friends would play video games til midnight before his mother made all the go home.

He sighed.

"It's just not fair...why can't the little guy get a win for once?"

.

"Because you simply aren't good."

" I am good!" Riley spat

"Try telling that to the score." Huey rebutted pointing at the television.

"Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah!!" Jazmine taunted squinting her eyes and sticking out her pink tongue.

"Shut up you fake ass Mariah Carey!!" Riley whined. Throwing the PlayStation controller on the carpet.

"That's all you got fo her? Fake ass Mariah Carey?" Cindy chuckled, as she leaned back in Granddads old recliner.

"Shit you got somethin better? Since you think yous a better joker than me?" Riley smirked, making Cindy blush. Though she kept her composure and cleared her throat. "Idk say somethin bout her titties. That always makes a girl self-conscious." Cindy smiled,p in laughter as she drank some of her coca-cola.

Instantly Jazmine got red and she covered her chest.

Huey rolled his eyes and got up from the couch.

Jazmine saw him leave. "Where ya goin?"

"Outside. And no you cannot come." He told ahead of time, but she was already beside him by the time he finished. He looked down to her big puppy eyes and gritted, attempting to get locked in her eyes.

They walked outside and Huey sat leaned against one of the columns of the front porch. His one shoulder leaning on it, while the other slumped to show calm...but slight irritation.

Jazmine copied him on the column beside him.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"Nothing."

Jazmine knew that wasn't the case, but she stayed silent anyway. Quietly, they could hear birds chirp in the sky as the light blue sky began to show hints of pink and yellow color. Signifying a sunset.

"How are you feeling?" She asked

"You are not a therapist."

"I know."

"So why are you asking about my feelings? It doesn't concern you."

"It concerns me because I'm your friend." Jazmine finally said, putting Huey at a silence as he faced out to the sky. His hands in his pockets.

"We are friends aren't we?" Jazmine asked, raising her eyebrow.

Huey didn't answer, only shrugged. Which seemed like enough for Jazmine because of the smile that crept on her face.

A large moving truck had drove past the house to the one next  door.

Huey eyed the truck and the car that followed behind. Jazmine clapped her hands quickly. "Omg! Someone is moving into the house now! How exciting!"

"It's not exciting. What if they are radical feminists? Or politicians?" Huey asked with a bit of worry in his tone.

Jazmine sighed and let off the column, taking Huey's hand.

"Well let's find out!" She smiled, dragging him to the house next door. Huey reluctantly followed with lowered eyelids.

As they reached the house, Huey spotted a boy with dreadlocks in the passenger seat in the Honda that had followed the moving truck. They locked eyes, but Huey looked away once Jazmine had approached the woman who just got out of her car.

"Hello!" Jazmine greeted as she finally let go of Huey's sweaty Palm.

"Oh! Hi there! The woman smiled as she got around the car to approach the two teens.

"I'm Jazmine DuBois! I live right across the street." She smiled, reaching for the woman's hand.

"Angela Caesar, it's nice to meet you." The woman smiled. Huey crossed his arms and sighed.

"Huey! Don't be rude, introduce yourself." Jazmine mumbled to him. But Huey looked at the woman's hand.

"I would shake your hand, but I don't know if you come from a foreign country. You may have contracted a virus or unknown bacteria." Huey said, his expression staying the same. Angela opened her mouth and out her hand back down.

"Wow. Uhm okay then. That's fine. But I would like you to meet my son. Michael. He is a bit shy-" she said as she gestured for him to get out the car. Michael reluctantly did, but he had his arms folded and stood next to his mom, which was in front of Huey.

They locked eyes quickly, but looked away. Jazmine smiled and held out her hand. "Hi I'm Jazmine!"

"Michael, introduce yourself...." Angela mumbled. Caesar stared at Jazmine's hand. "No offense, but I don't know where ya hands been. It could've touched a lot of bacteria or viruses you people in Maryland contract. Though I'm pretty sure nothing from this weak town could do anything to harm this Brooklynn immune system."

Jazmine dropped her jaw while Angela gave herself a face pal.pm.

Huey smirked and headed back to his house. "You want to come in?" He asked Michael.

Michael didn't say anything as he walked up to Huey.

"Michael Caesar."

"Huey Freeman."

"A pleasure." They both said at the same time.
