The second the bell rang, Emily had dashed out of the classroom, but after saying a quick 'thank you' to her teacher. She didn't know anyone in the grade who was as obsessed with drama as her so she was confident she could land the role. She ran through the hallways as fast as she could, determined to be there on time (she had to make a good first impression).

She burst through the large auditorium doors and plummeted headfirst into a designer jacket. As she toppled over, she saw Tyra's scowling face glaring down at her

"Watch where you're going, jeez." Tyra grimaced.

"You're... auditioning... too?" Emily asked, panting in between words

"Hunny, everyone knows I'm the best actor in the world, so of course I'm auditioning." Emily sighed. She'd never heard anyone even let out a whisper of Tyra's "amazing talent". Before Emily could have a mini panic attack, she felt someone tackle her from behind,

"What's up, bitch!"

she turned around to see her best friend in the whole wide world

"Mia!" Emily almost yelled, instantly filled with relief "I didn't know you were auditioning."

"Nah, just came to cheer you on. Oh right, surprise!" Mia knew Emily better than she knew herself and she knew for a fact that even though Emily was a great actress, her nerves could get the better of her sometimes. Mia being there watching and supporting would make it a hundred times better "Besides, the only character I'm good enough to play is the dog." She joked.

She probably wouldn't be able to survive without Mia honestly. Now Emily was excited again, knowing Mia would be up in the front seats watching her would make it feel like every time she practised in front of her when they were at each others' houses. Easy Peasy.

Mia started telling Emily about her new crush, but just as she was about to reveal his name, Emily's pocket vibrated. She pulled out her phone.

Emily showed Mia, and she almost laughed too. Emily didn't know why, but it was just funny.

After stressing to Mia for what seemed like hours and getting a thousand hand squeezes and over a hundred "it's gonna be ok"s, a shrill voice interrupted the students.

"Alright everyone, on the stage please, single file." The woman squawked. She was old, around her mid-sixties, with wrinkled skin, bleached hair, pencilled eyebrows, deep burgundy lips and an outfit to die for, including a faux fur coat, nine-inch pumps, a dress way too short for her age and a shit ton of jewellery. "I'm Mrs Eitole, pronounced 'E-twal', and I will be directing and casting this year's play, The Wizard of Oz." everyone gathered onto the makeshift stage placed at the opposite end of the large room.

She continued on and on about her expectations and stuff, but for once, even Emily wasn't paying attention. She was desperate for the role and was thinking of all the ways possible that she could deliver the best audition, because inevitably, Tyra would attempt to sweet-talk her way to victory or threaten to get them fired. Both of these methods she had used before and so far they had a one hundred per cent success rate.

In the end, she just decided that she would do her best just like she had practised a million times in the mirror and with Mia, winning smile and all. Unlike Tyra, she had talent, and talent is what Mrs Eitole was looking for, not money (hopefully).

When Mrs Etiole finished talking, she grouped the kids up into whom they would like to audition for. She watched the students part ways and make their way around the stage and Emily ended up in a group with Tyra and a few girls that Emily didn't know. The girls started up a conversation, but neither Emily nor Tyra joined in, they both stood silently with Tyra glaring at Emily with her heart's content, waiting for Mrs Etiole to come by and audition them.
