Just A Step Away

Chapter 6

Katherine's POV

I was lying on my bed, wondering about Darwin and our meeting which will be going to happen the next day. It had been 5 years since we saw each other. I was really excited to see him but moreover, I was nervous.

Would he care for me like he used to do before? Would he show me his affection? But the most important question was, if he still loved me?

That question fastened my heartbeat. I waited for him for 5 years and if he would say me that saying me 'i love you' was his mistake, then my heart would surely break.

With those thoughts in my mind, I lied down on bed and tried to sleep.

"Kathie come on hurry up or we'll be late." My dad shouted from downstairs.

"Coming dad! just give me 5 more minutes." I shouted back on which I got some colorful words from him about my laziness.

I was beyond nervous to meet him. But moreover, I was really excited to see him after 5 years. I wanted to look perfect for him and for that I deserved some extra minutes to get ready, right? But who would explain that to dad. He decided that we should go to airport to receive Mitchell's family because we were going to meet our best friends after 5 years. I did a light makeup to give myself a natural look and wore black jeans with blue halter top. I tied my hair in high ponytail. After looking at myself one last time I smiled with satisfaction and made my way to porch, where everyone was waiting for me.

"What took you so long?" Walter said in annoyance.

"I am a girl Walter; it's my right to take my time as long as I want." He rolled his eyes but said nothing.

We took two separate cars, mom dad and Walter sat in dad's car and I was driving my own car.

As soon as we reached our destination, we started looking for them. 15 minutes passed but they were nowhere. Suddenly my dad shouted his best friend's name and I immediately looked where he was pointing. Soon I found Uncle Peter and aunt Marie but my eyes were looking for him. My heart was beating loudly and sweat formed on my forehead. Gosh! I was so nervous. He is Darwin, my Darwin, my best friend. I was busy in building my confidence when my eyes landed on a familiar person. I froze on my spot when our eyes met. Same intense pair of eyes, straight nose but now he had beard too and his hair was all gelled up, making him look even more hotter. He was same but too different at the same time. A young cute boy was now changed in to a masculine and a decent guy. My heart was thumping loudly and it was getting difficult to breath with every other second. My stomach was doing funny disturbances and my throat was dried like I drank water ages ago. What the hell was happening to me. I had never felt that way. He was wearing white shirt with blue denim jacket and pants. In short, he was looking breathtaking. I immediately became self-conscious and started patting my clothes and brushed my hair with my hands.

He didn't break our eye contact for a second while walking towards us. My parents were busy in meeting Mitchell's. Darwin stopped just a few feet away from me and looked at me with a emotionless face. I couldn't wait more so I ran towards him and jumped in his arm. He took me in his arms and holds my waist tightly. My body shivered in delight when his body touched mine. It was an electrifying tingle which I was feeling throughout my body. I had never felt something like that before, even with him when we were young. This feeling was alien to me but it was giving me pleasure. His touch was giving me pleasure. I was inhaling his scent whereas he was doing the same. His face was in the crook of my neck and his harsh breathing was fanning against my skin, giving me goose bumps.

"I missed you so Damn much." I whispered in his ear.

"You don't have an idea how much I miss you sunshine." My heart filled with happiness after I heard his voice and moreover the word 'sunshine' from him.
