Chapter 22

Katherine's POV:

"Darwin put me down." I chuckled and hit him playfully on his back.

"Darwin! Pretty please." I pouted even after knowing the fact that he can't even see my face.

"As you wish Sunshine." he smirked and opened his arms without a warning. And ladies and gentleman! My butt landed straight on the ground with a thud.

"Darwin. What the hell?" I screamed and Darwin laughed before running away.

"Darwin? Are you drunk?" I laughed at his childishness but stood up to chase him anyway.

"You can't reach me." he said from God knows where. I could hear him but I couldn't see him. Where did he go in a blink.

We were in a parking lot of an Italian restaurant where we decided to have our dinner. But now Darwin had some other plans maybe.

"Darwin? Come out already. I'm starving." I emotionally blackmailed him.

Suddenly the memory from our childhood came rushing down to me. The time when we used to play hide and seek and Darwin always found a way to me through my scent.

Well here you go babe. Now I'll use your way for you. I smiled wickedly and used my all senses, especially smelling sense to find him.

I sniffed the air but smelled nothing. I was feeling like a dog smelling the scent of his owner or a criminal. But anyway, I didn't mind being it as long as it get me to Darwin.

Suddenly a familiar scent entered my nostrils and I started looking here and there for him. I walked near the car where the scent of him became stronger and there I found his reflection at the back of the car.

Here I come Darwin.

I walked slowly and cautiously towards him.

"Caught ya." I jumped and grabbed his shoulders.

"Oh finally. I thought you'll take one century to find me." he said and poked a finger on my stomach.

"Shut up." I laughed and involuntary twitched.

"Make me." he smirked and winked at me.

What has gotten into him. From when he became so flirty and childish? Well, I liked every bit of it. I hoped he remained like this for forever.

"Someone seems high today." I smirked while entering the restaurant.

He said nothing but shrugged.

"So, what urgent work came in the morning that you left me alone for breakfast?" I wanted to sound playful but my statement came out depressed. I don't know why but somewhere in the corner of my heart, I felt hurt that he left me at that time. I mean I became relaxed after finding out that nothing happened to me but you know, I still needed him in the morning.

But well, after getting Rose's text, I partially forgot about last night's incident. But the thought about last night gave me shivers.

"Did you want me to stay?" Darwin's question brought me out of my thoughts. What? Is he mad or what. Of course I wanted him by my side 24/7. I set a glance on his face, he looked somewhat sad? Or the emotion which I have seen many times but unable to put a finger on that feeling of his.

"What kind of a question is this Darwin. Of course I wanted you to stay. And I always want you to be with me. Like old times?" I smiled and put a hand on his'.

He immediately pulled back his hand, away from my touch and smiled softly.

"Oh." he said and digged into his plate while munching his food.
