Did you ever wonder why we actually fast in Ramadan? Why God asks us to fast? In this chapter I'm going to hopefully give you an understanding of why.

The more obvious reason is to bring us closer to Allah. Allah has made this time for muslims so we can get closer to him. Not a day nor a week, a month! God truly loves us.

Another reason is to feel how the unfortunate feel. If we feel how they feel we'd be more likely to donate and give charity. Allah loves when we give charity and you can see how this reason corresponds with reason #1 up there.

We also fast to attain Taqwa. Taqwa is basically guarding yourself from evil. Ramadan is a month in which we have to purify our bodies from all types of evil.

Fasting is also a way in which Allah wants us to learn self control. No eating, drinking, smoking, etc. We have to learn to refrain from stuff even if it's not haram.

Eating obviously isn't haram but eating too much is disliked because in the end you get a stomach ache and nausea. Instead of eating all that food you could've shared it with the poor.

Why do some people not have to fast? Like the sick, traveling, pregnant, breastfeeding and children. They don't have to fast because it's not compulsory on them. Fasting is compulsory on every healthy Muslim that has reached puberty.

Allah wants us to fast but if we aren't able to do so he's not going to make us. One of my favorite quotes is, "Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear"
