Chapter 14: If I Fell

24 April 1965

Within the past months the lads have been filming their newest movie 'Help!' It's a pretty interesting movie, I'll tell ya. The lads are being followed by two scientists and the high priests of the Goddess of Kaili because they want this ring that's stuck on Ritchie's finger. Honestly I don't completely get it. They've been filming at so many locations for this. In February they were in the Bahamas, in March they were in Austria, and then at the beginning of April they were at Twickenham Studio. This movie is really different compared to A Hard Day's Night, but the lads seem to be enjoying it so far.

Other than filming the second biggest thing within the Beatle-world would be my pregnancy. Brian had Ritchie and I make the announcement back in the beginning of March. The public has been taking it pretty well surprisingly. Only a few times I've appeared within the newspaper about my pregnancy. For example, the one was a picture of me leaving the Lennon household, I had on a dress that showed off my stomach a bit. That was labeled 'Beatle wife Pam Starkey showing off her new baby bump.' Another was labeled 'How does Paul really feel about his sister's marriage and pregnancy with Ringo?' with a picture of Ritchie and I leaving Twickenham Studio and Paul walking behind us. Some of the articles that have appeared are absolute crap, but others aren't too bad.

Oh, speaking of my pregnancy I forgot to mention at the moment I'm about five months pregnant. Both Ritchie and I have been doing a lot to start preparing for the baby. He's been trying to do everything; go to filming, try to find us a new house to move into, get things ready for the baby, and keep a close eye on me. Honestly he hardly let's me leave his sight or go anywhere without telling him first. Also he's been reading books on how to prepare for your first child, it's the cutest thing to see.

Due to the constant filming he and I also haven't been able to go find out the gender of the baby. Finally Brian gave them a few days off and today we decided to go find out. Today's finally the day. And let me tell you Ritchie's very anxious to find out.

"Come on, Pam. We have to get going, we're gonna be late."

I emerged from our bedroom, my purse in one hand and my other hand placed lightly on my stomach. "Calm down, will ya? We'll make it there in plenty of time."

He gave me a small smiled and walked towards me, putting his hand on my bump. "I'm sorry, I'm just excited to find out. But I have a good feeling that it's a girl."

I couldn't help but smile. I loved how confident he was about us having a little girl. "You're more excited than I am, and I'm the one carrying the baby."

"And your doing a fab job with carrying our little one. Anyway, come on, we should get going."

With that we got into the car and headed over to the doctor's office. Due to Ritchie being who he is we had to schedule this appointment during the lunch hour and the office so we could avoid a little less public attention. He and I entered the office and walked up to the front desk.

"Mr. and Mrs. Starkey, it's great to see you. Come on back and we'll get you squared away for your appointment."

One of the assistants then took us into the back and into one of the rooms. "The doctor will be in here within just a few minutes."

Once she left Ritchie helped me up onto the examination table. "You ready to finally find out?"

I nodded, rubbing my stomach lightly. "Very ready."

Right after that my doctor, Doctor Carter, walked in. "Afternoon Pam and hello Mr. Starkey."

Ringo and Doctor Carter shook hands. "Call me Ringo, please."
