Ok, I know most of this is canon but I added some of my own detail. Enjoy!
James' full name was James Fleamont Potter, after his father Fleamont Henry Potter. Fleamont Potter was best know for his creation of Sleekeazy's Hair Potion ( 'two drops tames even the most bothersome barnet' ). He retired before James was born. James mother Euphemia Potter was a party planner. She planner both magical and muggle charity banquets. She continued to work until both she and her husband became ill due to dragon pox. After being sick with the magical illness for many months they passed peacefully within hours of each other.
They both loved long enough to see James and Lily married. They died shortly after Lily and James announced that Lily was pregnant with baby Harry.
