Chapter 22

Lana

I carried Damon in my arms as I walked into the room he would be staying in. I walked closer to the bed and carefully laid Damon down. I could see his red nose as I wiped away his tears.

"You're not going to leave me are you? I'll be alone" He asks

I could feel my throat tighten as I felt like sobbing at his side. I sat down on the chair swallowing my cry and looked at Damon.

"You will never be alone Damon, you have me you will always have me. I swear I'll never leave you again. Once everything is safe, we will be together, we will be happy" I tell him

He sadly smiles as he reaches over to grab my hand. "I miss my daddy" he says tears wielding in his eyes again

"I'm so sorry" I say kneeling beside the bed so I could be near him "your daddy he loved you so much you know that right?" He looks at me and nods "he wanted to keep you safe and he did he kept you safe but things didn't go as he had planned but he did try his best Damon, I want you to know that your daddy will always be here in your heart and as long as you live he will be a part of you" I say placing my hand over his small chest

"You're my mommy? My real mommy?" he asks smiling just a little

I smile just as he did and nod my head yes. "We are family. And family sticks together. I will always keep you safe" I say kissing his forehead as he closes his eyes

It took a while but soon enough he was fast asleep. I sat on the chair that was beside the bed Damon laid on. Soon the doors opened and Bette walked in.

"He'll be safe here. Leo and I will make sure of that" she says

"As soon as AliPhil is done with, I'll come back for him." I say "I have a reason now to move my plans up the sooner the better"

"Why don't you get some sleep Lana. You'll need your energy" she tells me

I inhaled, unable to look at Damon as he slept. "When i first gave him up i never thought id see him again, and now here he is I'm afraid to go to sleep and wake up and realize this was all a dream"

"The world is full of surprising things" she says walking back out "He is going to need you fully aware and well rested"

I stayed sitting on the chair staring at Damon and running my hand through his hair. I was afraid if I let my guard down for just a few moments it would have all been for nothing. All the pain and training I had gone through would not have mattered if I couldn't keep Damon safe.

When morning came Damon was up really early. After breakfast we all went outside of the small cabin we were hiding in. The trees were tall and the leaves were green. I smile as I see Bette and Damon hug. I knew Damon was going to be safer with Bette than he would if he was with me. Especially when I was about to bring AliPhil down.
