Hearing continuous voices, Samara squeezed her eyes to open them aggressively in curiosity. She breathed and slowly got up to stretch her sore legs, remembering how fast she had walked to home last night.
But the voices had slowly turned into wails which made her eyebrows narrowed in strangeness. She actively got off the bed and lifted the skirt of her silk night gown to walk hurriedly towards the window.
Instead of the blazing sun, the sky was covered with waves of dark clouds hanging above as if ready to cry along with the people down there.
Samara's gaze lowered from the sky towards the villagers standing far in the middle of the ground which was surrounded by the houses. The villagers had surrounded a lady who was crying loudly.
Her eyes widened. Samara gulped while guessing what could go wrong at such early morning. She clutched her skirt in fists and jogged downstairs only to see Ida coming out of her brother's room.
Samara rubbed her eyes and ran fingers through her hair. "Ida, at this early morning what are you doing here? What about the noise outside?"
She saw Ida giving her a frightened look. "I was just here to see if he needed anything. But he's sleeping finely. Your mother had sent me actually to wake you up and check him. Come, let's go outside."
She jogged along with Ida who too was in her night gown and had just been wearing a shawl to cover her hair and cleavage. How did she even reached here so far early morning?
"Wait."
She ran inside her mother's room and came out while covering her open hair and bosoms with a dark blue shawl as they seemed so visible under the silk cloth.
"We shall go now," she said. Ida nodded and held her hand while running outside the home.
The cries turned louder while Samara's heart kept shrinking in suspense. She pushed people aside gently and stepped on the ground which was wet due to dew because of the cold weather.
Samara finally reached the last circle of the crowd and walked in the front to only widen her eyes in fright. She screamed and immediately covered her eyes while pushing her face back on Ida's shoulder. She gasped and slowly looked back to see how everyone was looking at her with understanding.
Anyone could scream their limbs out at seeing such horrific view. Anyone could lose their consciousness at seeing such a brutally-ripped dead body.
The stomach was torn with long gashes, the limbs were out, the chunks of meat from the thighs and legs had been removed. The neck of the body was fully torn and Samara could see the bones of shoulder of the person. She let out a whimper and tried to recognise the face.
The body was lying in the pool of blood and the face was totally covered with it. Observing his tall and well-built frame, anyone could say it was a man.
Her gaze wandered on the lady crying while hugging other ladies and in between them, Samara could see her own mother. Her eyes filled while hearing so much wails and seeing such horrified faces. She had never seen such a scenario before, happening in her village.
Their village was a peaceful place that had a lake, dense forest, a wonderful market, and cheerful people living with their families. Even the King used to visit their village a lot since, he liked the sugarcanes from this village and also, hunted whenever he liked.
But such mourning. Such blood.
Samara squeezed her eyes in horror. The village was already mourning for the martyrs and injured warriors. Now, this sudden murder. . .
Samara widened her eyes and immediately turned to Ida. "Do you know how it happened?"
Ida wiped her tears and shook her head. "They say, some wild animal killed him."
