A Love To Tell

Chapter 6: A Picnic

The Snack Pack were planning an awesome picnic. They thought they could invite Poppy, Branch, especially River! They were so excited, they put the blanket on the ground and set the basket full of food aside. As they finished, Poppy and Branch arrived at the same time. Poppy squealed and jumped. "I'm so excited! River is joining us, right?!".

"Of course!" Biggie said as Poppy gave an excited expression. River was watching from Troll Tree in the branches and leaves. The ladybug squeaked again as River rolled her eyes. "Cmon, that was a one time thing. I only messed up once, I won't mess up this time.".

She said and flew off the branch and landed in front of them. "Hey guys! Sorry, I just have a lot of things in my mind...".

"It's alright. Let's sit!" Poppy said as they sat in the giant blanket in a circle. Branch and Poppy sat beside each other, of course. River say across and couldn't help but stare at them. But she shook it off. Suddenly, a question was asked by DJ Suki beside her. "So, why are you grey? Branch was grey because of his... loss... I don't mean to be rude, but why are you grey?".

"Yeah, not most people turn grey." Branch said as River shrugged her shoulders. "I don't think I want to talk about it right now...".

"Cmon!" The Snack Pack kept encouraging her. But River rolled her eyes with a smile and saw the ladybug on her shoulder, trying to warn her. River glared at it and brushed it off her shoulder and looked back at the other trolls. "You guys sure? Not a single word?".

Then they all nodded, then River sighed and saw the ladybug on her hand and shook its head. River sighed and looked down at her feet. "Actually... it's quite a long story... You guys know how love feels like, right?".

"Of course!" Poppy said and smiled as she looked at Branch. Branch cocked a brow and looked at Poppy as she shrugged. River chuckled, and said softly. "Of course you guys know, it must feel amazing... me? I-... used to love someone... we used to love each other. Until one day...".

She paused, and tears started to fall on her eyes. The ladybug gave a sympathetic face and patted her hand. River started to silently sob. "He broke my heart, my spirit, my beliefs in happily ever after... just by his scary words...  and after that, he left me... without another word, hug, or kiss on the cheek... and I flew away with my wings. And the next thing I knew, I woke up in the hospital...".

"Deep..." Satin said as River wiped her eyes and chuckled when she saw the ladybug cuddle her fingers. She smiled and whispered. "Don't worry, I'm better off without him and get back to the picnic...I-I'm sorry, I-... just need to have a small walk around the forest...".

She spread her wings and flew to the forest. Branch and Poppy shared a glance, then at the forest. Poppy whispered. "Poor River.".

"Don't worry, I think she'll feel alright, soon. We just need to give her space and time." Branch said as Poppy nodded along with the others. River still was crying, but lightly. The ladybug squeaked as she wiped her eyes, recklessly. "I told you, I will never fall in love again. Not even if he was perfect.".

Then the bug squeaked again, then River sighed as she already headed to Branch's pod to sleep. (A/N: she's staying there for a while, remember?)
