Chapter 13: Uh Oh

The Snack Pack hesitated, but Branch wasn't panicking or hesitating at all. River just faked a smile, trying to pretend she didn't these anything. Then Smidge cleared her throat and stood beside her. "Um... we don't know how to tell you...".

"Oh, it's alright. It's not like I'm part of this." River said sarcastically and rolled her eyes. Branch smelled something fishy, and knew River was acting strange. He raised his brow and crossed his arms. "So, River, where were you?".

"Form the forest. Just having a nice 'walk' around. What do you think I'm doing?" River said and crossed her arms. Then the ladybug from her shoulder shook its head, but River ignored. "And why do you ask?".

"I don't know... but something doesn't feel right..." he said as they both glared at each other. The Snack Pack mouthed an 'uh oh' and slowly backed away. River chuckled at Branch's remark, and she smirked. "Funny, because I thought a blue figure was already something that doesn't feel right.".

Then they glared at each other more, and they both started to feel mad at each other. Luckily, a pink troll saved the drama. "Guys? Why are you glaring at each other?".

"You know what? I am gonna head back to the forest. I won't be sleeping at your pod tonight, so... why don't you invite Poppy?" River said and raised her arms as she flew away. Branch panted, then Poppy blushed at River's words. Then turned to Branch. "Branch, what happened?".

"Something didn't feel right with her. I think she's onto something..." Branch said as Poppy rolled her eyes while smiling, then punched his shoulder. "Branch, she's knew here! You should go and apologize to her!".

"Poppy, she's a troll with wings. Do you think I can trust her?" Branch said as Poppy gave him the look. Branch crossed his arms and rolled his eyes as he sighed. "Fine. But-"

But he was interrupted by Poppy who hugged him. Branch's eyes widened, then he looked down at Poppy. "What's with the hugs?".

"I don't know... I just love hugging you..." Poppy said with a smile and resting her head on his chest. Branch rolled his eyes, but smiled as he patted Poppy's head. As River flew through the forest, she couldn't help but get mad at Branch so much! How did she get to lovey dovey to mad? She didn't know, but one theory went in her head. She underestimated Branch. But the ladybug in her shoulder patted her cheek as she sighed and calmed down. "Sorry. I'm just so mad... it's like, he doesn't know what happened to me! He hasn't faced everything I have been! He doesn't know what it's like to be left alone-!".

Suddenly, she paused and fell to her knees. Then the ladybug crawled up to her hand, then River raised her hand just a slightly bit and whispered. "Why am I doing this? It's happening all over again... I don't think I can do this any more, I mean, if you went on this situation, won't you feel the same?".

Then the ladybug nodded. Then River smiled and gave the ladybug a small hug, while the ladybug hugged her cheek. River chuckled and shrugged her shoulders. "Hey, thanks, for everything. Guess everything is better with a friend. C'mon, let's find a nice place to sleep, I don't want Branch to see us tonight.".

And with that, she flew away. Little did she knew, Branch saw all of this happened right behind her back. And his eyes widened. And for the first time, he hesitated.
